Falling for Him

Rate this book
Doctor Gavin Addison’s marriage didn’t end on the friendliest of terms, and his estranged wife’s continual harassment has the local police visiting his home so often they’ve started calling him “the doc.” One of those cops, Officer Lex Turner, has a crush on the handsome doc, even though he knows there’s no chance the doc would ever consider dating a man.

A chance encounter on a crowded dance floor ends with both men in the same bed with the same woman—but with questionable results. When the doc wants to try that again, Lex becomes more involved than he’d dreamed possible as he helps his new friend navigate the kinkier side of sex. Knowing it’s just sex for Gavin, Lex finds it hard to keep his feelings hidden. But when Gavin finally figures out he has feelings for Lex that go beyond what a guy should feel for his buddy, will he let Lex convince him to take a chance with him—even if it turns both their lives upside down?

2.5 rounding up

"By the time their lips met, he was sure there was already brain matter leaking from his ears"

Bisexual cop Lex Turner meets straight Doc Gavin Anderson and after a weird, messy threesome, something starts between the two of them. Something, none of them is prepared for.

This is, above everything, a book about friendship. No, cross out that. This is a funny and sweet book about friendship and love, riddled with great quotes and hot sex.

"Oh holly shit! Lex had kissed him again! Gavin was confused because he'd maybe, kind of, somewhat, enjoyed it. What the hell was going on?"

Gavin, our Doc, is a lovable dork, stuttering included. He is going through a disastrous divorce and he meets -apparently cold- agent Cooper, while he has to deal with the humiliation his shitty ex wife is giving him.
One night, after some drinks, straightforward Lex, and naïve and inexperienced Gavin, end up in bed together sharing a woman.

Here is my Warning: I have some friends that don't appreciate M/F/M sex scenes in MM romance books. Well, here we have two of them and they are completely explicit. In my opinion, it's vital in the story. It's the way our MCs connect and feel each other for the first time, and the scenes are sexy as hell, too.
Personally, I enjoyed these threesomes a lot, and not only because I am super smutty, but also because I could witness Gavin's insecurities in his first time "with" a man, and how Lex wanted to be with him, more than with the -nameless for me- girl.
These scenes reminded me slightly of the first encounters in "Just a bit obsessed" by Alexandra Hazard, book that I loved.

What to say about our heroes?

Gavin is cute, sweet and naïve. He seems confused most of the time. He is a bit lost, clueless, and I liked his oblivious behavior even though I think it was a bit too much. Really, I don't know how Gavin made it through a marriage (with a malicious bitch, no less) or though life in general.

Lex, on the other hand, is strength where Gavin is weakness. He is a experienced man who has a crush on the doctor since the very beginning. He is a selfless and devoted son, a loyal friend and in Gavin's words "officer Turner, aka Lex, the God of awesome, kinky, threesome sex".
But he is also insecure. He doesn't want to hurt the doc and he is afraid of telling him, a straight guy, that he has feelings for him.
Lex is affectionate and very funny and my favorite person in this story.

"Are you, doc?"
Gavin was speechless, but Lex waited until he couldn't compose himself enough to speak.
"Are I what?"
"Not an English professor, that's for sure"

Together they are cute and scorching hot at the same time.

In my opinion, It's not easy to write good supporting characters, but Riley and Sheila (the friends) deserve a mention here. The couple was understanding and really funny. I enjoyed their interactions a lot. Quotes like: "So you gonna be gay now?" or "I'm never talking to you again if you give any details about you and that cooper having butt sex" had me reading with a smile on my face most of the time.

I really enjoyed the progressive transition from occasional threesome participants-to friends-to lovers.
I always get the most out of the slow burn, the flirt, the not knowing what to do, the clueless characters and the funny and entertaining dialogues and, dear readers,"Falling for him" by CL Mustafic has it all.

So, why I´m not giving this book more rating? Well, basically the reasons are two: It turned a bit too long (not boring, not at all, just long) on the second half and, also, I REALLY HAVE TO LOVE a story and its characters to go pass the 3 stars. It is not an easy task, and the author did a great job here, really good, and I am looking forward to read what comes next with CL Mustafic. If it is something near this one, I´m gonna love it!

Impressed! That's the word for how I'm feeling after finishing this wonderful, original story.

I've never read this author before. This may be her first novel outside of participating in an anthology. All I can think is WELL DONE!

This is a heartwarming romance unusual in that it features a bisexual MC paired with a repressed, seemingly straight MC.

Gavin is a 35 year old eye surgeon going through a nasty divorce.

Lex is a 30 year old police officer often responding to Gavin's many vandalism reports.

Gavin is in the middle of a brutal divorce when he meets officer Lex Turner. Gavin's ex wife causes enough trouble that the men see each other frequently during Gavin's multiple reports to the police.

Lex is taken by the gorgeous blond doctor right from the start. He holds a secret crush until they accidentally run into each other at a club.

