In this sequel to 'Abi's House' Abi gets a new neighbour called Cass. She seems to be everything Abi ran away from when leaving London and her old life behind almost a year ago. But Cass has clearly some problems of her own..

Well, it was nice, I guess, but not overly adorable. Just like the first part, really. It was nice that Cass was basically a new main character, just like Abi and Beth and so on so none of them felt like a minor part in the story or something if that makes sense.

I also have to say that I didn't find as many mistakes as I did in the first book. Yay.

Hm, but there was something missing. I don't know, it just didn't feel lovely enough. Also at times I was a bit annoyed by the style of writing. For example: 'Sadie was snoring on the sofa. The retriever was very tired.' or 'Jacob did this and that blah, blah. The potter was very busy that day.'
You see what I mean? All of this explaing the person in the next sentence. I don't know how to describe this properly, but it sometimes felt as if it was written by someone fresh out of writing school who wants to desperately follow all the tips and advices. Well, no.

In the end everything came together quite nicely, though.

For me it's probably rather a 3.5 - 3.75 star rating, but as that's not possible...

In "Abi's neighbour", someone new moves into the house next to "Abi's house". A haha, surprise! The new neighbour is Cass, the type of woman Abi hoped to have left behind by moving to Cornwall. Sounds like problems are inevitable.

The trouble Cass was supposed to bring into town isn't as extreme as announced in the description. I'm glad, as I liked it way better than I  expected this way.

I also liked that it's still told from different points of view, like Abi or Beth's as in the first book. Just extended by Cass' POV.

Abi started off a little unreasonable and annoying. How dare people buy a house and then throw all scruffy old furniture out to decorate it in a way they feel comfortable with?!? So rude!?#! (As happening a few streets from my place at the moment.) How about that's none of your business?

Fortunately, Abi got back to being lovely and pleasant later on.

There was a little detective part in the story when Dora was uncovering Cass' dilemma. I enjoyed that a lot.

(And again, someone missed to proofread this book. Didn't you learn from your mistakes? Ha ha - obviously not. Wasn't as bad as in the first one, though.)

I absolutely adored this. Having recently read A Cornish Escape I was looking forward to seeing what my favourite characters were up to, and attend a wedding!

Abi is settled in her house in Cornwall and enjoying her new life. But then she has a new neighbour move in, and when Abi’s kindness is thrown back in her face, she realises that everything she tried to escape may be following her…. Cassandra is cold and rude to everyone she meets, and she hates the seaside! As her own story is unravelled, she finds herself unable to avoid the friendly locals and starts to soften. But will she be able to sort out her problems, and will she finally let her guard down and let Abi and her friends in?

At the same time, there’s a wedding coming up in a few weeks and preparations are taking place. But will there be good news for more than just one of our favourite couples? You’ll have to read to find out!!

I adored this! Jenny has such a fantastic, easy and enjoyable writing style that completely draws you in and immerses you in the story. The descriptions are absolutely fantastic, and it’s like you’re in Cornwall. I could see everything in front of me and smell the salty air – it was fantastic. And it really, really makes me want to visit Cornwall ( I say this every time but it’s true!!)

The characters are all relatable, amazing and loveable, and you can’t help but be fully invested in them all. We’re back with the characters we fell in love with in A Cornish Escape; Abi, Max, Beth, Jacob and my absolutely favourites, Stan and Sadie! It was so lovely to be back with them, it was like catching up with friends after lockdown!! We’re also introduced to some new characters. Cassandra, the cold and rude business owner from London, thrown into Cornwall unwillingly. At first, I really didn’t like her, especially when she was rude to Abi! But as you get to know her, and she meets everyone, your opinion will definitely change. Dan, the Care Home Manager is back. We met him briefly in A Cornish Escape, but he takes a more prominent position in this, and he is wonderful. He has a past that he keeps close to him, and its heartwarming to get to know him better. And finally, Dora……she’s in her eighties with a crazy zest for life and a past supposedly working for MI5….! She is brilliant…out of all the new characters, I adored her. She surprised me constantly, and made me laugh with her brilliant bluntness that only older people get away with!

The plot is beautiful, funny, heartwarming and constantly put a massive smile on my face. I was completely shocked at times, there were (wonderful) things happening that I definitely hadn’t expected and I’m so glad they did. Watching some of the characters grow is so amazing, despite what they go through, it will fill you with joy. And then there’s the wedding…..It was honestly like I was there at my friends wedding celebrating with them, I even cried at the speeches!!

I honestly can’t praise this enough. I absolutely, wholeheartedly adored this and would really love another follow up so I can visit my favourite characters again. You don’t have to have read A Cornish Escape to read this, it’s perfectly readable as a standalone as Jenny has put all the info in that you need. But if you haven’t read A Cornish Escape too then I would if I were you as it’s equally as amazing.

If you are looking for your next heartwarming, adorable and immersive read that will take you on a beautiful journey, make your face ache from smiling and make you feel like you’re in Cornwall, then this is for you. This is the perfect read to lose yourself in and come away feeling uplifted and happy. Honestly lovelies, if feel good is your thing, then you need to check this out!! Absolutely 100% recommended my me!!

Excellent sequel to Abi's House and I really hope this isn't the last we have seen of Abi and her friends.

