This is a wonderful work of scholarship about George MacDonald's theology, imagination, and literary legacy by Mr. Rolland Hein.
I enjoyed his biography on MacDonald, Victorian Mythmaker, much more than this one particular book, but this is certainly a book that helped me understand different themes in MacDonald's fantasy books, and made me appreciate the great Scotsman even more.

Through his writings of fantasy, MacDonald was able to humanize his Calvinistic upbringing. This book is a study of several of his fantasies, which all seem to emphasize that true faith is joyous. My favorite line? "There is a God-shaped vacuum in every human heart."