One drink leads to three. One dance leads to a threesome. One drunk awkward night leads the relatively innocent doc to ask for a Mulligan.

“Yes, and I’ve decided I’m down for whatever. I will not freak out no matter what,” Gavin assured him. Riley’s exit-only comment flitted through Gavin’s mind, and he amended his statement. “Um, except for any type of penetration of my…um… you know… back there.”

Let the fun begin!!!

The two men are drawn to each other like magnets. Lex recognises his crush for what it is, but Gavin doesn't really understand his own feelings.
The realization that he’d just been walked to his car, after letting a man pay for his meal, made him roll his eyes.

I loved how this story developed and played out. There was no rush but a steady progression as Gavin discovered himself and Lex fell even deeper for his "doc".

You make me feel safe enough to show you my crazy.

Watching the self-discovery wrapped up in a beautiful love story was addicting.

We got to meet some wonderful side characters. All of whom had their own flavors and personalities. There were great friendships and family ties as well as some family ties that needed work by the characters.

I only had a few minor niggles: Gavin's ex, Cassie, was OTT crazypants. Her parents seemed too good to be true. Gavin's mom, and his relationship with her...ummm...I guess I shouldn't judge someone else's relationship with their parents. Last, but not least, I thought Riley's speech was incongruent with his age and profession. He spoke like a teen or early twenties guy would. If my doctor talked like that I'd run screaming from his office.

Honestly, I was carried away enough by the plot that the niggles didn't make a big impact.

4.5 stars for this beautiful and engaging romance.

I know my updates prolly lead people to believe that I hated this book. I didn't. I have two main problems with it and a few quibbles which I will get to in a minute, but for a first book it's really not bad. The plot is straightforward slice of life friends to lovers, one of whom discovers he's bisexual. On paper it sounded like it was meant for me.

Gavin is in the midst of a divorce and his soon to be ex-wife is a crazy ex which is how he meets Officer Lex Turner. I'm not a fan of the crazy ex-girlfriend plot device in general and it went on far too long for my tastes.

Furthermore, it leaks like a sieve. Not to jump too far off the diving board but she's pretty much always been a bitch on wheels and Gavin just fooled himself into believing she's misunderstood or some such nonsense. But this level of unhinged? I didn't buy that she could stalk and harass him for months on end without him taking more drastic measures to protect himself, like hiring a private investigator to get her prosecuted sooner or installing a security system or maybe acquiring a guard dog. She's a menace and her antics escalate to ridiculous levels taking her from villainous to caricaturish quicker than you can say Ice Queen. Her motivations for harassing Gavin in the first place are thin and most of this struck me as added drama for added drama's sake which these two did not need, but I'll come back to that.

Now Gavin... there's a part of me that pities him and part of me that wanted to nut punch him. He's wishy washy, temperamental and milquetoastish, a trifecta I'm not crazy about. His character and the relationship altogether felt very m/f to me with the coquettishness, abundant giggling and the crying.

I'm pretty sympathetic to a wide range of human emotions and I know everyone needs a good cry once in awhile especially when there are hurt feels but MOTHER OF GOD! I know. I know. I sound hella bitchy when I say that but at some point I thought he'd realize it's not a productive use of time. Of course he didn't and reading about Gavin's mantears and hurt feels wore me out.

His relationship with Lex is fraught with hurdles. One too many hurdles if you ask me. Gavin wends up in a threesome with Lex and this is how their relationship begins. So be forewarned m/f sex occurs on page. Being a fan of the ménage I found these scenes possibly the hottest of them all. Through these interludes Gavin realizes he's attracted to Lex. Then the troubles began. Communication issues, misunderstandings, Lex is not out at work, the crazy ex again and again, Gavin's mother turns out to be a bigot which led to more dramatics that didn't add up for me which led to yet another big misunderstanding and so on and so forth. So many external dramatics that were unnecessary. They had enough to deal with within their relationship, so all the external kerfuffles were superfluous and skirted the soap opera line.

I could go into all the specifics of why some of these things seemed fabricated, but I think it can all be summed up by saying this book is trying too hard. I completely understand the desire to be thorough as someone who's quite verbose herself. I also appreciate the lure of dramatics to keep the pace uptempo but sometimes less is more. Many of the conversations became monotonous, didactic and even preachy at times. There are details upon details of every single minute of Gavin and Lex's lives that killed the pace. Making it tighter would've gone a long way towards making it a more successful read for me.

There are sweet and heartfelt moments between them and through the dual POVs it's clear they both care for the other and want to make it work. The author did a good job of fleshing out these characters as well as some of the secondary ones. The sexual chemistry is there, though I found some of the sex scenes somewhat awkward.

