The Wilds Box Set

Rate this book
Dal survived the plague that nearly wiped out humanity, but when Dax breaks her out of the asylum, will she survive the Wilds? Experience Dal's story as she learns to survive in a new world, unravel the truth of her heritage, powers and discover love.
Four full-length novels. 1,200 pages of reading.

Complete set of The Wilds, books 1-4.

The Wilds (Book One)

I met a Plaguer today, one of the very few who survived the last outbreak of Bloody Death. She said horrible things about me and my companions. We all called her crazy afterward and claimed this was the reason they needed to be locked up. They spread lies that could hurt our fragile world, nearly brought to extinction 150 years ago.

But here’s the catch: she was right about me. I have a niggling fear that she was right about my friends, as well. What if the Plaguers are right about the people in charge? What if they are right about everything?

This book is for all the Plaguers, the truth sayers branded and marked as liars, often hunted and sometimes forgotten. This book is for the girl who was right.

The Hunt (Book Two)

Living in the Wilds isn't any picnic, but I thought I had a handle on things: avoid the beasts and I won't get eaten, avoid the waterways and the pirates won't kill me, and stab every Dark Walker I see.

That was before I found out Tiffy's friends were real and back when I’d never heard of the Skinners. Now my magic is on the fritz, and people are disappearing. Dax doesn't want me to kill any Dark Walkers, and avoiding the beasts is impossible when I live with one. Amidst all this, I've become the most wanted woman around.

The Dead (Book Three)

I'm young to have so many enemies. The Skinners, Dark Walkers, Wood Mist, they all want me for their own reasons. But those were enemies I could fight. Now the disease that changed me forever is back.

It’s reaping death and havoc everywhere it strikes and I’m nearly helpless to stop it except for one chance. There’s a rumor of a cure. But Dax, my ally here in the Wilds, has vengeance on his mind. As I prepare to fight the Bloody Death by any means I can, I might have to leave behind the only man who has ever stood beside me.

The Magic (Book Four)

For as long as I’ve lived, Dark Walkers have been hunting Plaguers, seeking them for their magic. But there’s one Plaguer they want most of all. Me.

Since the fall of civilization, the human race has been barely surviving. Another outbreak of the Bloody Death could be our final straw and there’s only one way to ensure that doesn't happen. I need to kill the leader of the Dark Walkers.

I’m stronger than ever but with more to lose than I ever thought possible. For the first time, I feel like I’ve got a family, a home…Dax.

So here I am; ready to fight. Winner take all.

How exactly do you review 4 books in one review? Good thing I took some notes while listening or else I would have been totally lost. So here are some thoughts that ran through my head while listening, though I have to warn you, I'm ALWAYS in it for the couple so my thoughts are very couple-focused.

The narration
I have so much respect for Angel Clark. She did so many voices for so many different characters and somehow never tripped up and always sounded exactly like she did when she first brought the characters to life. There was Dal, Dax, Bookie, Tiffy, Fudge,... These are at least 5 different voices (main cast, and I didn't even count all the other voices she did) and she was soo good! Maybe there was editing involved but who cares, it was a great listening experience. I'll be honest, I had to get used to her man voices at first because it did sound odd to me. But well, this audio box set was my very first audiobook and I got used to it after a while, so whatever.

Spoilers possible! This is not your typical review because as I said before it contains my (very specific) thoughts. The next section should be read after finishing the series.

Book 1: The Wilds
3.5 Stars
– Dal was so annoyingly "independent", she didn't listen to shit and was so freaking rude and stubborn sometimes I just wanted to slap her silly. But then her determination to rescue her friends was also really admirable.
– I've never ever felt second-hand embarrassment so strongly in my life! That one scene was painful to get through. I was cringing so much, it was horrible.

Book 2: The Hunt
3.5 Stars
– Finally, some sexy stuff happens even though it was just a kiss.
– I didn't really feel Dax's feelings and was confused about whether he was even interested in Dal or not. Other than the jealousy scenes and that one scene where he took care of her, there was no indication from him, which is why this confused me so much.
– Actually kind of boring, nothing happens until the end. If I'd been reading it, I would've been bored.

Book 3: The Dead
4 Stars
– Yes! More is happening on the physical and emotional front from both h AND H. I really liked it!!