Absolutely loved seeing Stan again, and this time with his new love interest Dora. What a lively pair of octogenarians they are, and Dora is by far one of the best characters in this book

Abi's new neighbour takes some getting used to, but I ended up really liking her. she is a Londoner, not a fan of the seaside and ends up in Cornwall under false pretences. As everything becomes unravelled I couldn't help but have a lot of sympathy but also respect for her.

Abi, Max, Beth and Jacob...well it was fabulous to see more from this foursome, I wish they were my own best friends. I felt instantly back at home with them, as though it hadn't been months since I read the first book.

Abi's Neighbour could be read as a standalone, and all the needed plot prompts are there so you aren't lost. However this works fabulously as the sequel it is meant to be, and its a very enjoyable story, that greatly entertained me.

Thank you to Accent Press for this copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A nice romance story

I thought this was a nice romance story which gently bowled along, keeping my interest all the way through. This is the second story Jenny has written about most of these characters, and she fits in enough backstory for everything to make sense without “information dumping”. I’ve not read the first one, but I picked it all up.

I thought the major characters were plausible and a good selection of “British” types. And varied - they included a teacher, a potter, a decorator, an Army veteran (turned care home manager) and an octagenarian former spy! I got a strong sense that Jenny’s familiar with the area the story’s set in, the far south-west of England. It’s not a travelogue, but gives a good flavour.

This book is a follow up to Abi's House but can easily be read as a stand alone. As always, Jenny Kane, transports you to a beautiful world of idyllic locations filled with interesting people that you would love to be friends with in real life. You truly care about these characters and feel invested in their lives and journeys. Another beautiful, heart-warming story that made me smile and lose myself in every joyous page.

A great summer read, transports you straight to rural Cornwall. I instantly associated with the characters, was interested in what happened to them, as though I was their new best friend. Can feel a trip to Cornwall to search for Abi and her tin miner's cottage.

I couldn’t wait to read this second book and my word what a warm read and the characters are all so friendly and realistic and you just want to read more to see what happens. The setting is brilliant and you feel you are there. Full of friendship settling in and making new friends weddings of course and romantic perfect summer read.
Abi is really settled in her house now and so grateful to Stan who is now living in assistant living but announces he’s getting married and in love again. Shows you are never to old to get married. Abi has a new neighbour move in and she’s so cold and clearly doesn’t want to be there and tries to stay away but realised she can’t and the more she gets to know everyone the more she relaxes and settles down. She’s got to learn to relax and forget her boyfriend who has no intention to leave his wife for her. She can’t believe how friendly abi and everyone is. Will they all be able to settle down and find what is right for them and be happy or not.

I received a copy of this novel from Goodreads in return for an honest review.

I'm not averse to a bit of chick-lit now and then, when it's done well it can be a light diversion for the brain. There were two main reasons why this book doesn't even rank as mediocre to me: Firstly, it is littered with grammatical errors which any decent proofreader would have caught in their sleep.

Secondly, and more importantly, the characters have absolutely no depth. I would have been quite happy if a sinkhole had opened up in Miners Row and swallowed the saccharine Abi and her equally sickly-sweet friends in the first 50 pages. Alas, they live to 'chuckle' and 'chorus' their way through another 300 plus pages of nonsense.

If you enjoy chick-lit then there are some great titles out there, just give this one a miss. Awful, simply awful.

Fabulous read

After reading Jenny's previous book I couldn't wait to get back to Cornwall and Abi's house. I wasn't disappointed. Love the characters and I felt like part of their little family. The scenery draws you in and makes you want to take yourself and your book to the beach and sit in the sand and enjoy the Cornish way of life.

Very much like if Enid Blyton wrote an adult book - everyone is very jolly and moving to Cornwall straightens out the bad manners of the newcomers - then they all have piles of hot buttered toast or scones with jam and lashings of cream

Finally setting into her dream house, Abi Carter now feels at peace and loving her new life in Cornwall. She has the most wonderful friends and an amazing boyfriend in Max.

The cottage next door has been empty for a while, then one day the new neighbour arrives. Haughty, snobby and lacking in any decency, Abi is thrown a curve ball when Cassandra shoots down in flames her attempt to give a neighbourly welcome. Abi fears that all she left behind in London has moved in next door, and its not nice.

Meanwhile, Cassandra feels like she has been dumped in the back of beyond. He married lover and lawyer promised to visit, but has suddenly done a runner, just as news that her business has been sold out from right under her nose. Can Cassandra manage on her own or will she swallow her pride and ask the neighbour for help?

Jenny brings back the Sennen gang for a second outing. Another bunch of characters that I would so love to be friends with. Do yourself a favour, pick up this book, get comfy and let the Cornish sun that shines off the pages warm you up and leave you craving Cream Teas and Fish Suppers on the beach.

Abi’s Neighbour by Jenny Kane
Well Jenny has been able to give us another fantastic book! Well I really love all of her books to tell you the truth. I am glad the see that all of the old gang in back in this installment and it wasn’t just about two new characters alone. The new character’s blend in so extremely well you would have thought they should have been with Abi’s crew the whole time. We have Cassandra who is trying to figure out what is really going on with her life with a certain man. What she really doesn’t expect is to fall for someone who she thought would never be on her radar. Now that she is away from the stress can she see what is really in front of her? Can Cassandra really handle the country life away from the big city? Will she find her true self? Abi’s Neighbor has all the answers for you. You will fall in love with all the characters again and grow to love the news ones too. I received this book from the author for an honest review.