I have read, and quite liked, the short story by this author so I think much of this is firstbookitis. I would read something else by her and I would encourage anyone interested to go for it. If you like Gavin I think the read will be more successful for you than it was for me.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, I don't know what to say about this book. I didn't really like it; the story was just very unbelievable and at times didn't make sense. The story begins with Gavin getting yet another surprise from his soon to be ex-wife in the form of her slashing 2 of his tires. It's obvious this isn't the first time something like this has happened and the police are very familiar with Gavin's situation. Lex is one of the officers who - with his partner - often responds to Gavin's 911 calls. We know that Lex is attracted to Gavin but is too shy and tongue tied to talk to him so he lets his partner do most of that.

I was going to start with the things I had a problem with in this story, but decided to switch it with what I liked, or thought was well done.

1.) I liked the fact that Gavin and Lex didn't just fall into bed together. Lex has a crush on straight Gavin, and one night at a club, Gavin is dancing with a woman and Lex kind of just moves into them and starts to dance too. It's very sexual and obvious Lex has a plan in mind, and the woman is into threesomes (she's had them with Lex before) and encourages Lex. We see that Gavin is uncomfortable with Lex dancing and he is unsure of where to put his hands. This whole situation rang true. Awkward, uncomfortable, unsure, but not so turned off to just walk away. Likely due to the fact that Gavin doesn't want to be rude. :)

2.) When the threesome finally makes it to the ladies home to have sex, Gavin is still unsure of the plan. He hesitates to get undressed, has to be led on where to put his hands, how to lay, what to do. Eventually things progress, and I personally thought the threesome went well. (But what do I know because the woman was all pissed after.)

3.) I found it hilarious that Gavin couldn't stop thinking about that night and demanded a mulligan. Seriously, he wanted a do-over to prove to Lex and the woman that he wasn't a dud. LOL. The 2nd time went better (I guess) and the woman said she would have a threesome with Gavin any time. I just had to laugh at that because, really? I can't put into words how that all made me feel. Just hilariously dumbfounded.

And now to the things I didn't like, or had issue with.

1.) Gavin is getting a divorce from his cheating ex-wife. Said ex is really a psycho bitch who, even though she is the party at fault, is taking out revenge against Gavin for some reason that is never explained. If she didn't want to lose him, trashing his house/car/etc is not the way to get him back.

2.) After the ex has done so many horrible things to Gavin , he still doesn't change the locks on the doors, change the garage door code, get an alarm system, put in cameras, hire a PI to track her so she can be caught red handed. Nope, he does none of that and so to point 3 below...

3.) Why can the police not do something about the ex-wife defiling Gavin's house? Is there not cause to get a restraining order? So what if they don't have photographic evidence (see point 2 above - seems like a no-brainer solution to get said evidence - I really hate stupid and clueless MCs), shouldn't this go before a judge or something to determine what can be done? And Gavin's lawyer is like the MOST unhelpful person EVER!!

4.) The police (Lex and his partner, etc.) are all like, sorry man, that bitch is crazy, but we can't do anything. Umm, how about recommending he put in security system, cameras, movement sensor lights, etc. Yeah, Gavin is a doctor, I think he can afford to do all of that. I don't think I would want Gavin as my doctor as the guy can't seem to use logic (cause and effect...vandalism = security system).

5.) Gavin. I had a real problem with HIM. Like I said, the dude is a doctor, and going through all that schooling and training is not for the faint of heart. So why is he sobbing like a baby to the police for the things his ex is doing to him? Literally, sobbing. OMG, grow a pair and take ACTION, dumb ass. When these things with his ex first started, he didn't want to press charges because he still luuuuved her. Really? Are you kidding me? All I can say to that is, WOW.

I could go on, but I think I've made my point. And if you decide to read this book, whatever I didn't mention I will just let be a surprise for you. ;)

This book was a lovely surprise, was not expecting much but ended up loving it. Loved both MC's and how totally different they were in personality. I loved how the story flowed, you actually get to see Lex and Gavin be together and how they handle their relationship and life's challenges. This I appreciated, that most of the book was not spent on Gavin ducking and diving and in the end wanting to be with Lex(Like in a lot of books)at the same time it was not unrealistic instant thing, they had some time to get there.

Gavin at times did bone headed things but he was able to have awareness of his shortcomings, reach for his support system and make amends, I especially liked him for this reason. The Only thing annoyed me was Lex nickname for Gavin (Doc)why why!, other than that this was a fantastical read.

I'm not sure how to write my review for this book...

I think I'm going to split the book in two parts (first half and second half) and review them separtely because it actually felt as if it could be two books. That was not so much because of the length of the book but more because of the content and writing style.

The first part:

The begining of this book was amazing! The characters and the plot were strong and made you want to read and read and read and never put it down. The reactions felt real and believable and the drama meter was pretty low which is something I like.

Gavin was making a fresh start in his life after deciding to divorse his wife and was discovering some new things about himself with Lex's help. His ex-wife was a bit crazy but I could believe she would do the things she did. Gavin's best friend, Riley, and his girlfriend, Sheila, were great and really fun both in their interactions as a couple and separately.

Lex was really patient and waited for Gavin to realise what it was he wanted from their friendship. He didn't push him for more than he was comfortable and compromised with whatever Gavin wanted their relationship to be like.

