Afternoon Delight #1

Dirty Distractions

Rate this book
As a mechanic, Brad’s good with his hands. And he wants to put them all over Sara.

Sara might be a doctor who works with birds, but Brad’s the one who knows how to find all the right spots to make her purr. She wouldn’t mind that, if only she wasn’t ten years plus—mumble, mumble—older than him.

And if he wasn’t her best friend’s brother. Her younger brother.

Brad doesn’t care about their ages or the differences in the worlds they come from. They’re roommates, living together while Sara’s apartment is being renovated.

But they aren’t living alone. Brad’s big sister lives there too. And Sara’s pretty sure her bestie would prefer not to hear Sara having a screaming O with her brother.

Or a few dozen of them.

Then again, maybe rules are meant to be broken. And perhaps opposites attract—and age differences don’t matter nearly as much as other numbers.

Like how many days it takes to fall in love.

Sara is staying with her best friend Kim and Kim's younger brother Brad while her apartment is having work done. She loves spending time with her best friend and she has more in common with Brad than she could have imagined but she is shocked when he starts to flirt with her. After all, not only is she much older than him but he's also just come through a messy divorce. She doesn't want to ruin her friendship with Kim by making a move on her brother but Brad is a temptation she's finding very hard to resist. Surely a quick fling couldn't hurt though? Especially if they can keep it a secret from Kim. What Sara doesn't realise is that Brad has no intention of letting Sara go after a fling, he is determined to win her heart and make their relationship permanent.

Dirty Distractions is a hot and spicy read from Cari Quinn and I enjoyed every minute of it. It makes a nice change to read about an older woman and a younger man, especially since the naive young girl / older billionaire trope is so common at the moment. I loved that Sara is so experienced, she knows what she likes and isn't ashamed to ask for it which makes the chemistry between her and Brad even hotter. Brad is just a great, normal guy, the kind of that we all know and love. He has wanted Sara for a long time and now he's made his move he's determined to show her just how good they could be together. I loved that he didn't care about the age difference and wasn't embarrassed about their relationship - he wanted to shout about it from the rooftops. Sara was actually the one who wanted to keep things under wraps and I have to admit that although I could see where she was coming from I did want to shake some sense into her at times.

This is a fairly short read but it's hot as hell, has a cute and believable romance and will definitely leave you in need of a cold shower. I love Cari Quinn's writing and she definitley has another hit on her hands with Dirty Distractions. I'm looking forward to reading Kim's story in Drawn Deep.

Quick read

Not a bad story of an older woman and younger man and the usual hangups that go won with that. This one adds the fact that the younger man is her best friend' s younger brother as well. Also, she's got a doctorate degree a d he's a mechanic.

Sara, an ornithologist, is not counting. You're counting. Okay, Sara is, but, in her defense, it has been three and a half months and the man currently doing her with his eyes is hot. The downside? Said man is her best friend, Kim's, brother...younger brother, Brad. As if that's not screaming off-limits enough, in her mind at least, he's also her temporary roommate as she's staying with Brad and Kim while work is being done on her own place. Doesn't seem to bother Brad though. When Kim suggests Brad accompanies Sara to a fundraiser for their work, Sara starts wondering if maybe Kim isn't bothered by it either.

"You and Brad on the other hand—” she wiggled her eyebrows, “— would make the perfect couple.” - Kim

Brad, an auto repair shop owner, can't stop thinking about Sara, and has been that way since he first met her. She makes him feel like an unschooled teenager again and he's a grown man of almost thirty, with a marriage and divorce in his history. Okay, so the union only lasted six weeks, but still, it counts. Annnnd, he's back to feeling like a teenager again. How does she do this to him? When Sara asks him to stop by her room before going to bed, he knows, although he'd love to be wrong, that they'll only chat. They do, but other things occur as well, and if Brad is dreaming, he never wants to wake up.

