Ghost [gohst] noun: the soul of a dead person, a disembodied, vague, shadowy spirit wandering among or haunting living persons; a mere shadow or semblance; a trace. That noun sums up Ghost and what his life has become with painful precision. He is barely living, merely existing but never thriving. There wasn’t much that could pull him from the darkness he willingly inhabits…except one thing. Her. She is the reason he’s done what he’s done, and his life has become what it has become. He haunts his former life, lurking in the background, surviving on occasional glimpses of the only thing good that is left in his miserable life. The horror he has inflicted upon her is nothing compared to the terror that waits for her when someone moves in to take her from him. The thing about being stuck in the past is that it is like walking through life backwards. She is always looking back, so she doesn’t see what is happening in front of her. Unfortunately for her, it turns out that the ghosts of the past aren’t nearly as terrifying as the monsters of the future. They say that true love is like a ghost, something that many talk about but few have seen. It’s a good thing for that, too, because he’ll need that element of surprise to protect her. Hopefully when the dust settles, he’ll be able to resurrect more than just himself.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
Mind blown! Seriously, completely and utterly blown away! First, Lani Lynn Vale was killing us with the suspense around Ghost's identity - which I'm not even hinting at, btw, believe me you'll thank me for hanging onto every word until it's revealed, like I did -, and now, she totally and utterly KILLED IT with Ghost's story!!! Since the very first book of the Dixie Wardens Rejects, we all been dying to know and read Ghost's story, so much so that ended up as origin and speculation in endless threads on media. Beard Up became of the most anticipated Release of the year, and undoubtedly of all of LLV's books. Well, I can honestly say all the anticipation and built up were surpassed by the book, and specially the main couple. I never thought it would be possible to come up with a explanation for Ghost's decision where I would completely forgive him, but damn, Lani sure proved me wrong, because I was rendered speechless. Completely understandable and without another choice, no one would have chosen the alternative, so I hurt for him, as much as for his wife and child. His wife's reaction was another of the highlights, totally unexpected, and so humanly realistic, I cried right along with her, and felt what she felt.
“I made a promise to myself a long time ago,” she said, her voice heavy with grief. “To God. To anyone that would listen.” I swallowed thickly, not sure that I wanted to hear what she had to say. “What?” “That if I ever got another chance…if you came back to me some way, that I wouldn’t squander it. I wouldn’t scream. I wouldn’t yell. I wouldn’t question. I wouldn’t hate. I’d love you. I’d love you for every single second that you were gone. I’d hug you. Kiss you. Never let go.”
More of a surprising, honest and heartfelt explanation I couldn't have asked for. Their reunion brought simultaneously to tear and smiles, and heart as full as the MCs themselves. I adored every devoted word, every caring gesture and loving feelings. Beard Up was one of the most realistic and truly heartfelt stories I've ever read. This married couple's love and devotion made me fall in love all over again, not only with Lani Lynn Vale's writing, but with all Romance all over again! Top Three best reads of the year and fav LLV of all time! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
My heart was full. I had the love of my life in my arms, and our kids in our bed. My club—both of them—at my back. It was a long, painful road back to this point. I’d never take any of this for granted because life just didn’t get any better than this.
ARC kindly provided by the author for an honest review
I find it hard to believe that after faking his death and making the heroine believed that he was dead for 6 years, the heroine wasn't at least a bit upset, If that was me I would be a raging lunatic.. I would be so pissed that he lied but THEN and only THEN I would be happy that he's alive but not before slapping his face for making my daughter and me suffered but nothing like this happens in books NOPE we get a happy over the moon heroine who doesn't care that her husband faked his death for 6 years.
Maybe I'm being way too picky with my books and lately I pick at everything. 💁🏻
“That if I ever got another chance…if you came back to me some way, that I wouldn’t squander it. I wouldn’t scream. I wouldn’t yell. I wouldn’t question. I wouldn’t hate. I’d love you. I’d love you for every single second that you were gone. I’d hug you. Kiss you. Never let go.” She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. “I know you. I…that day at the baseball park…you smelled like you.”
This was minutes after finding out that her husband was not dead. Sure she did screamed but that was all she did... Come on 6 years without the love of her life?... 6 years that her daughter grew without her father?.. 6 years that she cried her eyes out?.. 6 years without moving on?... Yeah I would definitely be screaming my head off And I would also be slapping the heck out of his face but Hey that's just me.. And well at least I got the reaction that I wanted from his sister. Lol
Yes he has a very good reason for faking and staying away or at least it worked out for him when he technically died he just stayed "dead" but my problem was her reaction after finding out he was alive. *shrugs* but I guess everyone reacts differently.
