When Jack meets Old Man Death coming toward his cottage, he stands firm. "You're not taking my mother!" he cries, and piles into Death with his fists. With each punch, Death gets smaller and smaller until Jack is able to squeeze him inside a hazelnut shell. He throws the nut far out to sea and goes home. Suddenly trouble eggs won't break, the cockerel's neck "unwrings" itself, and the butcher confesses that he can't slaughter any livestock. What has Jack done? Droll text and vivid watercolors enrich this traditional Scottish tale about learning one of life's basic truths. Cuando Jack ve al señor Muerte caminando hacia su casa, el niño le grita, "¡No te llevarás a mi madre!" Jack pelea con él hasta lograr que éste se haga cada vez más pequeño. El señor Muerte llega a ser tan pequeño que Jack lo mete dentro de una cáscara de avellana y lo tira hacia el mar. Pero de repente comienzan varios los huevos no se rompen, el cuello del gallo se "destuerce" solo y el carnicero confiesa que no puede matar al ganado. ¿Qué ha hecho Jack? La voz graciosa del autor acompañada por las ilustraciones hechizadoras enriquecen este cuento tradicional escocés que enseña a los niños una de las verdades más difíciles de la vida.

Un nen tanca al Sr. Mort a una avellana i es lia la cosa.

Tot el que sigui parlar de la mort als nens petits està bé perquè després es fan grans i els venen a 4t d'ESO a fer una xerrada de la Marató de TV3 sobre el càncer i, abans de començar, la meitat de la classe demana sortir de l'aula perquè els afecta massa i això em posa en la situació de dir que evidentment que poden sortir, que no obligarem a ningú a ser allà, però per dins no puc evitar pensar com un boomer de 800 anys que creu que les noves generacions són ridícules i de vidre i que si tinc tres pisos és perquè m'he esforçat molt i jo passo d'haver de fer front a aquestes contradiccions. Sí a la mort.

Maybe this would be helpful in a situation where you are trying to explain death to a child, but it just didn't appeal to me. the various attempts to murder farm animals are a bit much.