“You’ve wanted to cougar me since the first time we met." - Brad

Sara can't believe what happened between her and Brad the night before, nor how amazingly sexy it was. Plus, he took care of her as she was sick? When she realizes he didn't run away as soon as he could, she has trouble hiding her surprise. The intense attraction between them can no longer be denied, logic shmogic. Her way she gets explosive encounters with Brad.

As Brad and Sara spend more time together, just the two of them and it doesn't always involve intimacy, their connection only grows stronger, as does their attraction to one another. Sara learns how badly she and others misjudged Brad upon learning the true circumstances behind his marriage, the length of it, and the divorce. But she also discovers Brad may eventually want the one thing she can't give him.

"She didn’t need kids or a husband to be content. She’d proven that. But what if she needed Brad, and he needed more than she could give him?" - Sara

But Brad can't quite shake the feeling that he's missing something, perhaps the real reason Sara wants to keep their whatever they are a secret. Maybe it has nothing to do with her concerns about how Kim will react, and everything to do with him instead. He's younger, thanks to false rumors spread by his ex Sara had compiled an unflattering view of him, and he's a mechanic. There's no initials after his name, no PhD hanging on his wall. He works under hoods, hands, and clothes, coveted in grease. Perhaps she's using him for gratification only, while he's already thinking of the possible future, and is ashamed to be seen with or connected to him in any way besides as her roommate and Kim's brother.

Can Brad and Sara both work through their individual issues and take a chance on a real relationship together? Or will one or both of them allow their differences to ruin what might've been? Can they embrace them and enjoy the love they've discovered together? Is their a HEA in their future?

One-click now and follow along as two people, seemingly in different stages of their lives, realize the heart knows what it's doing. I do have to say, I wish we'd gotten more of a conclusion to Brad and Sara's future, but I'm assuming we'll get it during Kim's story, which is the next in the series.

I enjoyed this story so much that I couldn't stop reading it until the end.
This is younger man chasing a older woman. This is the best younger man/older woman story I have ever read. Sara is staying with her friends while her apartment is being repaired and the attraction between Brad and Sara is getting out of control. Sara is fighting it and Brad is all in for it.
This is so hot you have to be prepared with an extra pair of panties or just go commando.
Loved it.
Can't wait for the next one.

*Glack, Glack, Glack, ugh, umph, Glack* <----unintelligible and unflattering sounds from Kimmi while seizing. Lets allow her a moment and a cold shower to collect herself and her thoughts........................

OH MY SHITNESS that was freakin' HOT!!!!!! Oh, I'm talking make your mouth dry, your face flush, your breath quicken HOT DAMN HOT! Is it hot in here? Or is it the thick smoldering steam coming off Brad and Sara's pages?

All Sara was looking for was a fling, a quick fix to satiate and fulfill the need that comes knock, knock, knocking on her door every time Brad is around, with his fine young delicious self. <----- yes, I just used three adjectives, AND???? Brad earned those adjectives, and he earned them hard ; )

Sara has moved to a new town for a new job, however her new apartment is in the midst of new renovations so she moves in (temporarily) with her new BFF Kim and Kim's younger brother Brad. (So many new's, who knew?) Against Sara's better judgement she decides to allow her body what it wants most, a quick tangle in the sheets with smexy Brad. Why not? It can't hurt anything, right? It's all good as long as things stay in the clear and set boundaries that Sara has put in place. However, when Brad starts pushing, and the lines begin to blur, can she walk away? Can she keep Brad as her flirty "Dirty Distraction"? Or has her heart gone beyond the point of no return?

I like to refer to Cari Quinn as the "Hotness Goddess", if there is something that I don't know is freaking hot as hell, not only does Cari find it, elaborate on it, and spell it out in black and white, she makes me pant for it! I would say I love this story, but that's too much of an understatement. I will say, over and over and over again, I want whatever the hell Cari Quinn is selling, tell me where to buy this ish in stock!!!!

A quick read but so totally HOT! The heat between young, sexy mechanic Brad and older, professional Sara was off the charts.