Now don't think for a second I didn't like it because I did.. Like I said before I pick at everything and I was happy that they were faithful to each other even though the heroine had every right move on and I wouldn't have been upset with her if she did because she thought he was dead, now him? I would've been upset if he wasn't celibate because his wife was very much alive so yes if he slept with someone else then I would've a problem but they were both celibate and I'm happy about that.
Bring on Fender's book.. And can we get Lynn the "Joker" story?? I'm definitely interested in him too.
I feel like I have been waiting for Ghost story for freaking ever to come out in audio and he was sooooo worth the wait.
I loved the whole story and why he is like he is. And his wife and daughter and why he had to stay away. I just loved this whole story. It took me a few days to write this review because I didn’t want to just gush.
When I think about MC men Ghost is who comes to mind for me strong man willing to protect the people he loves at any cost even if that cost is not having him in their lives.
I feel like his sacrifice is a weighted one, seeing from afar and not putting their or his pain to rest for many years all in the name of protection. I guess I just love Ghost the absolute most.
I again am a fan of the narration and the writing who am I kidding Lani Lynn is awesome and her narrators kill it every single time for me.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
I was excited to read Ghost story and who he truly was. To say I was shocked and surprised, I truly was. This book was everything expected and more, I was not disappointed at all. Once again, Lani Lynn Vale proved that she is truly a fantastic author and writer. “I’d love you for every single second that you were gone. I’d hug you. Kiss you. Never let go.” “ I know you. I…that day at the baseball park…you smelled like you.” This book had it all from the start to the last page and I didn’t know what was going to happen to this couple. It was actually nice to see characters from previous books she has written, but they call came together in the end. This book had its drama, a really good storyline and some hot sexy scenes as well. After reading this book, I got to see who Ghost truly was and the background to his daily life without his family by his side. I could see that his wife had a hard time raising their kid, but manage to do with the help of the club. “The way you used to kiss me seven times in the middle of the when you thought I was sleeping.” This was a touching story about love and what you sometimes sacrifice to keep your whole family safe. Even though you missed out on so much. I can’t wait to see what Lani Lynn Vale, writes next.
It just stopped. I put it down and picked it up several times but I had to force myself to finish it. It peaked too early maybe and just went flat. The villains were just a little too evil and what they did to his daughter was beyond sick. I do think the love between the hero and heroine was hot and i loved that they got together again but some of it was just too much. And this is just my personal opinion and I don't usually like motorcycle books so don't take my word for it. I will read this author again though and go read the series because I need to know about the rest of the gang. So I did like it just didn't love it.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, suspense, murder, secrets, and heartbreak.
Before reading this story please read the below books first Beard Mode (The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC #1) Fear the Beard (The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC #2) Son of a Beard (The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC #3) I'm Only Here for the Beard (The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC #4) The Beard Made Me Do It (The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC #5)
This is Ghost’s story. Years ago, Ghost died. He was brought back but at the cost of losing everything he loved. Now he is Ghost. His past is keeping him quiet. He sees his family but they don’t know he is alive. When his wife is threatened he will stop at nothing to protect her. Even if it means coming back from the dead. But coming back from the dead will be at a cost. Someone still wants his dead and will do anything to keep him dead. He knows to many secrets to be alive. But when his woman needs protection he finds himself unwilling to go on with a lie. When she finds out he is still alive she just might kill him herself. It’s but 5 long years without him. When it comes time to take out the danger that is after him and his family he will have to expose the reason he had to stay dead to his brothers. Will they help him take out the danger forever? Will they protect him when he never told them he was alive? Can he finally be free to live his life with his family?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Ghost has been watching his wife and child for years but never got close enough to reclaim the broken pieces of his heart. Ghost had to do what he had to do in order to keep them protected but now that he sees they are in danger he has to make a difficult decision. Does he continue to stay at a distance or make a move that will change everything and unravel their lives in a way no one saw coming.
So I was blown away by this story and don't want to reveal too much because it is a huge part of the book. You know Ghost from the previous stories but never really knew too much about his past. I picked this one up and did nothing all day until I finished the story. I am definitely going to reread again and this has instantly become a favorite in the series.