That was for the first half of the book and I would have been happy if it ended there.

The second part:

Now the second half was actually a lot different. The drama was over the top and it was practically everywhere. Gavin became very emotional and cried for a lot of reasons. There were a lot of tears and misty eyes in this part.

It felt weird because the first half wasn't like that and it was actually a very good read up until that point.

I won't go into details about what the drama involved because I don't want to spoil it but it was too much for me. Gavin's ex-wife bacame evil and we never actually learnt weather that's how she always was and Gavin was just blind to it or if she somehow transformed during the last months of their marriage and the reason behind that if that's what happened.

There were a few other aspects and character behaviors that never really went anywhere even though they could have been the beginning of something for the story.

I want to say again that all those things are about the second half of the book.

The first half deserves five stars without any thought but I'm going to give the second half three stars, so all in all it's a four star read for me.

This started off fairly well for me. The two men meet because Gavin's ex is harassing him and Lex is one of the police officers that answers the calls. They then run into each in a bar and proceed to have a threesome with a woman Lex knows.

My first complaint came shortly after this. It jumps ahead to a few months down the road and we find out they've been having threesomes together during this period. I didn't expect each scene to be shown but I was bummed that we didn't see their friendship develop. One chapter they barely know each other and then the next they're close friends. As a result, when they start talking about how much they care for each other it felt a bit insta-lovey to me.

Another issue I had was I didn't care for Gavin. He was very sensitive and almost fragile. I couldn't relate to him at all. I felt he was immature and I had a hard time buying that he was an adult man with a marriage behind him and a career that requires a lot of decision making. Some of the decisions he made in regards to his crazy ex and his parents was just beyond my comprehension. (Speaking of his ex & parents, I'm also a bit tired of the crazy ex and the overbearing, unaccepting mother tropes.)

On a positive note Lex's mother and a female friend of theirs were both really positive, well done female characters and I liked them a lot. I liked Lex's character for the most part and I loved Riley, Gavin's best friend. He didn't at all seem like a doctor, he came across like a dude-bro, but he was super funny. Riley said things like:

"Maybe you just gotta own it, bro. .........If you wanna be a kinky fucker, you go on and be the best kinky fucker you can be."

My biggest issue though was the plot was too drama filled for me. There was just a ton of stuff going on. First relationship w/a guy, crazy ex, unaccepting parents, job issues, and a few more things related to the ex and the job. It was like a soap opera. And, it also included my biggest pet peeve ever, the problem that didn't need to exist if two people just communicated. I have a hard time buying two people who rely on good communication in their jobs couldn't carry even a smidge of that over to their relationship. The last drama of the book was simply absurd to me and honestly annoyed me to the point that I almost dropped another star off of my rating based on that alone. (& is why I rounded down on my rating instead of up) I would have enjoyed this a lot more if the author would have just focused on one or two of those things and developed the two guy's relationship more.

Overall this was just an average read for me. It felt a bit long since I wasn't enjoying all the drama. The quality of the writing was fine and there appears to be a lot of positive reviews on this book. I recommend you check some of them out too.

Dr Gavin Addison is going through a difficult divorce. Though he caught his wife cheating on him, she is now trying to make his life a misery through acts of vandalism. Lex Turner is a bisexual police officer who has been called to Gavin’s house frequently to take reports on the vandalism. He not only feels sorry for the very nice ophthalmologist, but is also attracted to him. However, he knows better than to crush on a straight guy. One night they meet at a club and end up in a threesome. That night changes Gavin’s life and how he thinks of himself. He and Lex strike up a friendship that slowly becomes more.

I’m pretty impressed by this new-to-me author. She has written two solid characters who I could feel in the story. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that there is a MFM scene in the book (it’s in the blurb!). Some MM romance sticklers may end up staying away from this, but to me it made sense in the storyline as Gavin had always considered himself to be 100% heterosexual until he met Lex. My major niggles in the story were regarding length - honestly I felt like it could have been paired down slightly - and the over the top ex-wife character. In addition, Gavin’s parents were just a bit too much. Though I liked the slow-burn of the romance, the miscommunications were tough to soldier through. And a small nitpick - I’m not sure if the author is in the medical field or not, but there were some details that seemed a little off, and it made it hard for me to really see Gavin as a real doctor. Overall, I did like this story, and I look forward to seeing more from this author.

Emotional Roller coaster

I was given this ARC by Indigo in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I do not usually read these types of books and was pleasantly surprised.

This author had my emotions going crazy. One minute I was crying, then I was laughing. It was great.

Doc is a breath of fresh air with his sweet innocence and Lex is just so damn sexy and loving and hot hot hot.

For some reason it didn't feel real to me that Gavin was a doctor. It just never sunk in I guess.

Jean is wonderful and Riley, I think he was my favorite. The friend you can count on to tell it like it is, in his own way while his patient wife Sheila loves his silly antics as much as she tries to pretend otherwise.

