We used this book a lot when we were traveling with the children to make sure we didn't miss anything along the way we might want to see because we didn't know about it. The book is arranged by section of the country. It also contains good maps of the entire country -- road and topographic.
Each section of the country is introduced with the proper sections of those maps, a list of plants, birds and animals to watch for, and some machinery one might see. These lists are, of course illustrated in color. Beside the road map which introduces each section is a list of states and the pages they are found on. For each state there are some suggested roads to take with the attractions one might want to see along the way labeled by number. Then these attractions are listed with descriptions by those numbers so you can see if you want to visit them. There are color photos for some of them. At the end is a general index and a city index.
This book is from the 80s and a lot of the information may be outdated - and i haven't seen any updated editions of this title - yet this title is a terrific resource on exploring the great vastness of the USA. With detailed road maps, stunning photographs and travel information this book covers the entire country. Even if you are not planning for a road trip across the USA, this is a great title to have as a coffee table reference book.