OMG. OMG. OMG. I swear I must have said OMG a thousand times while reading Beard Up. Lani Lynn Vale outdid herself with this one and it is beautiful, tragic, heart breaking, emotional and full of moments that you didn’t see coming. Now I know you want to know who Ghost is. Well you won’t be hearing it from me. Not only out of respect for Ms. Vale but because this is a book that you need to EXPIERENCE to fully feel the IMPACT it delivers.
From the very first page until the last words at the end I didn’t want to put it down. I had a migraine the day it hit my kindle and I was not letting anything stop me from reading Ghost’s story. This is a book that builds with each revelation given, with each circumstance revealed, and with every twist and turn thrown your way. Obviously I won’t give the slightest hint to who Ghost is, so this is going to be one of my shorter reviews so that I don’t spoil it for anyone. Just be prepared to FEEL, CRY, be CONSUMED, and finally and most importantly find the TRUTH about what happened.
I absolutely can recommend Beard Up but I would recommend reading the previous books in the series just to get a better background on why all of us are so curious as to who he is. Lani Lynn Vale completely blew me away with Beard Up, this one was so worth the wait and the questions, I loved it and can’t wait for more of this series and more from this author.
I liked this book a lot. I understood the H's reason for leaving and was glad he wasn't with anyone during that time he was gone. I also really enjoyed the h. I only wish that their daughter was a bit more involved in the book. I didn't like how it came out to her that ghost was her dad. Other than that though I loved it!
As a huge Lani Lynn Vale fan, I, like the rest of her diehard readers, have been eagerly anticipating the release of this book. Seriously, the wait for Beard Up has been like the romance book world’s version of who shot JR! Vale has been having a grand old time dropping hints and mercilessly teasing her readers, hoarding details and carefully doling out information about this book. She created a firestorm amongst her readers as they debated and speculated about this hero’s identity. As a long-time fan who’s read every word she’s written, I’ve enjoyed that added element of camaraderie and excitement surrounding each release in the Dixie Wardens Rejects series.
I’m going to be purposefully vague in this review because, as I stated, the identity of the hero is an enormous spoiler. It’s no secret that I’m a diehard Lani Lynn Vale fan. I love her books, I love her writing style and the fictional worlds she’s created in Kilgore, Benton and now Mooresville. Her sense of humor is a never-miss source of amusement for me, and everything about her books from the way she pieces them together to the plots and the characters just seem to tick off all my boxes. It all comes together for me, every single time, and it’s why she’s secured a spot as one my top favorite authors.
So, while I may always be impressed with this author’s work, I’m thrilled to say that she is in top form here and exceeded my high expectations of her. Vale penned a suspenseful, sexy and satisfying read full of emotion that drew me in from the first page and made this a difficult book to put down. It was positively gut-wrenching watching this hero haunt his former life, and his longing to return to it was a palpable thing. I felt genuine relief – mine and the heroine’s – when the pieces snapped into place for her. Their reunion was loving and sexy, and I cheered this couple on as they reconnected and made up for lost time.
One of my favorite parts of any Lani Lynn Vale book is her unique sense of humor. It’s laugh-out-loud funny and witty, and she used it here to balance out the emotion and intrigue with astounding success. More than just hot and hilarious, though, Beard Up was action-packed with an interesting, exciting suspense plot. As if all of that wasn’t enough to catapult this book on to my 2017 top favorites list, readers are treated to liberal appearances by many characters from previous Dixie Wardens books in this book.
Vale’s Dixie Wardens Rejects series, along with the last few books in the Dixie Wardens series, have all been leading up to this book, and Lani Lynn Vale did not disappoint. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book, enduring months of insinuations in her books, and I can honestly say that it was well worth the wait. She delivered a soul-healing, hard-earned, second-chance love story that was passionate, moving and exciting. Quite simply, she not only lived up to the hype she created around this book, she knocked it out of the park, and it’s is my opinion that Beard Up is Lani Lynn Vale’s best work yet. Five smooches from me! ~ Danielle Palumbo
i have a suspicion that this is tunnel, and he did not die in a fire. it clicked for me when i was re reading counter to my intelligence and silas was sitting in the cemetery drinking a beer with his tombstone telling him his baby was starting school. i cant wait to find out for sure though seeings how the book hasn't been released yet.

I've followed this series from the very beginning, fell in love with each new Dku Warden Reject I met. Ghost had to be the most secretive of any members and 1 for one, was more than a little excited to find out that Lane Lynn Vale was going to give us all the answers to our questions when it came to this man.
