Checkmate duet series #4

This is Effortless

Rate this book
Courtney Bishop is as sugary sweet as her famous blueberry muffins.
Southern belle at heart, Cali girl by choice.

She barged into my life and easily became my best friend. All was great as roommates and just friends, but then I fell for the girl who could chop firewood, deliver baby calves, and bail hay without breaking a sweat. She’s the perfect mixture of sugar and spice, and I love her.

Being more than friends and trying to build our future isn't as easy as it sounds. Moving forward and creating memories is all I want for us, but when the past continues to come back and haunt me, I'm not so sure she’ll stay for the ride.

Loving her is easy, but losing her will break me. Burning passion combined with an undeniable chemistry constantly pushes and pulls us together. In the end, I'll prove we’re worth the fight, even when the game is far from over.

Checkmate, Sweetheart.

This is book 2 in the Drew & Courtney duet and must be read in order. Suggested for mature readers only.

This book picks up right where we left off with Courtney & Drew in Vegas dealing with the drama caused by Drew's ex-girlfriend. Their spontaneous, romantic trip is ruined after Mia follows them to Vegas. They head back home, & learn just how crazy she is. Drew will do anything to keep Courtney safe. He can't seem to shake off his past, and is worried he could lose Courtney. He is so in love with her & cant imagine his future without her in it. It would break him to lose her. He is ready to fight for what they have.

-"I don't think I can live without you."

-No matter how much time we spend together, it never feels like enough. I want him- all day and night- all the time.

Courtney has crushed on Drew forever & cant believe he's finally hers. They've gone from best friends & roommates to lovers. When his past comes back to haunt him, Courtney won't let anything come between them. Drew is her world & she has no plans of ever letting him go.

I really enjoyed this couples story. A sexy police officer & his little sister's best friend. Courtney was lusting over Drew since day one, & she finally gets her man and he's dreamy & delicious! We get a super hot book with all the beautiful love too. We also get a lot of Travis & Viola thrown in. I really have loved this whole series! Can't wait for Logan & Kayla's story!

-Nothing could ever stop the way I feel about her.

-I can't stop all the feelings that surface when it comes to Courtney. She's everything perfect and beautiful, and I still can't believe how far we've come after all this time.

First of all, this book is hands down my favorite of the whole series, for reasons I’ll explain later.
Second of all, it’s the hardest to review because I will not spoiler anything, and things can get tricky when so many spoiler-ish things happen and I cannot give anything away.

That being said, why did this book become my N. 1 in the series? Very simply because if there’s something I love about sequels, that is seeing the couple face issues, worries and complications together. This was a big, fat check.
Courtney and Drew’s love is stronger than ever and not even that bleach of Mia Montgomery will be able to drive a wedge between them, even though she’ll try.

Also, if compared  to the first intallment, I found “This is Effortless” less angsty. Again, this was due to the unquestionable strength of the feelings for each other. I loved to see them do coupl-ish things together, like going out for dinner, hanging out with friends, attending ugly sweaters parties, or playing with… not gonna spoiler!!! Ha-ha!

Can I say on a side note that I adored the little icon separating the chapters? It’s shaped like the timer for chess games and I found it lovely and perfect for this book.

Drew is also another huge reason of my effortless love for this book. He’s so thoughtful and caring and funny and hot. All he wants is for Courtney to feel safe, and he’s not afraid to show her how long-term he thinks they are. Especially after seeing him clueless for so long in “This Is Reckless”, his certainty in his feelings and their relationship gave me the warm and fuzzies.

We are treated to some Viola and Travis interactions, too. Nothing too consistent, but it’s always funny to see them with the babies. A character who, instead, is more and more present is Kayla, the “puppy-slinger”. It’s clear we’re gonna get a book about her and Logan Knight (Knight, anyone?) and I’m extra-curious because we don’t know exactly what Logan’s deal is. Also, I really enjoyed seeing him jealous when Kayla started dating another guy. It reminded me of Travis a bit when Viola was dating someone else, but broodier. Oh, and Kayla’s confession about her date not knowing the definition of “harder” sure makes me eager to read whether Logan will measure up to her expectations.

I’d say something about the level of steam in this book, but it feels like overkill. Kennedy Fox knows how to fluster their readers and this installment was no exception.

Overall, it was a great conclusion to Courtney and Drew’s story. I agreed with where the plot and storyline went and loved how strong their relationship was, so that all drama was mainly external. The epilogue was incredible. It made me laugh and it made my heart pitter patter.

The only flaw, for me, was that I predicted a major plot twist since the very beginning and it spoiled a little of the final surprise. There were just… not many options, let’s say.

Would I recommend it? Without a doubt. Of course, you have to read “This is Reckless” before diving into this one, but it’s definitely worth it. Courtney and Drew’s story, to me, is way more epic than Travis and Viola’s. I know lots of people prefer Travis because he’s soooo alpha, but Drew’s devotion and protectiveness, all the time Courtney spent pining on him and the degree of evilness of their villain  gave me the epic vibes.