Dirty Distractions is book one of the new Afternoon Delights series. With the "cougar" theme, I didn't quite know what to expect nor anticipated how sexy I would find Brad and Sara's story.

This was a first for me. I've ready plenty of the older man romances but hadn't latched on to the older woman type books. Guess I have trouble placing myself as the older woman. Seems subconsciously I'm in denial of being over 40. Never really considered that.

Anyways, I started this book with no expectations; other than having an enjoyable read to satisfy my curiosity behind the older woman romances...and it so was. But I didn't realize I'd start to be jealous of Sara and the hottie she got to hump.

Those two had some seriously strong heat between them and, as with any budding relationship, they had their hang ups. Sara was fixated on the fact that she's older. She has a real hard time getting passed the age gap between them. Being an ornithologist, she has a higher education that resulted in all kinds of special letters after her name. She's a bit stiff, but that can be chalked up to her social awkwardness. She's also worried what Brad's sister would say; since she's her best friend and they're currently all living under the same roof. She's worried how her friend will react.

Brad is a muscled, young mechanic you'd want checking your oil. *wink wink*. I would totally go to him for a "lube job". He was so sexy, kind, hot and he was so into Sara, it made me swoon on occasion. They'd become friends over time and he doesn't see her age when he looks at her. All he sees is a beautiful and sexy woman that he wants in his life and his bed. His only insecurity is that he can't compete with the men from her past or present. While Sara is focused on their age, he's focused on his level of success compared to men her age. He may have his own business, but it didn't come with fancy degrees and he feels he can't compete with that.

But when these two let all that go and be in the moment....fireworks!! This was a wonderful that even had me laughing a time or two.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
“I’m a mechanic. Making things hum is my specialty.”

This was a man for whom life itself was a workout. She would bet he didn’t even have a gym membership. He just worked and played hard.
And she had a feeling he had sex the same way. God, she couldn’t wait to find out.

Praise the Lord for young cocks. Was there a patron saint for them? If not, there should be.

Feelings like this didn’t come along every day. She’d be damned if she gave them up—gave him up—without a fight. If they imploded, and he and Kim tossed her out on her ear, at least she could say she’d had the best time of her life instead of wondering what if.

He pulled her hair, and the pain felt like permission. To be completely in this moment, to give herself totally to him. To let go again with a moan that verged on agony. Even if they wrecked, they’d go over the cliff together. And God, the trip would be fucking fabulous.

“I have a surprise for you, if you’re good.”
“What if I’m bad?”
“You get two surprises.”

Dirty Distractions is the first in the Afternoon Delight series from Taryn Quinn, the pseudonym used by bestselling authors Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott. Originally written by Cari Quinn and released in 2013 through Samhain Publishing, I'm not entirely sure if there were any changes made in this second edition, not having read the first one. It's a May-December romance between forty-two-year-old ornithologist Sara Carmichael and nearly thirty-year-old mechanic and garage owner Brad O'Halloran. As tempting as Brad may be, Sara refuses to give in to his flirtation. He is, after all, more than a dozen years younger than her and the younger brother of her best friend Kim. Living in one house, however, makes avoiding one another difficult. When Sara falls sick, part of Brad's caregiving involves some VERY intimate TLC. But Sara can't get over the age difference while Brad believes he'll never meet Sara's standards. Will these two realize what they have is more than some temporary dirty distraction?

This series starter was a fairly quick read and it had the steaminess I've come to expect from the writing duo of Quinn and Elliott. I liked that the age difference had the woman older than the man and that it wasn't just a year or two or five. Of course, it's that very same age difference that has Sara taking one step forward and two steps back when it comes to Brad, and it got to the point where I was frustrated with her and felt bad for him. The two did have some chemistry, but I felt they needed a bit more of the romance so that it wasn't just about them being compatible in the bedroom. The ending felt like a happy-for-now, and it was a tad rushed, so I was kinda-sorta hoping for an epilogue to give the story a more satisfying close. Overall, though, I liked the male main character, and the story was paced well save for the rushed end. The sneak peek into book two has me curious as to what happens to Kim, Brad's sister, and her own cougar-like experience. I'm giving Dirty Distractions 3.5 stars, rounded off to four stars. ♥

