Vic Onelasa is a half-black, half-Cherokee ex-gang member with a rap sheet long and varied enough to make his juvie officers shake their heads in dismay. He was heading for either prison or an early grave until he washed up at Diamond Bar Alpha Ranch's home for troubled LGBT youth and found a new purpose in life.
Angel Rathbone-DeBartolio is an up-and-coming young corporate exec, heir to one of the largest fortunes in the country. His world of helicopters, sports cars, fast women, and posh parties couldn't be further removed from Vic's life of dust, sweat, horses, and cattle.
When the two meet, neither one is prepared for the immediate attraction between them.
Vic's terrible life choices are largely a matter of public record. With Angel's past full of corporate scandal, parties, and one night stands, you'd expect him to be the one with skeletons hidden in his closet. But you'd be wrong.
Vic has one secret left. A secret that has sent every romantic partner he's ever had running for the hills. And when Angel stumbles across it by accident, Vic knows with complete certainty that he's about to lose the fragile new connection he's only just allowed himself to want.
USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.
A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.
That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.
I'd have rated this higher if the editing had been better, but there are a lot of copy edits that thew me off and I had to mark down for that reason.
I wasn't expecting the 'twist' in this one. It made this a much more interesting book for me. It wasn't something I've given a lot of though to and I'm sure there are those out there where this particular line means A LOT to them (representation and all).
I actually read the first book so I could read this book. It was not what I was expecting... I enjoyed it so much more than the first book though. The build up was so much more realistic. Although it did feel like tackling two topics at once for our leads was... a lot lol. It was a lot to sort through and I felt not enough time together. I did like the change of events and how it was treated with sensitivity. The ending was a bit like breaking hard in the middle of a rainbow and butterfly filled street though. o.o
Another excellent story with so much heart. This second book in this series was just as spectacular as the first. Such an incredibly talented written experience into the LGBTQ world. It gives so much insight into just how truly alike we all are no matter how different we are individually. These stories simply have to continue to be shared with the world hopefully so we can all better connect and understand each other in all aspects!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. It is the first I've read by both authors and I'd love to read others.
The book was full of passion, a couple of surprises and the characters were genuine. I only wished to find out more about Vic and Angel afterwards. Perhaps a sequel for these two? I'd love it!
I loved this book much more than I ever would have guessed, but the ending, as good as it was, felt like a cliff hanger with some issues left hanging in mid air. Like, what the hell about the neighbor?
I wanted to love this book. I really did. I was completely enticed by the blurb and the premise. There are just so many tropes going on in this that I felt none of them were fully explored and it jumped from one to another awkwardly. I love RA Steffan, but apparently I don’t love Jaelynn Woolf. Sorry. I’m not a fan of the Circle of Blood series that they co-wrote either.