4.5 sexy dreams
Finally things make sense! Finally we get to find out the 5 w's that have been rolling in my brain for what seems forever. And finally we get to find out if Ghost will her lose the haunting look from his eyes. I inhaled this story and can't deny that so many parts made my heart speed up and done every single moment I got to enjoy this story. Knowing that there's only one last book to this story is almost bittersweet, and yet Lani Lynn Vale manages to make it easier as we come full circle.
Oh Ghost. Where do I start. The anticipation of this book, paired with the emotions and angst, not to mention the mystery made this one of my favorite Lani Lynn Vale books. I know I say that about every single book I read if hers but this one blew me away. I've been waiting for this since the very first Reject book some months ago.
Stock up on the alcoholic beverages, tissues and snack food because you won't want to stop reading until you get to the very last page, and even then it was hard to accept that, that was where they would finally find their happily ever after. I don't think I've ever cried so much reading a Lani Lynn Vale book except for Jack and Winter's story.
After six years, five months, one hour, and thirteen minutes, Ghost finally has his wife in his arms. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Everything that happens, happens for a reason. The lengths that Ghost will go to protect his family knows no boundaries. I love the way Ghost loves his girls.
I promise you won't be disappointed. This story was definitely worth the wait. And I'm so glad Ghost finally got his happily ever after.
And then i proceeded to read non stop page by page until Mina found out the truth...
then I was like
"MINA WTF"
Because if you were expecting what I was expecting, and if you made it play out in your head like I made it play out in mine, some HEAVY GROVELING would have been involved.
That pivotal scene of disappointment made me almost (about 90%) DNF this. If my husband pretended to be dead for 6 years and I found out that he was actually alive - and pretty much in contact with me & our daughter - I would be pissed af.
Story wise? Great. It's LLV, so it'll always be great.
But is this the best book of hers I've read? No. Did it reach the expectations / hype? No.
This was fairly disappointing but I still enjoyed it.

So usually I have a hard time reviewing this authors books because everything she writes is so awesome I don’t want to stop to review it and I just fly through her series. I had to stop and say something with this one. Ms. Vale threw a twist in this story. Anyone who has begun to read this series new Ghost had a story and we were just impatiently waiting for his book. But holy crap was I not expecting that!!! So good.... I think most fans of Lani Lynn Vale who have read her past series will be happy with this outcome.
So after finding this author and reading book 5(first) and then devouring the rest of the series(books 1-4) I couldn't wait for Ghosts book, I can tell that for those who read this series in order and had to wait longer than me for his story they had to be anticipating his book since I have been and I haven't even been waiting a month. I fell in love with this author and her writing style, and these characters and the world they live in. You could just tell Ghost had a great story waiting to be told and I couldn't wait for it.
This book was definitely a book that stood up to all of my expectations. We got some of Ghosts story but a lot has been hidden specifically because thats what Ghost wanted. This book starts with snippets we previously saw, him asking his club for help and visiting his wife, and then him threatening her neighbor. Then we get Ghost and Mina's story. Falling in love while they were still teens, getting pregnant but making it not only work but making a loving family, Ghost(Tunnel) becoming a cop, Mina becoming a nurse and their beautiful daughter and them happy. Mina and their daughter were Tunnel's life and then his family got involved.
With no other choice Tunnel made the hardest decision of his life and walked away from his family to keep them safe. Thinking her husband died six years ago Mina isn't the same, she loves her daughter and friends but Tunnel was the love of her life, now with a threat she never could have seen coming friends help Mina and her daughter and that yet again changes her life giving her a new lease on a dream she never believed possible.
Ghost will do anything for his family like he did once before but now happy after so long of being dead inside Ghost has to once and for all eliminate the threat that took it all away, it won't be as easy as he though and it won't be safe. But Ghost will do whatever it takes to get the life that was stolen from him back for good.
I loved this book, though I'm guessing you knew that from the 5 stars. Sometimes when we want a book so much those are the ones that seem to let us down. Maybe because we want it so bad it can never live up to our expectation but this book right here lived up to everything I hoped for. Ghost was an amazing hero period, the things he dealt with and came out stronger is amazing. Mina was strong but broken the love of her life died but she kept going because of her daughter and I loved her the strength she had was amazing. Does she forgive him yes and some say too easily but with her explanation and him telling her why I got it.
And can we just say thank you Lani Lynn Vale for not making Ghost a man who slept around all over the place, I mean lets face it they are still married and some may not like that they are both I loved it and if you say thats not realist I will say 1) it's a romance book (so yay for this choice) and 2) really who's to say after loosing the love of your life, and I'm not talking about some Hollywood marriage, I'm talking about a loving marring where this was it for you that you wouldn't do this, or that 6 years wasn't enough for you. We all process grief differently and who's to say this isn't realistic, I honestly can't say that.