Courtney and Drew have been featured throughout all of the Checkmate books yet I somehow skipped over their own story and never went back to read it. I'm regretting that now though because I loved seeing how they got together.

It wouldn't be a Kennedy Fox book if there wasn't at least a little drama involved but this book's drama had me wide-eyed almost the whole time. I loved that it had me on the edge of my seat throughout both books and had me begging for a day off of work so I could stay with Courtney and Drew.

Without the drama I still would have loved this book though because these characters were the definitely of meant to be. They were adorable together and I was really happy to see Drew come to his senses and realize that Courtney was more than just a roommate. They were actually really sweet together and they had me smiling like a loon multiple times. I'm actually a little sad to see them go, though now I can't wait to get more of those Bishop brothers!

I LOVE COURTNEY AND DREW SO MUCH. I enjoyed their story a gazillion times more than I enjoyed Travis and Viola's. Drew and Courtney go through so much together in this book and their love is tested. They came out stronger and ugh, I just love them.

And guess what, this book ended in another cliffhanger and the next duology is Logan and Kayla's story and now I have. to. wait. for. it. kill. me.

This story picked up right where the last one ended. If you don’t know where that is then I suggest you pick up Checkmate: This is Reckless - Drew & Courtney #1 to find out. I’m trying really hard to avoid spoilers here!

It started off strong. Amid tons of drama and some OTT moments, Drew and Courtney remained solid and united. I couldn’t have asked for more than that. I loved seeing their unity despite the chaos that surrounded them. However, towards the middle and getting to the end, I felt a lull in momentum. To be quite frank, it got a tad boring. I started to dislike Courtney and it all felt a bit like filler. I hate filler. The heroine started to act like a ditz and I was left unimpressed.

When the story finally picked up steam, it gave me a sense of euphoria because I felt lost. Drew was the only reason I kept on reading. He was beyond amazing! The climax was a little anticlimactic but at least I finally got to sing the Munchkins song from The Wizard of Oz.

4.5 'Surprise Muffin' Stars!

A great conclusion to Drew and Courtney's duet! This is Effortless was full of surprises, suspense and funny, sexy and emotional moments. This was definitely a roller coaster with all that stuff (that I will not be talking about, because I am a good person and I do not spoil lol) but of course, everything ended beautifully! Kind of. That end will make you curious about Kayla and Logan, that is for sure!

I recommend both duets by Kennedy Fox, they are killing it with everything they release. I can't wait for more!

Awwe♥ this is just the perfect ending I wanted for Drew and Courtney. If I have to choose, this book in this series is my top favorite. It became the highlight of my day the moment I started reading it until I reached the end. Ahhh...their journey is just awesome and amazing rolled into one. Kennedy Fox just made a beautiful ending into their crazily good romance. It was the best and I love it to bits! I guess my Drewtney addiction just escalated!

After that cliffy in Checkmate: This is Reckless - Drew & Courtney, #1 that had me wanting to strangle a bitch named Mia and my heart in a twist, I was so giddy to start this book. Aside from I was left hanging, I am rooting for Drew and Courtney's HEA. What's not to love and root for? These characters have come a long way, from just roomies to best friends and then lovers. The curve balls thrown at them along the way. And for eff's sake, thems the bestest couple because they just rocks! Their banters that never waned instead just escalated into sizzling ones, the undeniable chemistry, adoration and love for each other...it's just like a fantasy come to life. You can feel all the emotions while reading lines after lines, who would have thought Drew to be so damn sweet my ovary exploded? And so dirty too??? Oopsie! Yeah..I know...he's sweet but in this final installment, gawd he is just more than what he seems to be. The things he will do and risk just for Court, he's just perfecty imperfect! Be still my beating heart.
“You want to have a family with me?
He nods his head and returns his lips to mine.
“The truth is I couldn’t imagine a family without you.”

This! This is the reason why I was so engrossed with this ending. It is just the sweetest book ending and Kennedy Fox nailed it! It wasn't over the top but just a perfect balance sweetness, banters, fun, scorching scenes and even that maddening feeling. Gawd! I went from being so worked up with Mia to swooning over Andrew, loving some more with Court and then to falling madly in love with #TeamDrewtney and this story. You cannot blame me. I was over the moon with this book because it exceeded my expectations. It wasn't rushed, it was articulately and perfectly written and delivered. It aimed not just to please but to deliver to readers a perfect ending for the couple we have grown to love. With that cliffy in the first book, this is just what we needed and I wasn't disappointed. Again and again, this duo just proves how excellent they are as a writer for portraying a story and delivering it with perfection.
"I don't believe in soul mates, but if I did, there'd be no doubt in my mind you'd be mine."