Book 4: The Magic
4 Stars
– Really entertaining but the H's and h's in Donna Augustine's books never communicate. The h usually does her stuff alone by either running or keeping things a secret. It's always the same MO. I like my couple to be "more steady", especially if we're already 4 books in. By then they should already be a team, or if their relationship is still developing and haven't confessed yet, they should at least work together somehow.
– The couple had really cute moments, though! I loved that.

Completely different series that will draw you in.

This series is completely different from anything else I have read and immediately drew me in. I loved the unique species, like the Wood Mist, Dark Walkers, and Beasts. Plus, what girl doesn't love a totally kick a** female lead who doesn't back down, fights for what is right, and has a good heart underneath it all?

Brilliant work

Friggin brilliant! Donna Augustine weaves such great tales! I devoured these 4 books in 2 days and I still crave more so I am happy there is a spin-off series!
The general story is of a plague survivor who gets rescued. She is special because she can see dark walkers. The man who saved her needs her help and consequently helps her out and saves her multiple times; they make a great team and a funny if not obstinate couple. It is not your typical romance but is rather quite slow to form in a natural way with lots of downs and none of the constant mushy stuff. There is sex but it is certainly not erotica. This is more story focused w funny angst. I particularly liked the 3rd book in which there was a hilarious dinner scene and also a death scene. While the books are filled w funny moments and plenty of killing these scenes had me laughing out loud boisterously and also ugly crying, respectively. It's all just so well written that you're dragged into the story and you become invested!
I highly recommend this series as well as her karma series. you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely hilarious

I know, I'm giving 10 points for comedy, it's just so funny.
There were a few things that buggee me. Tiffy, great character but author kept changing her age with each story so either she was four or six. Kinda disappointed that they didn't keep her being a kid for fudges sake.
Totally loved bitter, would of loved more about him.
Tbh the whole series could of been expanded far more and the characters fleshed out, but it is what it is and I loved it. Definitely needed the series this week with having to isolate and it helped me out.

Hmmm maybe 2.5 stars? I started reading this author after reading the Wyrd series start but this is now the 3rd series I’ve read with a slender big boobed virginal heroine who ends up with a much older dude . Who is she writing for here ? Also the MC is a delusional idiot who is extremely close minded and what’s with the non communication between MC and love interest. Seems to be a common theme

Wonderful!

This series was fantastic! I couldn’t stop reading! Bad ass heroine and hunky, stubborn male fighting for their lives. The character development is fantastic and I absolutely love how unique the storyline is. Will definitely be reading more by this author. ❤️

Easy read

I do not normally care for “post apocalyptic” type books, but this has a nice story line and witty at times.

This was a great series. I always wanted to read it, but never had the time. The audio of this story was great. Dal and Dax are a great duo, and Lucy was a perfect frenemy. Definitely a must listen.

OMG Amazing

I really and absolutely loved this book series, i loved the naivety of Del throughout this whole series if found ensuring and made me love her, from her lack of people skills to the almost child like thinking (like when she announced her and Dax were sleeping in the same room and having LOTS of sex), i thought it really kept up whith the fact of where she grew up and her character was solid through out. I really liked all the other characters that were bought in through out the series.... good job and recomend 2 anyone.

Amazing

As usual Donna did an amazing job in this world and with the amazing characters. She just has a nack for innocent and badbutt characters. This was an amazing adventure and I’m so sad to see it end.

Good but tame

This was a really good series. I didn't much care for the female mc in the beginning but fortunately, she matured somewhat. She still had childish moments, like refusing to acknowledge that she was sleeping with the boss and staying in his room. She lied way to much in my book and I think a lot could have been avoided or overcome of they actually communicated instead of constantly hiding everything from each other. I hated that it took them several books to actually sleep together and when they did it was too YA considering the amount of passion between these two. Them coming together should have exploded off the page like every other time they connected deeply. But it was just too tame. Kind of a letdown after three books of build-up. In also didn't get how the plaque spread. I know what they said, but if that were true, would not what she did to Zarrod cause serious repercussions? Outside of these things, it was actually a fantastic story with tons of drama and humor. I loved that it was unpredictable. It's worth read in.