There are a few characters in this book that I would like to throttle. Mona, for goodness sakes woman, let go and let your adult son be a man. Roger, get some balls.

I thought this was a great read and depicted a well written, realistic coming out.

Love the front cover!

First things first. A PSA...
There's girly sex in this book. (Twice on page and more off page that is alluded to) Not my favourite thing in an mm book but I can live with it. However I know many readers will avoid this book completely because of it. So, I give you fair warning.

I do wish authors would stop portraying ex-wives/girlfriends as vindictive, bitchy arseholes.
Believe it or not some woman are nice. Caring and supportive even.
It would be really good to read about one of them for a change.

I found the change in Lex, from someone so tongue tied in front of Gavin he doesn't speak, to the confident 'lets have a threesome' dude far to quick and unrealistic to be believable.

There is so much drama in this book! It's one thing after another and it's all so unnecessary. It felt like a long arsed book and I switched off several times.
Then of course there's 'The Great Miscommunication' soooo not my favourite thing.

Gavin comes across as... I want to say weak but that seems harsh. He's so sensitive and indecisive and delicate. What with him blowing hot and cold and all the too-ing and fro-ing from both of them got on my nerves and the running away every time things got a bit awkward is so juvenile.
I liked Lex more. He's a good character but he changed so much, so quickly it just didn't ring true.
He also spent a lot much time smirking and every time he said 'Eh, what's up Doc?' All I could damn well hear was Buggs Bunny!!!!

The bat shit crazy ex storyline, which was everything, the whole damn kit and kerboodle in the beginning, was just dropped for several (months) and chapters. I've no idea if it's reintroduced later on because I just didn't care enough about the characters to carry on reading.

DNF at 48%.

Whew! I'm done reading and I love it. This author made a good first impression for me. The story had a nice flow to it. I appreciated that the author didn't shy away from the fact that the characters are bisexual. The miscommunication was unreal but glad they acknowledge that they really need to work on it. The level of craziness that Gavin's ex displayed was mind blown and for petty reason.

Overall, it is a good first full length novel. I hope the author produce more work in the the future. I would love to read more.

3 Stars

C.L. Mustafic is a new-to-me author. I was completely captured by the blurb, curiosity getting the better of me, and I couldn't wait to read Falling for Him.

Gavin is struggling during a bitter divorce battle, but it's not the battle itself that's the problem. His cheating wife of 10 years is stalking him, vandalizing property, and defaming his character. The doctor is doing all he can, calling the police and noting what has occurred and when to create a timeline. But it's not enough. The police can't seem to have enough evidence to arrest the wife.

***Still confused at the start how a person couldn't be arrested for stalking/vandalism/received half the value of a home they didn't own after cheating on their spouse. There were security cameras in the hospital, but the detectives were too defective to check them to tie the ex to the slander, which is a civil case but would have influenced the divorce... just saying none of this added up. While it propelled the plot, it was unrealistic, illogical, and OTT. SMH. An educated doctor was too dim to change the locks on his own home to protect it after months of harassment? The maturity levels and behavior didn't match the age/profession/speech patterns. Gavin's actions/reactions didn't fit the character trait profile.

In walks in Lex- Officer Turner is a bisexual man, who's both intrigued by the good doctor and feeling empathetic to his plight. He's trying to pin the crimes on the guy's ex, all the while trying to get into his pants. Maybe if he tried harder at his job, above wouldn't make them all look inept.

For those who don't wish to read girly bits in their MM romance, be forewarned. There are menage scenes featuring MFM. That's my thing, but it might not be something you enjoy.

The guys were fun together, the romance light, but the frustration of the too many plots was too much for me. I was frustrated most of the time I was reading as it pinged all of my major pet peeves.

The premise of Falling for Him was great. However, the execution wasn't to my tastes. The flow of the writing was wooden, too proper and polite to flow fluidly or sound realistic. Maybe it was the perspective it was written in, or how the dialogue would either be too proper or too juvenile (Riley, A DOCTOR, spoke like a middle school boy), which had a whiplash effect on me, because in a sea of proper and polite, the locker-room-esque talk glared from the pages. This made it very difficult for me to fall into Falling for Him, because it pulled me from the story.

I will not apologize for my following commentary. As a feminist, a pet peeve of mine was on the pages- the way all women were portrayed. A mentally unstable, clingy mother. Homophobic mother. Even the best friend's wife was overbearing. A crazy, cheating, abusive, criminal ex-wife who gets away with it. A threesome partner, who after-the-fact acted like a total nutjob (he had to buy her flowers and apologize? WHAT?) when during the scene itself, no one seemed to be uncomfortable, not into it, or acting insulted. This also was jarring for me to read. As a female, I don't wish to be insulted on most pages of a novel. Yes, there are women who behave like that- BUT it shouldn't be every negative stereotype displayed by ALL the women in the novel, to hit home how were are inferior as a gender and explain away why two bi characters fall for each other. Gavin & Lex can lust/love each other because they do, as it has no bearing with who they do/don't lust/love, so I don't see why it always has to be at the expense and disrespect to females. Women are so crazy and clingy, I'm going to date men- no, you date men because you date men.