Overall I will recommend this book.Team Drewtney's journey, a friends to lovers trope is just a beautiful tale woven with Kennedy Fox's beautiful words. I can't help but devour this book. The characters are irresistible, and to be honest aside from the beautiful tale of friendship to lovers, they are one of the main reason I am so into this book. Their banters and sizzling chemistry plus all of the gang present, made my journey with them so fun and enjoyable. I was enamored with the beauty that is This is Effortless, because it is effortless to read. The flawless way of telling the story while making readers feel what the author wanted to convey was on point. I can't count the times I was swooning and smiling. I don't know but they they just get into me BIG TIME. I feel like I was swayed into a music, a beautiful one...so refreshing that left me with all the heart warming feels. Yes I went from so worked up because of the ex's antics and bitchiness but that was just the tip of the iceberg. What this book left me is all the good feels, a smile permanently etched on my face and a heart full of love I'm afraid it's gonna burst.

Indeed,
"Checkmate, sweetheart."

To Kennedy Fox, you never cease to amaze me. Start to finish you grabbed my interest. I was pulled right into the the story and I'm so drawn into it. Aside form that, I fell hard for your stories and now, I can't wait for the next book. The way you ended it made me want to crawl into your artistic minds because I am dying to read it. Ahhh.. you have that power. The power to make me even fall hard with your writing. Now, I'm off to waiting for the next one. Kudos to both of you!

DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOK #1

FINALLY book #2 in Courtney and Drew's story!
Remember that horrible ending in book 1??? Jeez!!!
Book 2 starts right where we left poor Drew with Mia in that Vegas Hotel room!

Mia seems to have lost her mind. We have to get a restraining order - which, of course, doesn't help much when you're dealing with a crazy stalker person!

We have LOTS of Mia-messes and excitements and dogs to survive until Drew and Courtney can ride off into their happily ever after sunset!

What will happen to Courtney & Drew?
Will there finally be a HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!!!! ☺

Finally back in Sacramento with our darlings
We again have lots of Travis and Viola in here too! And also Logan and Kayla - who are going to be the main people in the next 2 books! ☺ And then there are Courtney's many brothers - there are LOTs of stories left to be told in this series!!! At least I hope they'll be told!

I really enjoyed reading this final book in Drew & Courtney's story!
We were left hanging soooo horribly in that first book! Oy!!!
I wanted to throw Mia out of the nearest window. And it's not getting better anytime soon!
That woman is crayyyy-zeeeeee!

Great book. Lots of excitement and suspense and frustrations and some verrrry SEXY times!

#CHECKMATE: This is EFFORTLESS was the perfect ending to Court & Drew's lovestory! Exciting, adorable, erotic, frustrating, sad, moving! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Drew - this one is MINE!!!☺

... were there some things I didn't like? Hm not really. Just sometimes the writing is not really my thing. But that's my problem. I can't really explain it. Some expressions or words just seem wrong to me. Wrong words in the wrong place. No idea. I'm weird!
Also the moment right at the beginning where Drew doesn't tell Courtney the whole truth, and we know it's going to come back to haunt him. Stupid boy - but also slightly stupid, unimaginative story-writing. Why write such a weird unnecessary drama thing?? There's enough drama with Mia without that Oh-So-Surprising 'lie'. BUT also - it wasn't as bad as it could've been - Courtney doesn't scare easily!

Can't wait to see what Logan will have to tell us in the next book!

Wow, I can't believe what I just read. I've now read four books by these authors. Book one, I liked it enough. Book two, liked it even more. Book three was back to liking it enough but what the hell happened here? This book was completely unnecessary. The story like was forced to try and be suspenseful but was about 95% anticlimactic. The parts that might have been interesting died fast enough on their own because of how predictable it was. Come on, I saw all that coming a mile away.

Everything else in between was mindless fluff and BS. I'm sorry, but I'm getting sick and tired of trying to sugar coat my thoughts. It was cliche on top of cliche, cheesiness on top of an extra large, extra cheese pizza, and it just needed to not happen. If nothing else, these two books should've been combined and cut a bunch out from both story's to make it work. Clearly there wasn't enough of a storyline to develop this into a duet. Just because the first duet worked, doesn't mean it will with every couple.

I was impressed with the last two stories about the writing and flow of the two authors working together, but in this book, it felt like two amateurs who had never worked together. Simple thoughts. Simple sentences. No depth. No emotion. I don't care how many times you make your characters say 'I love you', you need to make me believe it. And why did Courtney all of a sudden get annoying AF? That I would really like to know the answer to.

So, this sucks that I had to get all ranty for a minute but come on. These authors are better than this. I know they are.

4 Stars to This is Effortless: (The Checkmate Duet #4) by Kennedy Fox.
Genres: Romance, Erotic Romance, Romantic Suspense

Drew and Courtney.......

Before I continue with this review, you need to be aware that This Is Effortless is book two and picks up where book one, This Is Reckless left off. That said, there was one heck of a cliffhanger so you need to read book one first.

