Presenting financial management principles and best practices applicable to both public and academic libraries, this comprehensive text elucidates a broad array of issues crucial for those entering a managerial position.
If you need a rundown on financial management this provides a good and broad understanding of all the concepts (and terminology). It is not overly technical in explanations. The use of relevant examples was helpful in seeing how the different concepts have been applied.
I couldn't finish the book - the information wasn't bad, but the book desperately needed a copy editor to find and fix errors. I didn't get far before I had to put it down. For instance:
"Some authors believe that a mission statement should be written before the vision statement is completed... Others think the mission statement should come first." [p. 3]
"It provides information on the organization's purpose and scope., A good mission statements usually addresses..." [p. 4]
I just can't.
I thought perhaps I'd pick it up later, but every time I thought about it, I realized there would probably be more errors coming along to distract me from what I wanted to learn, and I couldn't make myself do it. I'm glad I borrowed the book through the library; I would have been seriously upset if I'd paid for it, especially since ALA books don't tend to be cheap. If you can get past the errors, I'm sure it has good information.