Thankfully, this storyline just dissolved into the background, so it was no longer a focal point to rub me raw, leaving room for the guys to come together.

Moving forward into their relationship, another pet peeve of mine hit: MISCOMMUNICATION. A cop & a doctor, both professionals who rely on communication to do their jobs, both older, one married for 10+ years, I find it incomprehensible why they didn't just communicate. This was not a suitable plot device for these characters.

There was just too much going on, and it was at the expense of the entertainment factor for me- seemed unfocused and chaotic. To be honest, I was rubbed wrong and frustrated for the entirely of the read. I was obviously not the intended audience. MM romance readers, who don't mind lady bits in their MM, will probably enjoy the story, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is quite a quirky read - with some really off the wall elements. At its heart is a really rather lovely romance, which develops in a non linear fashion, and makes you think about the choices that life gives you and the ones that you unconsciously avoid.

Most of the scenes with Gavin and Lex, I enjoyed. Their relationship starts in a pretty unconventional manner - certainly not one I have read before in an MM storyline, and seemingly used more to indicate mental state than physical choice. But the guys are cute together, even if they fail to tell each other some of the basics - part of this I allowed to pass, as they are new friends, but sometimes I wanted to remind them how to communicate.

When everyone else got involved, it got confusing. I think Riley was the oddest to place - if I had not been told he was a doctor, I would have never, ever guessed. He was seriously immature, and only toned down by his wife. That said they were supportive during the mad incidents caused by his ex-wife - who surely needed to be declared mentally unstable at the first act, let alone the fifth/tenth etc. And let's not get started on Gavin's mother ...

I have a weird feeling that this would work better on the screen than the page - with some dialogue issues resolved. It think it had a very visual sense of humour, and nuance could have been gained by seeing what they were doing, rather than just reading about it (and I am thinking of the non-sexual content!).

4 Stars

A new to me author, so I generally go in not expecting to much, but hoping all the same. This time my hope paid off as I very much enjoyed this story. Yes their were things that generally don't work for me in my mm stories, but the characters got to me enough it pulled me through what I didn't like and made for a great read. I loved these guys, watching them fall in love, accept themselves and get through each obstacle to only be stronger.
I won't go in to to much plot, the blurb basically says it all. The two meet because of Docs psycho ex wife, and I mean she is a real crazy, manipulative, cruel and vindictive person. They eventually hook up via a threesome (yep their is girl sex in this book. 2.5 times. Not my thing at all when I want to read a mm book, but I floundered through and am glad I did, and it isn't long before it's just the two of them, by the second half it's full steam ahead for just the boys.) Doc freaks, wants a redo and from their the boys become fast and close friends. Doc embraces his new found sexuality, they go through the usual trials and tribulations of coming out, family drama and personal drama. What I didn't like so much (other than the threesomes and Docs doormat attitude with the ex) was how needy Doc was. He came across as a whiny pubescent girl at times. He was insecure and horribly immature on occasion, not at all like a 35 year old doctor. I prefer my men to be a bit more manly and less needy. Sure emotions are good to, but his were over the top and his behaviour and words sounded ridiculous on page. Then we have the big communication problems at the end. Stupid decisions, snap reactions, not talking. It's immature and drives me mental. It didn't last long, but it still angers me when everything could be avoided with a conversation, you know that thing ADULTS do. As I said it was only a small part, but it was just over the top in how it all went down.

My review probably doesn't give the book much justice, as it really was enjoyable and a fantastic debut for the author. I would absolutely read more by this author, and can definitely recommend this one.

4 1/2 starts

I really enjoyed this story. It started out kind of rocky for me, but I once I got into it I didn't want to put it down. I loved Lex and Doc/Gavin. I thought Lex was so patient and understanding with Doc when most people would have given up. Doc in some ways was very child like, his parents didn't seem like they were parents of the year and his ex-wife was a total nut case. The things Doc's ex-wife did would have landed me in jail because I would have killed her. The sex scenes were good, some hotter than others, there was M/F/M in this book so if you don't like that you are forewarned. I loved Lex's mother and then Riley and Sheila, they are super great friends. The chemistry with Lex and Doc was good and their relationship progression was believable. I laughed and I cried while reading this book and I will be putting it in my "read again" pile.

Falling for Him (ARC) was graciously provided to me by IndiGo Marketing & Design for an honest review.

"Doctor's Prescription..Take a Deep Breath and Follow Where Your Heart Guides You"

Falling for Him, by CL Mustafic, is an amazing story. It's a story filled with incredibly powerful emotions that take both of its main characters through a deep and soul-searching journey of reflection to ultimately come to a decision that will affect them forever.