This book was sent to me by the authors for an honest review. Overall I give this book 3.5 stars. There were many things that I liked about this book but there was one thing that kept me from giving it 4 stars. The first thing I liked is that the female lead character, Sarah, is older than the typical females are in today's books. The majority of them are in their twenties or early thirties. Sara is 42, which was a nice surprise. The second thing that I liked is the role reversal between Sara and Brad. Usually it is the guy who is a lot older than the female. In this case, Sara is the older one. By this role reversal, it does show the standards that are still out there between men and women in the dating world. When a guy dates a much younger girl, people don't think twice about it. When a female dates a much younger guy, they are labeled a cougar and supposedly the relationships will not last. This book also included both povs, which I really liked. The chemistry is there between Sarah and Brad from the beginning, but because of the stereotypes, Sarah is afraid of what others will think. It is only natural for her to think this and the other things she was obsessing over. Brad really liked Sara and because of her insecurities about their dating situation, it makes him to start to feel insecure about his dating motives. The only reason why they got together is because one got too sick to keep up their barriers regarding the relationship. When the other person gets sick, it forces them to put up barriers, causing the other person to re-evaluate the situation. Both people had valid points as to the status of their relationship, however, one harped more on the negative than the other person did. When they finally decide to give their relationship everything they got, things really started to heat up and the relationship became more enjoyable. the only thing I did not like was the ending of the book. I felt like it just ends. It would have been nice to have an epilogue or something because I really felt like it just ended and that is why I did not give it 4 stars

There's a part of me that really wants to be Sara...

Wait. Did I just type that out loud? Okay, I know that was silly, but it's kinda true. I'm a woman about Sara's age and I cougar with my eyes... a LOT. However, I've been married 20 years now, and I don't see that ending anytime soon, so I can only live vicariously through women that can be a cougar for realsies. (or fakesies in a book or on TV or in a movie - etc.)

With that out of the way, I think the relationship between Sara and Brad was pretty hot. I was #teambrad all the way when it came down to taking sides because of this --> , but I could definitely feel Sara.

Kim is great as well, and there's a nice hefty preview of her book at the end of Dirty Distractions. You don't get to know her in-depth here, but the snippet gives a lot away as to who she is, and adds a bit of dimension to her character - even in how she relates to Sara and Brad.

I would've loved to see some added development and length to the story because this is definitely a light & fluffy read. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that by the way - it's just my opinion that this story could've gone either way. Fine as it is, but could also carry a heavier plot.

I guess I'm glad this is one of the lighter books by these two, because it means I get all my larger story Cari/Taryn fix in between these short, sweet, cute, hot, fluffy reads!

Four stars for another Wenchy read, ladies.

Let me tell you a couple of things that hooked me on reading this book:

1. Series name #sold That has dirty written ALL over it, amiright?!
2. Age gap with the female lead beinf the foxy silver (see what I did there? lol)
3. Best friend's brother and again ...role reversal from the norm

And you know what .... I enjoyed the heck out of this short but sweet (and when I say sweet I mean sweeeeeeeeeet as sinful sexy can be) read! It's a light read. There's not much real story to it, but what there is is very relatable and not OTT. It's just a good sexy afternoon read ;)

This was a quick book that kept me engaged from the fist page. It took me a little bit to figure out who the characters were but once I figured it out I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed that it was a older female/younger male story but there were times I didn't understand Sarah's issues with the relationship (maybe it's just me...). I like Brad a lot because he wasn't the sweet/romantic doormat type that you find in a lot of books, the authors did a great job making him seem like a real person, not just a dreamy "book boyfriend" type. The story went by very quickly and I didn't feel like there were any parts that were dragging and I wanted to skim over. Great job once again Ladies!