I will say I really wish I had read the other series that Tunnel/Ghost is featured in(a part of?) first so I could have seen who Tunnel was to the other club and the connection, and them thinking he was dead for so long. I bet that was a great moment for people who had read both series. I also give props to the author for writing Ghosts parent as evil as they are, what they do is horrible it was a big risk to be written in but I think Ms. Vale did a great job with it.
Like the other books we see the previous characters as well as some yet to come and that just adds to this series and book. We also meet Lynn(or at least I meet him for the first time in this book) and I loved him, The connection he has in this book was yet again another reason why this author is so amazing. I really, really hope we get his book I know it will be fantastic. I can't recommend this book enough, but read books 1-5 first because they are just as amazing. This was one of those books that I finished and I am just a little lost after because it was so great. I just can't figure out what to read next because, will it really be as good as this one and I'm not sure it will be but at the same time this was so great I want something I'm going to love as well. And finally I can't wait for the next book, we get a nice introduction making me very excited for the next one. Thank goodness the wait won't be too long.
Gahhh, I love this book. Even knowing exactly what's going to happen I still feel the same emotion I felt reading it the very first time. Re-read 18/02/18
"Oh you motherfuckers" - pretty much my vocabulary throughout the whole book.
Lani you are an evil genius!.
Normally I'm pretty quick on the mark with the surprises. However, this hit me like a mother fucking fright train.
I read a review or two that said they wished the heroine reacted more, got angry etc. I disagree. She was hurt, angry and just downright thankful that the love of her life was actually alive! She had a second chance that many could only dream of. So I agree with her short outburst but fast forgiveness.. in her position I'd of done the same considering the reason behind it all. I think that in his position he done the right thing. The subjects in this book are not for the faint hearted and what he did saved his daughter and wife while killing himself inside. He sacrificed everything for them including his humanity. Ghost is exactly what he was neither dead nor living he just existed. What he did took balls and I commend him for that.
I was on edge the entire book thinking what's going to happen, what will they're reactions be like. Who will breakdown, who's going to win. The suspense was unreal and unlike anything I've read from Lani and I've read every single book. The story is so tightly woven into this angsty heartbreaking emotional rollercoaster. Seamless, and not without her typical broody males and quirky ladies. Her crazy humour and wicked one liners. Oh and let's not forget her panty melting sex! Oh Lordy they are on fire!.
Just unbelievably brilliant. Obviously I'm a biased bitch because I love all her books. Xo
Finally, Ghost’s story!! I couldn’t wait to dive into his story and find out what was behind that stoic façade… And that beard…
High drama, wild emotion – this author delivers the goods each and every time. This time was no exception as heartache, devastation and grief were balanced by the sheer joy of life and family in this stormy, stormy ride. Ghost is a shell of who he was, re-created through living and surviving a hell on earth. He lived in fear and those fears were being realized… Unless he could stop it…
“And then, there was nothing but us. Nothing but the way she felt. Smelled. Sounded.”
Ghost’s story has been percolating and saying I dove into this read was an understatement. Who was he, really? What happened to him? While the mystery was soon revealed that in no way took away from the methodical, gut-wrenching sharing of how he came to this time and place, and how those circumstances impacted everyone around him. It was harsh and hard-reading in some spots as the details quickly showed the villains’ no-holds barred depravity. There is anger and forgiveness and edge-of-your-seat suspense as all the characters were pulled into Ghost’s personal hell…
Given this read’s storyline, I wasn’t surprised that the light-heartedness was kept to a minimum but I was very happy to see it peek out now and then. And I needed it as I read this into the wee hours…
“Marriage: when dating goes too far.”
Be prepared for an emotional ride that will keep you happily riveted until the last page…
Yesssss...Ghost story is finally here!!! Hippp...hipppp Horary!!! lol Ohhh y'all I have been dying for this story and holy shit it didn't disappoint!!!
"He is barely living, merely existing but never thriving. There wasn’t much that could pull him from the darkness he willingly inhabits…except one thing. Her. She is the reason he’s done what he’s done, and his life has become what it has become."
