Controlled Nuclear Chain Reaction: The First 50 Years

Rate this book
It's been 50 years since the Chicago Pile experiment and the first controlled chain reaction. Anonymous volunteer contributors from the ANS have put together this history, which ends with a celebration of the future of nuclear power (but does not talk of what to do with radioactive waste). Lacks an index. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.

Excellent summary of the first 50 years of world nuclear power. There is a lot of history and heritage captured in snapshots, paragraphs, and tables. Great basic overview reference before delving into a specific reactor design or period of research.

This text is an excellent review of the relatively short history of nuclear power and related industries. The depth of the information is impressive while the content is accessible to anyone with technical interest. The images provided are amazing and were really the highlight for me. I've been through years of nuclear technology classes and I've never seen such a complete and well illustrated summary of the nuclear industry and the history of nuclear development. This is a great read, if a little dated at this point. I hope they follow up this text with an updated version in 2017 for the 75 year anniversary of the CP-1 test!