Sara is a 42 year old woman who is attracted to her best friend Kim's 30 year old brother Brad. She is staying with them temporarily while her home is undergoing repairs. The sexual chemistry between the two comes to a head (literally) and they start burning up the sheets. Sara is reluctant at first but Brad's persistence pays off. Their story ended rather quickly (that's why the 4 stars instead of 5) but the teaser at the end for Kim's story shows snippets of their future so can't wait for that one. Good read & well written.

Dirty Distractions (Afternoon Delight Book 1) by Taryn Quinn Taryn Quinn gives us a great shorter story to tide us over until Lost Lyric comes out May 12th. And what a story it is! A younger man falling for an older woman with all of the hang ups that go with it. But Taryn Quinn handles it with humor, delicacy & real emotion. The characters are real that you get caught up in the drama & the solution that Sara comes up with when she realizes that she loves Brad & her hiding of her feelings are hurting him more than his ex ever did. And that even revealing her feelings doesn't alienate her best friend! This story is definitely a must read!! Like Mikey says on the old Life cereal commercials "Try it. you'll like it!" What's even better? a sequel coming out about Brad's sister Kim.

A sexy short story about Brad, mechanic, younger brother of Sarah 's bestie, and about 12 years or so younger. Somehow Sarah is so ashamed of the fact that she has fallen in love with a) a much younger man and b) her room mate' s brother, that she denies everything up to the point of lying to her best friend and hurting both her and her brother 's feelings. The scene in the stairwell is the most dramatic of the story, really film - worthy. But the making - up scene is a bit constructed. In the end they find each other and all is well. Lots of steamy scenes, a few dramatic moments, but not the strongest of Taryn's books. Hence only 3 stars.

A great quick sexy read. A older woman, younger man, throw a best friend in there and you've got Dirty Distractions. It was so nice to read a book about a middle aged woman and a younger man. We don't get many of those so when we do it's refreshing.

Sara is attracted to Brad. The only problem.... he's her best friends younger brother and also she is both of their roommate. He tempts her, constantly looking at her. He's young, sexy and definitely off limits. But apparently he hasn't gotten that message because he's just as hot for her as she is him.

I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters, the story line was great and the writing was wonderful.

This is a sweet older women younger man story. Brad is not only younger than Sara but also her best friend Kim's brother. Sara thinks it's taboo to have any feelings for her best friends brother than friendship but the more she see's Brad half naked the more she's has not so friendly thoughts. Great Book! Must Read!!

Sara is a strong, confident professional woman and more than 10 years older than housemate Brad. Brad is sexy and smart, a man who owns his own business and is definitely good with his hands! He is determined not to let age get in the way of his pursuit of Sara and the chance of them having some fun.

The chemistry between them proves too much to resist and the way the two of them sneak around to avoid bringing their shenanigans to the attention of Brad's sister is great fun.

This is a sweet, sexy story, full of humour too without a load of unnecessary drama and angst. A great storyline which left me hot under the collar and with a smile on my face.

I wanted to pick up something a sampler, something light from a whole list of Cari Quinn books and ended up choosing this one because, honestly, i dig the older woman - younger man combo every time. hehe!

This is a super-fast read. Reading the story is like eating a bag of chips or a stick of cotton candy. Light, delightful and leaves you sated for that time only, but nothing solid that would last a long time. The writing is simple and easy to digest - nothing overly dramatic or complicated about the way the story is laid out. In short, it's an excellent in-between read for chunkier and meatier books, especially the emotional roller-coaster type.

You have Sara, a 42 year old single, very established and beautiful woman who is pursued by Brad, an "almost" 30 year old hot garage owner and recently divorced younger brother of her bestie Kim. And they are all staying in one house while Sara's home is being renovated. Uh-huh...so you kind of know where the story is leading to.... hot younger guy has been showing interest in her...she's fighting the temptation because he's young and supposed to be looked upon as a younger brother. But there's no sister-brotherly love going on between those two for sure. He makes the move, she succumbs albeit reluctantly because she doesn't want to jeopardize her friendship with Kim and also because she thought he's a bit of a player too. But love triumphs, to hell with age and difference in career and there's HEA, well, sort of.