Gavin Addison is a kind, sensitive, straight-laced, well-liked, good-looking, dimpled physician with a huge heart that makes me just want to give him such a big and squishy hug. Gavin is going through a severely difficult time in his life, and, because of this, is slowly crumbling as the days progress. Through a series of related events, he befriends Lex Turner, who enables him to open his eyes to something that has been buried so far down deep in Gavin's psyche, that it takes him quite a while to discover and understand just how important that initial meeting of Lex really was.

Lex Turner is a kind, slightly insecure, strong, determined, caring, and good-looking police officer who is secretly attracted to Gavin, and wishes to protect him from the darkness which is trying to drag him down inch by inch through no fault of his own.

Wow.....what an incredible story! This was my first book from this author, and, I went into it practically blind. I saw the beautiful cover, and with very little information from the blurb, I went in, and, jiminy cricket..am I glad that I did! It's theme is powerful.. And I mean POWERFUL. It's real. It's necessary. It is one that elicits immense and ever-changing waves of compassion, happiness, pride, laughter, joy, love, sadness, and a whole lot of heat.

Love . Love is a mighty and multi-faceted entity. It's seemingly warm, tender, and comforting arms very often will draw you in and provide a much-needed comfort necessary for survival, during the infrequent times when someone else turns that love into something dark and malicious by going down a relentless and dingy road filled with destruction. It was during one of these times that the recipient of such darkness gravitated towards a much needed source of light. And that was Gavin on his needed for Lex. Gavin craved and soaked in all of the love which radiated from Lex. There were many such times when I just sat with my mouth agape with shivers running up and down my spine due to the magnitude of everything that Lex and Gavin were going through. I felt it. Ultimately, boy, did I feel it.

While I feel that the overall structure of the story was fine, albeit the existence of a couple of somewhat confusing parts, I feel that there were times where I had wished that the reader would have been able to read what had happened, instead of such scenes occurring behind-the-scenes. I enjoyed the secondary characters, some more than others, and cherished their strong friend and family values.

I also believe that words are so important when trying to draw the reader into a story, so, for this reason, I really want to feel what the characters are feeling. During this story, I feel that there were times that I had wondered as to the true connection between the two men. Sometimes I felt more of this only from only one of them rather than both. However, once I reached a certain part of the story, it was like the gates burst and I was bawling like a baby from the depth of their emotions. I had discovered that once I had truly unearthed who both of these men were, a large and bright and beautiful picture filled with birds chirping while the sun rose over the horizon had shown itself.

Through admiration, protection, love and incredible strength, Gavin was finally able to develop his own unwavering strength and love to be able to live his life as he would like to live it. He was in control, finally. It was during these times of revelation and strength that I found myself cheering loudly, and will admit to have pulled quite a few strong and mighty Arsenio Hall air fist pumps...for him. For them both. Even though I had sometimes wondered how, despite being two very intelligent individuals, how they could come up with such thoughts and decisions, I had cheered for them both. Boy, did I cheer. And LOUDLY.

I do believe that Gavin summed it up beautifully..

"I found someone attractive, both in personality and physically, and that attraction turned into love. The fact that that person just so happens to be male, is irrelevant in my mind; love is love is love."

..and this, this is love . Love is this emotion which proves to be such a comforting and empowering thing that enables individuals to flourish and grow into such strong, amazing, and wonderful human beings. I am in so much awe as to the beauty of Gavin Addison and Lex Turner's souls, and, I'm so glad I read their story, because..it's a powerful one. :)

I’m so happy I got to review Falling For Him and discover a new author, especially when I find myself in a story well written and engaging like this one. I wasn’t so sure of reading it cause mfm scenes are not for me, but the blurb was too good to pass.

Infact I want to make a little premise. I tried and failed at reading the mfm scenes, I had to skip them so I actually had no clue what and if something really happened between Lex and Gavin (apart from the obvious). It’s my limit and I had not considered them in my rating, cause it’s my fault since I knew the scenes would have been there and I still decided to pick the book.

I love stories like Falling For Him. As you can understand from the blurb, Gavin is going through a very bad time and things will become impossible to live if it had not be for an incredible and well developed second characters cast. Sheila and Riley are the friends all of us should have, supporting and ready for fight for Gavin. And then there is Lex’s mum, Jean, a mother to whom life has taken a daughter and she is surviving a grief so deep just for the love of Lex. All these were real characters, persons I could identify with. Especially with Lex and how much he, and then Gavin, cares for him mum.

I’m very impressed by this new author, in my opinion she developed a solid novel, in the plot, in the cast, in the writing. Falling for Him is a story about love, friendship, it’s sweet and warm. I’ll keep my eyes open for more release from C.L. Mustafic.

I love everything Natasha Snow designs and this cover is no exception, it’s simple, fitting and the font and colors are amazing.

His name is Lex.... it's not short for anything.... just Lex. His middle name is Luthor (which we find out nearing the end) HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT! Geeze, the details people, are everything to me!