So doing my best to not give away any spoilers, I can tell you that although the angst and suspense is present by the same person, there are many new twists and turns to keep you wondering what is going to happen and when.

For me the climax was not a complete surprise; I had my suspicions pretty early on. What I was a little disappointed with was the resolution. I was definitely happy about what happened but I felt it was rushed and left me slightly dissatisfied. I would have like to see more of a confrontation.

As characters, Drew and Courtney were absolutely adorable together. They were an amazing couple. Never mind that their chemistry was smoking hot, it was the way they treated each other with reverence and love that tugged at my heart. And don't even get me going on about how perfect Drew is as a hero. Oh. My. God! The mold was definitely broken after Drew was created. Seriously, if you read book one then you already know his looks and physique were drool worthy. But also, Drew is loyal, loving, attentive, protective, romantic and absolutely easy to fall in love with.

I believe Courtney was a perfect fit for Drew in every way. However, in this book, as opposed to book one, some of her character elements changed. She was no longer known to me as mouthy, sassy, bold, and courageous. Yes she still had some of those qualities but sadly I felt they were overshadowed by her fears. Courtney acted more like the victim and less like the smart*ss, a**-kicking Courtney we met in book one. This is only my opinion and you may think differently.

The middle portion of the book got a bit boring as we waited for the suspense element to return. But once the story took on a steadier pace, I was fully engaged once again.

Courtney and Drew's books were the first I read by Kennedy Fox. I admit I am really looking forward to the next duet, eager to learn Logan's story. And I certainly will be adding Travis and Viola's duet to my TBR.

What a sweet, crazy, blueberry muffin-filled ride! I'm seriously, just absolutely, insanely in love with these books. These characters. These storylines. I can't. They're so good, I swear I can never let them go. That was just the perfect ending to such a beautiful journey of two best friends who've come so far. With everything they went through, they deserve this the most. And This is Effortless certainly made me fall head over heels for Drewtney all over again.

Courtney made me feel so much for her here. Not that she didn't already, but what happened to her, every single thing that Mia fucking Montgomery did, was just the final straw. The lunatic has finally completely lost her marbles and went off the deep end. Just so you wait. Mia will still manage to rile you up, piss you off and have fire blowing out of your ears faster than you can flip the book to the next page.

The Courtney Bishop that showed up in this book made me love her even more to the point that I was just in awe of the lady she's become this far. I mean, even I was starting to get freaked out by the lengths of how far Mia's obsession with Drew would go, for crying out loud. But this Southern girl did not back down from anything. The woman held on to what she believed in and *almost* never wavered nor gave up on what she and Drew has. Now that she owns the heart of that one guy she's crushed on and loved for as long as she remembered, she toughed it all out and did everything to keep it that way. She's just a complete darling from start to end and she deserves every bit of happiness that came and will still come (because I don't think I'll ever get over them) their way.

And Drew. God, Drew Fisher was just as captivating and heart melting as ever. The love and fierce emotions that this guy has for his blueberry muffin-scented Southern belle shone through like a beacon in the middle of a dark ocean. You'd really feel deep in your bones just how far he'd go for the woman he loves. How he will do anything in his power to keep her safe and in turn, all to himself. It was all too endearing to witness such a badass, tatted up deputy go all smitten and gone for a woman like Court.

Oh, and then they went and got Buddy. My poor ovaries were already obliterated as it is. Now it's just a whole heap of goo on the floor. They were so hilarious and ridiculously adorable together. Their interactions were insane. Ugh, way to rack up all the feels all over again, Deputy!

These two are indeed a match made in heaven. It might've taken Drew a longer time to see and realize this, but then fate swooped in and worked its magic. Drew and Courtney just handled what life, or dare I say Mia, threw their way with such passion and love that could fire up a damn lighthouse. It was real. It was unbreakable. It was beautiful and all encompassing. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but it was theirs and still a fairytale worth telling and repeating nonetheless.

This author duo can do nothing wrong. The love I have for Kennedy Fox just keeps on growing with every single tale they share. They've proven yet again why they're climbing up the top and getting more and more well-known to the entire book community. I never wanted Drewtney's story to end, just like Traviola's. It was so very addicting. Once you enter the world of the Checkmate series, there's just no going back. These characters. These stories. These will all stick and stay with me for a long ass time. And now the waiting game for Logan and Kayla's story begins! Because seriously. That ending!

Friends to lovers ROMANCE PERFECTION!

Every word, every page, every chapter was savored like it was the very last blueberry muffin on this planet. I wanted to take my time with it, and at the same time, devour it as fast as humanely possible. Courtney and Drew's beautiful and exhilarating conclusion comes to a head and leaves me wanting SO MUCH MORE!

"I don't believe in soul mates, but if I did, there'd be no doubt in my mind you'd be mine."