Pick it up if you like your heroine sensible and mature and your hero a quirky macho good guy.

I don't get this book

I liked the premise of this story--older woman, younger man; she's professional, he's blue collar--but nothing in this book rings true or makes sense. There's no real reason for the heroine to be living with her friend and her brother. Supposedly her apartment is being redone and her bird can't take the paint fumes, but it doesn't take months to paint an apartment. In the afternoon she's telling herself all of the reasons she shouldn't have a fling with her best friend's younger brother, but by night time she's sick and high on cold meds and enticing him to oral sex. They kiss and make out while she's coughing and sneezing, so not sexy in the least. One minute she's telling him she's too sick and tired to have sex and the next she's asking him to take a shower with her. They're flinging, they're not flinging; they're not having sex again, they are having sex, but no relationship. The bones were here for a good story, but it never materialized.

This was a sweet read. We have Sara, who has temporarily moved in with her best friend, Kim, and Kim's much younger brother, Brad. Sara is a zoologist with a doctorate. Brad is a mechanic with his own garage. Brad has it bad for Sara and flirts with her shamelessly. Sara tries to fend off Brad's advances because he's so much younger and her best friend's brother, but things heat up when she gets sick and Brad sweetly cares for her. Only problem is that Sara wants to keep what's happening between them a secret (because she thinks it's a fling) and Brad's not so big on lies... even the kind by omission. So that's really the conflict in this one. That, and Sara coming to terms with the idea that Brad might be more than just a fling, and Brad trying to figure out if he's good enough for her. And between lots of steamy sex, they figure it all out and it's good.

I usually really like the stories by Taryn Quinn, but his one was just not for me. I found the characters annoying and immature, and neither they, nor the story had the humour or charm I have come to expect from these authors. Had to essentially DNF at first sex scene as French Kiss and oral sex occurred while she was in bed, feverish and drugged with cold medicine, just after sneezing several times...Ew, just not sexy, sorry. Final Rating: 1.5 Stars - DNF seriously reading, just skimmed to end and toasted from my Ebook Library. I received this book from the authors for an honest review. Still looking forward with eagerness to Perfect Pitch. the next Found in Oblivion Book...

It's a good thing that there aren't any hot mechanics nearby where I live cos after reading this book, I'd totally jump them if they entered my line of sight! ;)

This book was hot from the get-go! And I like storylines where it's the guy who wants more and the girl is cautious. Total role reversal.

And who knew sexy scenes could emerge from one of the chars being sick. LOL

Definitely an afternoon delight for me as I guzzled the book down!

(This book needs to be read with several tall, cold glasses of yummy drinks followed by a really cold, long shower after ;))

Brad's fallen for his roommate, only there are a few complications. She's also his sister's best friend and they all live together in the same house. It's a bit of a reversal on the "falling for my brother's friend" theme and I really liked that about this. Sara is older, too. She's the first to call herself a cougar as she drools over Brad.

It takes Sara a while to give into Brad's chase, but a bad cold sets her up for some sexy times. I've got to say that isn't the most erotic time to have your first sexual experience with a young lover, and that was a little weird, but it's all good because Brad doesn't care about those germs. He just wants to get closer to Sara any way he can.

After nursing her to health, he thinks things will progress, but Sara is still hesitant to let Brad's sister know what is going on between them, which ticks Brad off and causes some real conflict between the two of them.

Dirty Distractions is a fun filled sex romp that was a great distraction from the real world, and I liked that about it. It was just a fun read, which is what I've come to expect from these authors.

I liked that Brad wasn't a pushover, and that Sara had some real concerns about what bringing Brad into her life might mean. They both had decide to be with each other, rather than them just falling into each other's arms which made the HEA all that more meaningful.

So if you are looking for something light, older woman with a younger man, with lots of sexy times, you might want to try Dirty Distractions.
