A New Take on Alien Encounters

Lights in the Night is an interesting read with a lot of colorful characters set in a small Texas town. Except for one part of the story, the pace is well-done and easy to read. I enjoyed getting to see the personal growth of Trevor from lost to fulfilled in an unexpected way. With how comprehensive the epilogue was at the end of the book, it makes me curious to see where the next book in the series will go. I’ve already purchased, and look forward to reading, Darkness at Midday.

Lights in the Night is fun. It's how a Thursday night should happen. Something unusually pleasant and unconventional like an ice-cold, brain freezing, tall drink of watermelon juice, Kool Aid brand Fruit Punch and as much vodka as you can take. Drink it up while taking your online course from the Ministry of Silly Walks. I liked this this book lots. You will too. Or something is wrong with you.

I will sometimes remind the reader that I don't like to spoil a plot - as I am now doing. The moral of this camp fire story is simple. Stay out of West Texas. Or, maybe, don't trust a woman named Crystal.

Inexplicably, I'm reminded of Jim Jarmusch's 1995 movie, Dead Man, starring Johnny Depp and Gary Farmer. That said, if you miss Carlos Castaneda and Douglas Adams, loved the alien encounter movie, Paul, or fan Mystery Science Theatre 3000, you'll love Greg's romp of a story, Lights in the Night.

What a quirky and entertaining twist to an alien/sci-fi story. Trevor and his brother are quite the con artists and finding the next get rich scheme seems super easy. Chasing the source of the lights in the night and the possibility that they could be paranormal to a small Texas town where the hospitality and manners are as sweet as the tea, the company as twisted as a horseshoe, and the atmosphere as sharp as booted spurs - Trevor just might find more than he bargained for.

A fun trek into the concept of alien invasion and supernatural beings with one doozy of an ending. If you enjoy these types of stories you'll enjoy Lights in the Night.

Quirky and entertaining.

'Lights In The Night' is a very enjoyable story with some very original and quirky characters in the lead roles.

I enjoyed the humor in the writing as well as in the way different situations developed and played out as the book progressed.

In this quirky romp, Trevor is drawn from London to a small town in Texas. The strange lights that initially caught his attention in a story, are just the beginning of the odd things, or people I should say, that he runs into. The cast really made this enjoyable, from the group that comes with Trevor, to the people in the town. Sergei cracked me up, and his tea…

The plot moved at a deliberate pace and concluded with a surprise. There was a fresh humor that on more than one occasion, had me laughing. The blending of genres will allow for this to be enjoyed by a nice spread of readers, there was even a dash of romance thrown in.

I see the next part will be releasing very soon, and look forward to it.

Greg has a great way of setting the scene for his readers. His descriptions of events and the characters draws you into wanting to know more about each individual and their journey the small town to either witness or take advantage of the ‘UFO’ siting. Lights in the Night is a great weekend read. Thank you for a very enjoyable read.

A sleepy west Texas town named Marysfield is the setting for this story. ‘Old Sits’ seems to be a paranoid old hermit who sits out in the countryside watching nearby military operatives. While studying them one evening, a brilliant light formed in the sky and a shrill squealing sound seemed to be coming from the light. The sound bursts his eardrums while the single light multiplies into many. Scared beyond reason, ‘Old Sits’ runs to his old truck and heads into town with the lights trailing behind him, seeming to pursue him. There were others in town that witnessed the array of lights in the sky that night and one such person sold his photos to a news magazine across the ocean in London.
The Swindell brothers have a thriving business enterprise in the city of London. Barnabas, the elder brother seems to have the Midas touch with making money. Trevor, the younger sibling, is still searching for his path in life. Obsessed with extraterrestrial sightings, he talks his older brother into funding a venture from the photo he sees in the paper. He believes they could make a killing by buying up property near this small Texas community and then promote the heck out of the UFO sightings, making a tourist trap of the entire area.
Trevor finds more than he bargains for when he arrives in Marysfield as he meets the colorful citizens and begins his project. This was an extremely creative story with many well-drawn characters, both good and evil. I loved Cuff and Link, Trevor’s two sidekicks and wish we saw even more of them. The only slight criticism I have was with the meeting between Trevor and ‘Old Sits.’ Sits gives drug-laced tea to Trevor who experiences hallucinations. I found it hard to imagine ‘Old Sits’ using such a drug when he spends his time in cautious surveillance of who he perceives is the enemy. That along with why he would share such a drug with a stranger felt somehow wrong in my opinion. Otherwise, I felt this was a very engaging page-turner and highly recommended.