An ABSOLUTE DELIGHT to read, THIS IS EFFORTLESS had me smitten cover to cover! I can't seem to get enough of these two unforgettable characters! This friends-to-lovers romance had me giggling, shouting, swooning, and blushing with every turn of the page. With sizzling sex scenes and a slew of suspenseful and unforgettable moments, the conclusion to Drew and Courtney's love story had me falling head over heels ALL OVER AGAIN!

"Loving you has and will always be effortless."

It's astounding how deep their love has grown for one another. It's enchanting, beautiful, and just lovely. If you are a desperate seeker of happily ever afters, then this series is the one for you. It has so many feel-good moments that you won't be able to keep the smile off of your faces. It was surprising how suspenseful this one was. It added another element to this already perfect romance. The writing duo that is Kennedy Fox, has blown me away with every book they release! It's like they came out of nowhere and took the genre to another level. I am so grateful that I've found another writing duo that knows just what I like in my romances. Their brand of romance will pull you out of any funk, and their characters will enamor and delight you. The writing is remarkable. Their ability to suck you in from page one is astounding. Everything about their style sets them apart from many in this genre and it seems like everything they write becomes a favorite of mine.

If you enjoy irresistible characters, hilarious banter, and sizzling chemistry, THE CHECKMATE DUET is for you! It's mouth-watering, addicting, and oh so SWOONY! If you are looking to get your friends-to-lovers fix on, well look no further. The buck stops here, and there will be no going back once theses amazing characters embed themselves in your hearts.

I loved the conclusion to Drewtney's story!! They are my favorite couple so far and I really enjoyed reading the progress of their relationship. I loved the steamy scenes between them, but it was a little overdone, because at some point I felt like skipping some. But this author team can definitely write a hot scene and give you all the feels! I also loved the suspense in this one, even at some point I was getting tired of Mia being on the loose. Especially near the end However, I am so commited to these characters and I have to read Logan's mysterious story with Kayla! I feel like I know what's the big mystery about him, but I'll have to find out sooner than later :)

woooooooooooooooooooooooow, mia is super crazy in this one.

Checkmate: This is Effortless had a lot of drama and action. Wasn't expecting so much betrayal and craziness to go around either. It was highly entertaining and definitely helped fuel my hatred fire for Mia. Then there's Drew and Courtney and they were utterly adorable. Gave me life.. but I think my favorite character(s) in this one were their new dogs. One hundred percent a dog lover and they were just giving me life while being kept at work.

Besides my dull day, I fell in love with everyone BUT two people. They know who they are and I'm okay with it. Crazy seeks crazy man. Other than that, definitely laughed at the whole "my tubes are tied" thing and then the uh-oh baby coming.

Overall, really enjoyed this book and these two together. I'm intrigued to see the next couple!

I could not wait to get back to Drew and Courtney after the conclusion of This is Reckless to see how their story ends. Checkmate: This is Effortless was an emotional and action filled story that picks up right where book 1 left off. It is the second book in the Checkmate duet and is not a stand alone and should be read after This is Reckless.

Oh Deputy. I didn't think it was possible to love Drew more, but I was so wonderfully wrong. We've seen the cocky alpha cop and brother, but this time around he showed a more protective, vulnerable, and sweetness that left a goofy grin on my face for most of this book. Seriously, Drew and Courtney are friends to lovers gold. He's not perfect and may not always make the right decisions, but his heart is ALWAYS in the right place. I love that when he commits, he's all in.

Courtney needs to be real. I would love a BFF like her and she's one of my most favorite heroines ever. She's smart, sassy, funny, and incredibly loyal. I love that she nurtures her relationship with Drew just as much as her friendships with Viola and Kayla. #squadgoals for sure. She has some of the best dialogue too and Kennedy Fox never disappoints with their sexy and hilarious banter! I really love her quirky and loving family too and hope that this isn't the last we hear about them, especially Jackson and Evan.

Sorry this review is purposely vague, but I really don't want to ruin some of the amazing surprises and twists that the authors have thrown into Drew and Courtney's journey. Just rest assured that you will laugh, swoon, gasp, have a panic attack or two, and then feel all warm and fuzzy. Some things were a little over the top and the story stalled a bit in the middle for me, but I did enjoy the suspense and mystery in this book. Though this is the end of Drewtney's story, I know we will continue to get updates on them and Traviola. Speaking of Travis and Viola, their appearance in this book is awesome!! Travis and his super... yeah, you'll have to read the book ;) I can't wait to for Logan and Kayla's story next!

That was PER-FECT!!!! What a way to end Drew and Courtney!! Squuueee. Just loved it!
Storyline... Effortless.

Characters... Effortless.

Connection... Effortless.

Feelings... Effortless.

Heat... Effortless.

Deliverance... Effortless.

Seeing a pattern here?
Checkmate: This is Effortless was indeed just effortless. Kennedy Fox finished Drew & Courtney's duet better than I could have ever expected and hoped for.

