Book #2 in the Red Sky thriller series. ______________________________________ An ex-FBI agent in search of her past. A friend turned ruthless enemy. A mysterious agenda that must be uncovered at all costs…
With her life in shambles, the FBI’s newest Most Wanted fugitive, Quinn Turner, has no choice but to dive into her murky past in search of answers. But she quickly discovers she’s not alone: Strangers with questionable motives are about to make her life even more complicated.
For Xiao and Aaron, the search for Porter’s whereabouts have been slow and dangerous, but they’re determined to keep going. Unfortunately for them, the enemy doesn’t care what they want, and a latest strike by the Rhim splits up the team.
But it’s not all bleak: With the Rhim forced to take very public actions to keep their existence a secret, previously hidden factions are finally emerging, including someone who might just have the resources to be a game changer.
In book 2 of The Red Sky series, devils come in all shapes and sizes, but so do allies.
Full of interesting characters, lots of irony and sarcasm - and a surprise here and there. The one thing that bothers me (why I didn't give it my full 5 stars) is that the author makes way too much use of a writing trick. "What's going on?" "I'll tell you later!" and then never does or the person in the know dies before giving up much needed facts. Its a really good writing device to expand the story, and keep the suspense and interest going for the reader...but after reading 2 straight books of non-stop "I'll tell ya later" (and doesn't) it was just getting a bit tedious. I don't think writers realize sometimes that their own personalities and quirks sometimes flow through their stories, making the story easily identifiable as their own. The problem is when you read 2 books on a row. You know how a kid will do something that gets the adult laughing? And then keeps repeating it until the adult has to snap out "its only funny once!"? Thats what it feels like to the reader. And even good authors can be guilty of it - especially if they don't have an excellent editor. I just got through reading a series where everyone signaled their assent by "dipping their chin" instead of nodding their heads. It was the same thing...a really good and different way of describing a common gesture (head nod) with uniqueness. Except after reading 3 books on a row - I started wondering if maybe no one knew how to nod their head "yes" and could only dip their chins. I know I know...its the same thing, right? Ok, if its taught me one think reading too many books by the same author can sometimes turn into burnout. But if I wait a year...then I forget plots, characters, etc. I just can't win!!! So I'll keep reading...and if the worst thing the author does is become a bit tedious in describing something in a unique way...I'll be grateful and keep giving 4 stars and even 5 stars (since there is no 4.5 star).
Book 2 in this series is just as good as the first and the first was absolutely compelling. Sisavath, as a writer, just keeps getting better and better. His plotting, characterization, style, imagination, and sense of humor are what grab you and pull you into a story that you can't stop reading! Not to mention, the books are well edited, which is always appreciated by the reader. It's going to be a long wait until 2018 when the third book comes out. (Sigh.) NOTE: If you're looking for something to read in the meantime and you've never read Sisavath's Babylon series, do yourself a favor and pick up the first book. You will be hooked forevermore!
This book commanded my attention and I couldn't out it down. The action was nonstop and this series gets more intriguing as it goes. Quinn is a great character and full of questions that as a reader I want the answers as much as she does. If you like action, suspense, great characters, and routing for the underdog. Grab book 1 and join the fun!
Fast moving with many twist and turns. Another good one from Sam!! I don’t know how you keep your head clear with all those storylines running around. But it was easy to follow and surprise ending was great.
Haven't read anything I don't like by Sam Sisavath! I did see a few "errors"...(Sandy Baxter then Stacy Baker)...at any rate, it didn't stop me from enjoying every word of the book!