Bernard and Trevor were orphaned as children. Bernard became a businessman, and Trevor became...Trevor. He was always interested in supernatural, paranormal and the like. When he finds out about some unexplained lights in the sky over a small West Texas town, he goes there to find out what it happening. He brings along two men to help him in his plan - to purchase as many houses as possible, then turn the place into a paranormal "destination," and make a lot of money. It begins to seem like someone beat him to it, when several thousand people descend on the town to have something akin to "Woodstock," complete with people wearing tie died T-shirts and driving old VW Vans. From that point on...wackiness ensues, and we find out what is REALLY going on in the small West Texas town of Marysville.

The book was enjoyable, and did have a twist at the end that I did not expect. There were several punctuation errors, but nothing that took away from the enjoyment of the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into UFOs and the unexplained.

“Lights in the Night” is a quirky jaunt about a crooked British land-speculator trying to dig up information about a UFO sighting in a “smaller than small” Texas town that he and his brother hope to exploit. The story is filled with humorous and odd situations as Trevor—the afore-mentioned protagonist—meets up with a cast of stereotypical western characters and plunges into a conspiracy theorist’s wet-dream.

Alldredge’s main plotline is somewhat predictable, and—aside from the main protagonist, Trevor—the supporting characters seem a bit one-dimensional. The story is a familiar tale: Wayward stranger comes to weird town to investigate UFO incident, finds even weirder characters before things really get strange, and … Well, I won’t spoil the ending for you. All in all, however, the odd reveals and humorous detours Alldredge takes to reach his unprecedented ending are worth the trip for fans of this particular genre.

This book is a mysterious kind of alien invasion story. The story is creative and told from an interesting perspective.

However, there were too many small story-lines within the book. They were all tied up in the epilogue, but most of them just made the book confusing to read without adding to the general story. There is also some room for improvement in the writing itself, which seemed a bit haphazard at times.

Despite all this, I believe that creativity is very important in writing and that the writer is likely to improve with time, since he does have a good grasp of the creative part of writing.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Since I currently live in Texas, I felt I could relate to Trevor's first impression of the state, even in a small town. I enjoyed the fact it was light hearted and made for a fun reading experience, despite the element of mystery that hung over the town he visited. I do feel that as the story developed, the obviousness of what was really going on kind of slapped me in the face as a reader...and the phrase 'beating a dead horse' came to mind repeatedly, but all in all it was an enjoyable story. I would recommend this book for fans of sci-fi and travel (from the U.K. to U.S.) with a bit of authenticity.

Overall, this book was pretty entertaining, and I like seeing things through the lead character, Trevor's eyes and learning the background on him and his brother. There is the mysterious element of a small town being visited by aliens and the MC in search of the truth. However, I think this book would benefit from another round of editing, as there were commas in several places they should not be. It was just one little thing that interrupted the flow of the story for me. Other than that, it does have story completion, a satisfying end, and a likable main character.

The story takes place in a small town where everybody knows each other. The lead character Trevor offers plenty of dry humor and quirky dialogues. He arrived in town with a grand plan to profit on "alien" sightings. Although Trevor is not a totally legit businessman as his "Swindle Productions" in Cayman Islands would have clue you in, he has a big heart for the under-privileged which makes him somewhat likeable. But my favorite character has to be Grace and her nuggets of wisdom. Everything or rather everyone is not what it seems and the ending was a bit of a surprise for me.

Definitely more than just a light in the night!

After a bit of a slow start, this well-written book becomes more fast-paced culminating in a series of events that leave the reader looking with interest at the sequels.

The author presents his characters and there a re a few. Each of them has a personality and a way they live and I must say I particularly like the epilogue with Dale's ending.

A small town in Texas is besieged by aliens, Russians and trigger happy rednecks, oh my.

Highly recommended!

This book was quite an entertaining read. The narration is wonderfully light-hearted and humorous, and the characters in particular are memorable and drive the story along. I kept imagining it as a well-done indie film, and will have to check out its sequel when I have the opportunity.