Everything in this second part was delivered with precision and ease. The flow and pace of the story was just perfect, it was fast enough to hook my attention. Slow enough to add mystery and suspense. Kennedy Fox left nothing uncovered, all my questions were answered and the best happy ending delivered.

This is Effortless messed with all my emotions. I'm pretty sure I experience every single emotion possible. I got tummy sloshes, an elevated heart rate AND skin tingles. Sometimes ALL AT THE SAME TIME!! My feelings were well and truly dragged from me and laid bare for all to see when I got to the end. But I wouldn't change a damn thing! It was the best feeling!

Drew & Courtney maintained their intense relationship. If anything, I only felt their connection blast through even stronger. They truly edged themselves under my skin and lit me up from the inside out.. Drew is FIYAH! Courtney is SASS! Together they are explosive.

I'm head over heels for all things Kennedy Fox. I adore their passion that relays so easily through their words. I love the way they take their characters and raise them to the next level making them unforgettable. I love that their stories are kept fresh and are always addictive.

Checkmate: This is Effortless is intense, passionate and oh so sexy! The perfect ending for Drewtney!

The Kennedy Fox duo has done it again! After the crazy ending in Checkmate: This is Reckless, I couldn't wait one second before diving right into This is Effortless. Thank goodness I had an ARC waiting for me! Just a heads up, you MUST read Reckless before Effortless. You can also see where Courtney and Drew first started by reading This is War and This is Love. It's not required but I definitely recommend it because I loved them just as much ☺️
.
So, Effortless picks up immediately where Reckless ended - in the midst of some INSANE Mia drama. This girl takes crazzzzy to a whole new level! I loved the added element of suspense that the first duet didn't have. Courtney and Drew's relationship was really taken to a whole new level under the circumstances and showed how unbreakable their bond really is. I fell even more in love with these two in Effortless. Their love and passion for one another is so real and had me full on cheering for Team Drewtney!
.
Seriously guys, I cannot gush enough about this amazing writing duo! Their characters are ones you can relate to and want to rally around and be best friends with. Their stories are completely addictive that once you start, you won't be able to stop (I promise you that!). They just keep getting better and better with each book and I know they have many fans (myself included) for life. If you're a contemporary romance reader, love sexy times, and enjoy a good laugh here and there I urge you to start the Checkmate Series! Now bring on Kayla and Logan! My body is ready!!!

Checkmate: This is Effortless was a highly anticipated read of mine ever since I read that god-awful cliffhanger from This is Reckless. I needed to see how Drew and Courtney would deal with the bitch drama that is Mia. While I didn’t quite enjoy this one as much as I did Drewtney’s first book because of all the hectic, filler drama, I was still glad to have read this and finally get to see how Drewtney ended up. If you were a fan of the Checkmate Duet series, you will most likely love Drew and Courtney’s conclusion!

Mia has gone off her rails and is determined to ruin what Courtney and Drew have. This woman is CRAZY, thinking she and Drew still belong together. But Drewtney is as strong as ever, despite Mia’s antics to scare Courtney off. Courtney does get scared, but Drew, mister Deputy, is working hard to make her feel as safe as possible. Drew is as sweet as ever – I really enjoyed how he was trying to handle Mia all the while making sure Courtney knew how much he loved her. Courtney is relatable with her fears and struggles with Mia, although I did get frustrated at how she relied on Drew a little too much.

The main reason why I didn’t love this book was because of how the drama with Mia seemed to drag on forever. I felt like Drew and Courtney could have dealt with Mia so much sooner than they did, which would have cut down the book length. And when Drewtney weren’t worried about Mia, they were having sex. I love a good steamy scene, but all the sex seemed to hinder the story progression.

Still, the ending of the book was definitely my favorite part. I was happy to see how Drewtney’s relationship concluded, and I’m excited for more in the series! I love the girl group that is Viola, Courtney, and Kayla and can’t wait for the dog-lover of the group to get a book with her uniformed man!

Checkmate: This is Effortless is the concluding duet story of Drew and Courtney. In order to fully understand what is going on you MUST have read the first book since this second installment picks off where it last left off. So with that out of the way, now onto my review.

Friends to lovers!!! Ummm, hell yeah!!!! Excuse the excitement over here but Kennedy Fox delivers a fun, sexy and sassy love story of two former roommates who became best friends to now lovers. Drew and Courtney's story is filled with lots of highs and unwanted drama from a crazy ex that doesn't get the memo time to move on. But hey, crazy Mia couldn't stop the love that Courtney had for her deputy.

The devotion and commitment Drew and Courtney had for each for each other was legit. They were that couple who had been tested over and over again with unwanted drama and craziness but found a way to survive. So with a blend of craziness and sexiness, Kennedy Fox will have readers devouring this book in one sitting as this book was one of those fast reads. All in all this book was fun and steamy and has me begging for more especially with Kayla and Logan's book up next.

**4.5 STARS!

My sweet, sweet babies! What a ride this one took me on!

