A cat was playing a fiddle during a picnic when a cow did something silly! A dog thought it was very funny and laughed! The dish and spoon from the picnic ran away!
It is a nice short length f0r these grade levels. The students would probably find it silly and funny. The illustrations are nice!
You could use this book during a transition. You could also use it for a basic introduction to rhyming.

Summary: In Hey Diddle Diddle, the classic nursery rhyme is illustrated beautifully by Moira Kemp. The story begins as a picnic between the cat, dog, and moon. As the cat plays his fiddle, the cow jumps over the moon and the little dog laughs.
Review: I enjoyed this version of Hey Diddle Diddle. I liked that each line had its own page and the words were large and easy to read. The illustrations are beautifully done and very detailed so its easy for the pictures to tell the story.
In Class Uses: Read Aloud; To teach rhyming words; sight words

This book is appropriate for children in pre-kindergarten through first grade.
3. Summary:
The classic nursery rhyme is colorfully illustrated with humanized animals and objects. The characters are dressed in fancy, human clothes. They are having a picnic, while each of them perform every action described in the nursery rhyme.
Review:
The large print and rhyming words make the book very appropriate for young readers. The comical illustrations are perfect for keeping children engaged and entertained. The simple vocabulary is ideal for English language learners and also exposes them to an American classic nursery rhyme.
4. 2-3 possible in-class uses:
-have the children try on clothing from the book
-have the children identify the words that rhyme
-have children bring in their own favorite instruments to share with the class
-have children produce their own nursery rhyme
