It was a gift from a dear friend when my eldest daughter was expectantly expecting her little sister to be born... and she loved it! It made her absolutely trilled to receive her new baby herself... once again Miffy made her way to our hearts.
Aww, what's not to love about picture books with rabbits? In this story, Miffy is excited to have a little sibling, and it made a pleasant change to find a book for small people that is positive about becoming an older brother or sister. So many picture books on this theme seem to start with the older child feeling resentful or sad in someway, then having something happen to make them realise that maybe, just maybe, the new baby isn't the spawn of Satan after all. Such a shame to put the idea in to their heads in the first place, rather than starting out from a positive position. Bravo Miffy.
When I write, and really when I write poetry, I try to find very specific moments to capture. These moments string together emotions. For the reader here is connection through an intimate observation of the moments, and by reading them, we are interacting with them. So, with the written word, done well, we interact with the intimacy of others as if we, too, were also there.
Miffy and the New Baby. Amazingly wonderful and lovely. I felt the same joy and excitement as Miffy might've, expecting a new sibling. This was a brilliant story, extremely cute, and gorgeously illustrated.