Drew and Courtney are back and going through a whole whirlwind in this one! While I'm sad to see this is their conclusion, I am beyond happy to see that these two remain just as hilarious and hot as ever! I anticipated this second book so much and I was not disappointed!

THIS IS EFFORTLESS follows Drew and Courtney as they deal with the aftermath of the first book's ending. Throughout the entire book I was on my toes wondering what and WHEN we would catch a glimpse of this pesky problem that would just not let go of these two. This book also kind of had a slight mystery feel, as they have loads of cops (but mostly one seriously yummy detective) to help with the dilemma!

We still get our usual tons of blueberry muffins, our hot as sin scenes, hilarious banter between our two MC's and between other characters, and more members to the Checkmate fam! You guys have no idea how excited I am to meet these newer characters that we get a bigger glimpse of! I need the next book NOW!!!!

Without a doubt, much fun was had while reading this!
If you're looking for a sexy book with quite the mysterious chase, a few hot southern brothers, all while anticipating that sweet beautiful ending, then this is your book!

Omg I didn't think Mia could get worst.

After the way the last book ended I was dying to read this book and it was great. It was great to see Courtney and Drew as a couple and stick together with everything that has happened. I did get a lil annoyed with Drew for not telling Courtney things and it did not him on the butt. But I don't think I could be so forgiving even though they did need to stick together over Mia being a crazy woman. I could call her some many names but I 'll keep it clean haha. I can't believe the things that Mia did to try and get Drew back. My heart went out to Courtney she had to deal with so much. But she had Drew there to protect her. The more Mia got crazy the stronger Drew and Courtney got.

I really enjoyed this book. The story is great and very sexy. Drew and Courtney are really hot together they literally can't keep there hands of each other. The story did get a lil intense at time which I luvd. There was still lots of humour in it which was great. I luv Courtney's character she is so funny and keep Drew on his toes but we did see a different side to her in this book. She is alway strong and can deal with anything but her strength did get tested in this. Drew was a lil different in this book as well. After dealing with a horrible incidents in work he was finding thinks hard. But he has to get to together for Courtney his feelings for her got stronger everyday and there was no way he could live without her. I would highly recommend this book it was so good. I m dying to know more about Logan and Kayla. I need to know more about Logan and what has him so cut off from everything. Im also dying for more of the Bishop boys there so funny and quiet sexy. I need more of them.

Kennedy Fox always has the ability to create a novel that I happily devour in one day. Their stories are always perfectly paced and addictive enough that I lose myself in the plot for hours on hand. Checkmate: This is Effortless is the sequel to Checkmate: This is Reckless following the lives of Drew and Courtney as a couple. While the first book was setting up their relationship, this novel is showcasing the tension and problems woven into their lives because of people from their past trying to tear them apart. This is Effortless manages to combine both a steamy romance and a tension filled story together to create the perfect weekend read that you’ll eat up without a second thought.

I loved the direction the story took, in this novel, especially with all the twists and turns thrown into the mix which was introduced in the first novel, following Drew and Courtney. The looming danger hanging over their lives created a sense of urgency in the story that really helped the plot line move along, and I appreciated that aspect the most. The story wasn’t too fast paced or too slow; at all parts, it was well paced in a way that keeps your attention at all times. I also loved how funny and quirky both of the characters were. Their dialogue felt so real and relatable, and I just really love characters that feel more like friends to me rather than fictional characters.

From the action to the characters to the romance, I was obsessed with this story. I loved all the new issues that were introduced into the plot and was so invested in the Drew and Courtney’s lives. I didn’t want this story to end because I loved their relationship so much, in all aspects. This was the perfect sequel to a romance story and is a great summery read to pick up!

5 Soulmate CROWNS

It is completely effortless to love the Checkmate series. Every character, every story line, every word written is entertaining, steamy, romantic, suspenseful, leaving readers sitting on the edge of their seats devouring each delectable word.

Lovers of Drew and Courtney from This is Reckless will only continue to love these two with the second novel in the duet. Drew is still that man with a heart of gold and determined to protect Courtney at all costs. He continually puts her happiness over his own, and readers will swoon over the vulnerability he exposes by wearing his heart on his sleeve. Courtney has a more difficult time in this book. Her confidence in herself is shaken as result of the acts of others in this book, but in true Courtney fashion she won’t go down without fighting, which will only make readers love her more. Every single time she stood back up, not allowing fear to control, will make readers stand up a cheer for this phenomenal heroine.

Drew and Courtney’s chemistry in This is Effortless also continues to be off the charts, inside and outside of the bedroom. Readers will love their time together talking and hanging out just as much as they love the dirty and steamy times in the bedroom.

In true Kennedy Fox fashion, This is Effortless will have readers biting their nails in anticipation of how this story will develop. Will this person get caught? Can Drew and Courtney stay together under the pressure? Will “She Who Shall Not Be Named” finally get what is coming to her? Will Drew and Courtney get their HEA? These questions are all answered, and these authors expertly weave the romance and progression of their relationship with the suspenseful aspects of the story, making the atrocities committed by another character strengthen their relationship. Oh, and that ending, that ending will have readers smiling from ear to ear. It is the sweetest and most well-deserved ending for two of my favorite characters.