This is one of those reviews where I have to be very Vague in writing..cause come on y'all, you don't want me to spoil anything about this book!! I should just put a warning at the beginning of my review...STOPPP...GO IN BLIND...DON'T READ ANYONES REVIEW!!! Just know this book is everything I bet you will hope it will be!! It is everything that you love about Lani Lynn Vales writing. Beard Up is bad ass, Hawt and gives you all tha feels with it!!
I gave this book 5 iScream Books Stars!!! Goooo one click this bad boy ASAP and Dayyuuumm as usual with Lani's books, enjoy this cover she has chosen for this book...Sooo yummy!!!
WOW just WOW! I don't even know how to put the awesomeness that is this book into words. I was so excited when I learned that we were going to finally get Ghost's story. We would finally learn who he is and why he is such a mystery. I am not sure what I was expecting with this one, but I never expected this. I was completely blown away! Of course I won't be telling you who he is, you'd hate me if I did. Not only because that would be a horrible thing to do, but also because this book needs to be experienced and lived. I was sucked into this story before I ever knew there was a story. Vale had me hooked before I opened the first page, and didn't let me go. I am still enjoying a serious book hangover, and will for a while. This entire series is absolutely amazing but Beard Up is the best one yet! I am left yet again, begging for more!
Wowza! What a wonderful story. Loved this so much!!!!!!! I can't say too much about the hero and the characters in general as they are ginormous spoilers. But I can say that this is a wonderful story and Lani Lynn Vale has done it again. Awesome character backstories, twists all over this plot, and straight up awesomeness in this story!!
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
For some time now, Lani Lynn Vale has hinted about Ghost’s true identity, providing brief insights into a man who readers have met before and who they desperately want Vale to bring out of the shadows and give him a second chance to reclaim his wife and daughter while also ensuring that his family is protected from the monsters who are the reasons behind his original ‘death,’ horrific resurrection, and lonely and haunted existence.
Lani Lynn Vale has meticulously laid out Ghost’s re-emergence, ensuring that all pieces of his story connect and follow a precise timeline, and while the present day Ghost will always have parts of the man he was, it’s important to understand that he will NEVER be that person again, which means in order to understand the man he has become, readers must be privy to his backstory and the history of the events that turned Ghost into the quiet, aloof, and hardened man who readers catch glimpses of in previous storylines.
Then…
Ghost’s life was pretty picture perfect: he had a wife who loved him unconditionally, a daughter who meant the world to him, and a job he worked his butt off to acquire. His family was his body, his heart, and his soul, but in order to protect them and not take them down to hell with him, he had to give them up until the time came when he could reenter their lives and never be without them again.
The flashbacks of this time along with insights into what Ghost’s wife has to endure without him is spread throughout the storyline, showing just how heartbroken, lonely, and desperate both sides are without one another. These past events also force readers to truly understand just how evil and sadistic Ghost’s parents are and what they’re willing to do to get what they want.
Now…
Six long years have undeniably changed the man Ghost was, but what it hasn’t altered is his deep and unrelenting devotion to his beautiful wife and baby girl. It’s crystal clear that they are all that matters to Ghost and he’ll do what he has to, to ensure their safety, trudging through hell and back as well as haunting his former life so that when Ghost can come out of hiding, he’ll get the revenge he so desperately craves and deserves .
What Lani Lynn Vale reenforces in Ghost’s story is the bond that is established between MC brothers once someone joins their ranks. The Dixie Wardens have every member’s back, including their family members, and that idea is expertly illustrated throughout Beard Up. And even though most of his brothers are left in the dark about his resurrection, Ghost knows they’ll stand behind him…they’ll do what needs to be done despite their anger over the lies they were told and the grief they felt when they thought their brother was never coming back.
Beard Up is an intense story due to the deplorable operation that Ghost and his brothers work to take down, Ghost’s conflicted feelings over his need to protect his family, and his desire to finally be a part of his family’s life after his long absence. Ghost’s struggles play out on the pages of the story in a way that readers can’t help but feel his anguish, his guilt, and his fears. There’s so much pain and heartbreak that Ghost and his family must endure, and it feels like it will never end because what Ghost must contend with is not something that will easily fall.
Lani Lynn Vale does an amazing job with Ghost’s story; I couldn’t put the book down because I needed to know who he was, why he left his family, and how they and Ghost’s MC brothers would react once the truth was revealed. The layout of Beard Up is well thought out; readers must understand the characters’ backstories before reuniting them in present day, and with those pieces of their story provided, no one can question Ghost’s choices…no one can truly say they would do anything different given the circumstances he was faced with because he always had his family’s safety in the forefront of every decision made.
