Kate Neilson #0.5

Winds of Hope: Prequel to the Kate Neilson Series

A beautiful ex-felon who’s had her fill of men. A crotchety old ranch hand who loved and lost. A busy, lonely rancher facing a difficult summer.

Marketing degree in hand, Kate Neilson leaves a Pennsylvania penitentiary and heads for an internship on a Wyoming guest ranch determined to live a better life, despite others’ attempts to drag her back into the pit.

Cyrus Moore, a longtime ranch hand embittered by the loss of women he once loved, vows to make life difficult for an “over-educated” new employee who resembles Susan, his daughter who left for college and never returned.

Tending the livestock and preparing for his guest ranch’s summer season, which begins soon, occupy a good portion of Mike Duncan’s thoughts and waking hours. Yet, loneliness plucks his heartstrings like a lost melody.

Winds of Hope is the prequel to the Kate Neilson Series, contemporary romantic suspense novels set on the Whispering Pines, a picturesque guest ranch. If you like engaging characters, vivid locations and high-octane action, you’ll love Winds of Hope and the other Kate Neilson stories that follow—Winds of Wyoming, Winds of Freedom and Winds of Change.

"Finding Hope in All the Wrong Places"

Rebecca Carey Lyles grew up in Wyoming, the setting for her Kate Neilson novels. She and her husband, Steve, currently live in Idaho (not to be confused with Iowa!), the beautiful state that borders Wyoming on the west. In addition to writing fiction and nonfiction, she serves as an editor and a mentor for aspiring authors. "Winds of Freedom" is the sequel to the award-winning first book in the Kate Neilson series, "Winds of Wyoming," and "Winds of Change," is the final book in a series that features female ex-prisoners and addresses human trafficking. The most recent addition to the series is a prequel titled "Winds of Hope."

Becky's articles and stories have appeared in magazines and compilations. Her nonfiction books, "It's a God Thing! Inspiring Stories of Life-Changing Friendships" and "On a Wing and a Prayer - Stories from Freedom Fellowship, a Prison Ministry," are heart-warming collections of true stories about individuals who've faced and overcome life's most difficult challenges.

One of her more enjoyable projects was to borrow fun and fascinating short stories from her critique partners - Valerie D. Gray, Lisa Michelle Hess and Peter Leavell - and compile them, along with several of her own short stories, in a book titled "Passageways - A Short Story Collection."

She has several ideas for future projects, but the one knocking hardest on the backdoor of her brain is a series about individuals trapped in controlled environments run by iron-fisted tyrants. Her books tend to have happy endings, so she'll be searching for the silver lining beneath that dark cloud of oppression - or maybe the rainbow at the end of the storm. :-)

Along with her husband, Steve, Becky hosts an entertaining podcast they call "Let Me Tell You a Story," which can be accessed through several podcast providers as well as her website: http:www.beckylyles.com/podcast.

Becky Lyles breathe life into Kate Nielsen‘s character. She truly is and becomes that transformed gal who was once in prison but now finds life and love and purpose. You really care what happens to her and the trials that lay before her but the best thing of all she’s got this victorious spirit that causes your faith to say—God can do anything even with a broken life and broken heart! The story shines forth that God is good even in the midst of great trouble.

Disappointing

I really enjoyed the first part about the lady who left prison and was on her way to a job in Wyoming. The second part
started out ok, but really, how much detail does a reader want about a dog and the kind of balm used on his paws? The details in the second part made me feel like the author thougt she could fill pages by repeating a bunch of boring information that didn't drive the plot. I have no desire to read whatever this was prequel to at all.

Kinda addling

The story starts out interesting enough, but then it switches off to another character, which is not so that unusual, but then another and another. I wanted to get back to the first one. Oh well, it is a series.

Incomplete

I am tired of buying a book only to discover it’s a short story with no way of getting the next in line. I enjoyed the prequel but don’t appreciate getting into a story with no way of reading the whole thing

Western Wyoming

Nice characterization for the emerging books to follow. I enjoyed the story, but there was lacking a mystery? Just wondered.

Read the original three books first, and then you will appreciate the prequel as it explains some backstory.