Kennedy Fox continues to establish themselves as one of my favorites authors, and with the conclusion of the second duet in the Checkmate series, they are firmly in the automatic one-click author. Their stories always suck me in for their romance, their heat, and their suspense. I get lost in the world they create, truly providing me with an escape.

Let me just preface this review by saying I literally devoured this audio in less than half a day. It was that good. The ending of Book 1, This is Reckless left me scrambling for the next book. Seriously, I could not get my hands on This is Effortless fast enough.

Over the course of This is Effortless, Mia continues to play games with Drew and Courtney’s relationship. Watching them face every obstacle thrown their way and seeing them coming out all that much stronger in the end gave me all the feels.

And can I just say how much I love these two together? Her crazy compliments his calm so well. They are opposites in many ways but together they just make sense. They have such a fun and playful relationship. Literal relationship goals.

Drew is the definition of a book boyfriend. His love for Courtney shines so bright throughout this book. He makes it well known that Courtney is numero uno and he will go to the ends of the earth for her safety and happiness.

This is Effortless has been my favorite book of the Checkmate Duet series thus far and I’m so excited to continue this series with Logan and Kayla’s Duet.

Lia Langola’s narration was (again) spot on for both Drew and Courtney’s characters.

Review by Lisa Kane

Checkmate: This is Reckless ended on a huge cliffy. This is Effortless picks up at the same spot. Drew Fisher and Courtney Bishop are in Vegas enjoying a little escape from all the crap going on around them. Only it seems to have followed them. Drew wakes up and under the covers paying him a little unwanted attention is Mia Montgomery-his crazy ex. Mia is up to some dangerous tricks and Drew has more to worry about than how he is going to explain to Courtney his oral escapades from Mia.

“Drew Fisher!” she spits in my face. “I was the best thing that ever happened to you!” I laugh, bobbing my head. “I can’t tell whether you’re just that full of yourself and delirious or if you truly have a mental health concern.”

This is one of those reviews that are difficult to write because just about everything in a spoiler. I’ve read this whole series, and this book is more of a suspense than a simple romance. Mia has set actions into play that will affect Courtney and Drew’s lives. There’s a lot for them to deal with and the pressure is only mounting. Will they cave under all that stress? Their relationship has been rocky since the start-will Courtney decide she’s had enough and needs a break from the drama?

“We’re going to get through this,” I reassure her. “I know things have been rough lately, but there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to protect you.”

Meanwhile I loved the glimpses we got into Travis and Viola. There’s a total push/pull thing going on between Drew’s friend Logan and Courtney’s friend Kayla. (their story is next and I can’t wait-Logan is hiding a huge part of his life from everyone and I need that mystery solved!)

“He’s mysterious all right,” Kayla pouts. “Mysterious and confusing and has split-personality disorder.”

One of the things I like about this series is the introduction of the secondary characters-they’re woven into the canvass and then suddenly you want more of their story. I haven’t found myself bored yet from any of these books-up until now each couple’s story has bene a duet; the first ending on a cliff hanger. But the time in between installments is more than bearable and the stories remain fresh and unique.

No matter how much time we spend together, it never feels like enough.

5 "Loving you has and will always be Effortless" Stars!

The conclusion to my #Drewtney couple damn near brought me to tears! This is the type of swoony book that will make your heart beat out of your chest in EVERY aspect; including the exhilarating moments that have your stomach dropping. And not in the good way. Kennedy Fox can seriously do NO WRONG!

Also, anal.

From the very jump, Drew and Courtney are smacked with a dose of reality; the reality being, you must remember that sometimes your past is still right around the corner.

But Drew doesn't need his past to prove anything less than what he's always felt for Courtney...

"It takes me less than a second to respond. 'For Courtney? I'd risk everything.'"

And there's no question that Courtney feels 100% the same about her man. For as long as she can remember, it's always been Drew; from the moment she laid eyes on him.

But that doesn't stop everything their life is slowly becoming.

"The next few days were supposed to be about us--about Drew finding his normal--and now we've been slung into a cluster fuck of drama."

As the couple fights for what they have, the situation they find themselves in only heightens their love for one another.

"Drew has shown me what love is in it's purest form, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We go together like blueberries and muffin batter or as Drew would say, tofu and broccoli."

"I need Courtney in my life more than I need to breathe, and if I lose her, it'll be like losing everything."

And things were finally calming down and they were moving forward with their relationship.

But one thing you must remember...

"My head is pounding and my arms and legs feel too numb to even move. I let sleep take me because I feel powerless to do anything else at the moment."

...the past may still be lurking.

Your guard must always be up.

Because the past will ALWAYS find a way...
