I met a father one day in the library. His son isn’t in Kait’s kindergarten class but he goes to JB as well. He told me about reading French books to his kids to prepare them for immersion. I did notice his accent, but didn’t immediately place it as French Canadian and I had a moment where I wondered if maybe all Canadian parents read to their toddlers in French to give them a basis for school learning later.
The French mom I chat with at drop off and pick up tells me, no - he’s just French Canadian.
Thing is, in the meantime I’ve started borrowing French books from the library and using Duolingo to try and recall my own school French.
Maddie was the first to love this book. She excitedly attempted to repeat the French words and sentences. She’d pick it out of the pile each night. Kait was oddly resistant but got into it as we kept reading.
And Wyatt trying to read it, using only his year of high school Spanish as a guide to possible pronunciation was incredibly funny.
