Five Years Ago, Hugo made a mistake. Little did he know his hasty decision what have the consequences it did. If so he would have taken the time to assess the repercussions of his actions.
But with the grief Hugo was feeling due to the horrific accident that killed his sister and unborn nephew all rational decisions flew out the window, he was hurting too much, especially after losing his sister and nephew, he also lost Ava in the same week, utterly destroyed him.
For five years Hugo has been presumed dead, hidden from family & friends and from the people who seek his demise. He knew sat some point his past was going to collide with his present, but he never expected it to reveal secrets even more than he was already hiding.
But now tired of running and fighting fate, Hugo wants to dive beneath the sheets and expose all the best kept secrets!
Beneath the Sheets is book 6 in the Enigma series, that can be read as a stand-alone. This is my second book from Shandi Boyes I have read and I can’t wait to dive into another book of her, so that I can be as captivated with that as I was with this.
This book was brilliant from start to finish. The story-line and characters of this book really hooked me and kept me turning page after page, until the end not wanting to put it down afraid I may miss anything.
This book had it all from romance, to friendship, family, happiness, passion, angst, secrets and revelations but most importantly love. It has you laughing, smiling, feeling frustrated because of the choice the characters made whether for good or bad. With two incredible main characters who connection and attraction for one another is utterly undeniable for all to see and for each to feel.
This is a brilliant story of second chances, redemption and learning to trust, and build a relationship with lovers and family.
We get to read the characters have hot sexy scenes, romantic scenes, heart pounding moments and heart shattering flash backs of the traumatic events that have plagued Hugo’s life and nightmare for many many years. This book had a great pace, and the characters and their relationships were real and not rushed.
Another great thing with this book is that it was written in dual POV’s. I love reading it from the characters POV’s as we get to really see their thoughts and feeling from them rather than the other person. I also think it helps connect with a character as you get to understand some of their reasons of their actions!
Ava once again has had to overcome, guilt, pain, suffering and heartbreak, all from the loss of her best friend, but even more so when the love of her life disappears for five years, but out of sight out of mind never really works with Ava, Hugo constantly plagues her every thought and still controls her heart, whether alive or dead, Hugo has made a big impact in shaping who Ava had become in her present. She is more determined that never to set her life on the right course following her dreams, even more so for others around her, looking to her. But her past has more ways than ever to creep back in and act as though nothing has changed, yet the biggest change of all has yet to be revealed. Will people stand in the way and fight back, and make it another rough and bumpy road for Ava & Hugo? Or will things finally be settled?
Hugo is still combating his inner demons from his tours in Afghanistan, but now he has even more on his conscience, not being man enough to end the life of the guy who robbed his sister life away, from running away from Ava and allowing five years to pass. But when things finally come to realisation for him he knows he cant run from his past anymore, and returns home to his family, and Ava. Little does he know things have changed. He has changed and with people fighting to get in their way, Hugo will do everything he can to prove that his love for Ava never died and he will do anything to prove he will never leave, and be by her side forever. He becomes stronger when in her presents, she keeps the demons he fights daily away and calms the raging water inside. Little does he know a revelation will cause even more hold over his heart and a chance to prove himself once and for all.
This is a second chance read, that will hook you and grip you from the beginning. I’m so glad that our characters get a HEA, but I hope this isn’t the last we hear from them either. I cannot wait to read what else Shandi Boyes bring to this series, and whether it continues to get better book after book.
