Works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Protestant theologian of Germany, concern Christianity in the modern world; for his role in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, people executed him.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer served as a Lutheran pastor. He, also a participant in the movement of Resistance against Nazism and a member, founded the confessing church. Members of the Abwehr, the military intelligence office planned his involvement, which resulted in his arrest in April 1943 and his subsequent hanging in April 1945 shortly before the end of the war. His secular view influenced very many people.

I love Bonhoeffer, but I didn't love this book. It is split up as small, one page devotionals to be read each day, which I don't believe does justice to Bonhoeffer's style of writing. He is too deep of a thinker to put into this format, without any context surrounding the one page sections, or room for him to run with his thoughts. If you don't have the patience, desire, or ability to really dive into his works, this is definately better than not reading him at all.

I really like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, his writings and his life. I think this book is a good start, but a collection of his sayings doesn't do him justice. I think the introduction of this book is well written and a good start for those not familiar with Bonhoeffer.