Here we have a very put together Doc who is facing quite a nasty divorce with a vindictive soon to be ex wife. He tries to be nice, he tries to understand as much as possible but the lady is crazy and the police had to get involved on several occasions. Enter "Jock" cop, Lex. To the Doc Lex seems quite reserved, and maybe stoic. But in reality (fictional reality lol) Lex is super attracted to the tall blonde Doc.

After many incidents and police visits....and lawyer visits, his divorce to the psycho is final and he goes out to celebrate, there when he finally is all up on a hot girl, Lex joins the party and is determined to influence a threesome (like he's had many times with the said woman Doc was about to leave with) for the soul purpose of living out his fantasies of being with the Doc, in anyway he could.

The threesome is awkward to say the least and leaves both men feeling a bit weird. Lex feels he was pushing it for selfish reasons (which, admittedly he was) and the Doc's ego is bruised only because he wanted to impress Lex (his underlying attraction coming to the foreground) instead of coming across as a bumbling virgin.

Several weeks after his feelings of inadequacy are amplified instead of dissipated so he reaches out to the Cop, hoping for a repeat so he can prove himself. Lex is thrilled to receive a call for a repeat and thinks of it as a second chance to be with the man of his dreams. He goes out of his way to set it up and things take off hot and steamy from there.

Lex now is unsure of showing his true feelings for Doc for he believes the Doc is just exploring and is straight. The Doc doesn't know how to deal with his growing attraction to Lex or if Lex could want to try a relationship with him particularly outside of the threesomes.

We have a dance, tango if you will, of mix ups , pushing and pulling etc. Meanwhile we get a true picture of the Doc and his relationship with his best friend Riley, which should have given Doc the first clue he was capable of more than just bromance with a guy, he had the potential to love men in the same way he could love women. (I absolutely loved Riley and his wife to pieces).

The comings together and falling apart are what I loved, the ups and downs, ins and outs. Everything was great and I enjoyed it all. A great read and wonderful story about two bisexual males finding love with each other. Acceptance, coming out, maturing and everything in between.

Solid 4.5 stars!

This story gripped me from the very first page. Gavin was easy to love and Lex was someone you would like to meet one day. While both had drastically different personalities, they both worked well together - even when they weren't meant to!
Gavin is dealing with an ex-wife who is trying to make his life miserable and Lex is the police officer who begins to fall for him.
One of the best things about this novel is the topic of sexuality. Both men are obviously bisexual - showing an interest in being with both men and women - and it's great to read a novel that taps into that! Sometimes bisexual men are left behind in lgbt+ books, so this novel was perfect for breaking down the barriers in modern literature.
The story had me engaged from beginning to end and the sexual scenes were so diverse. I never knew what I was going to read!
This author has made a great point in bringing characters to life and having them tell the story to the reader.

The blurb pulled me in, but it was clearly the wrong book for me. I can add whiny, indecisive, child-like MCs to my list of hard limits. (No bueño, y'all.) If parts of this book hadn't been hysterically funny, finishing it would have been impossible.

***MINI-RANT WARNING***

Gavin annoyed the crap out of me. I kept wishing I could slap him and make him grow a pair so he would act like the intelligent, well-educated man he was supposed to be. I can appreciate a sensitive guy, but his constant crying (real tears y'all) and pouting was over the top IMO. How Lex tolerated his behavior through most of the book boogles my mind. LOL!

On a more positive note, I appreciated the way the author handled the topic of bisexuality. She made it clear that the MCs identified as bisexual, not gay, and they fell in love with the person not the gender. Love is love!

Doctor Gavin is going through a nasty divorce, and by nasty I mean NASTY. Dog poop smearing, stalking, ruin your reputation, set your house on fire kind of nasty. And that's his wife doing that. Enter Officer Lex, one of the police officers assigned to Gavin's case. The attraction he feels for the shy doctor is pushed away, until a certain night where the two of them see each other at a bar and things take an interesting twist. Can Gavin overcome his past to possibly have a brighter future, or will it all go up in flames?

This is a slow building love story, with likeable characters. You can feel their emotions as you watch their stories unfold, and you connect with them as it's not a wham bam, thank you ma'am. If you are looking for a quickie with no story, this isn't for you. Be prepared for a journey, cuz that's what you are going to get.

I loved this book. I don't know why I took so long to get around to it. The story was interesting, seeing the growing connection between these two men and what it means for their lives. I felt like the characters were really fleshed out and realistic, and the plot kept me reading with really great interest. She handled the questions of sexuality with great skill and aplomb. I look forward to the next book by C. L. Mustafic.

This story is so much more than a romance. Between great moments of mischief and mayhem that Gavin's ex wife seems to throw out there are some very touching and heart melting scenes; and not all of them between the two MCs.

I really enjoyed reading this story. This was my first story of CL's that I've read but it won't be my last.

3 Hearts

This is one of those I didn’t hate it/I didn’t love it but when I truly sit down to think about it the things that I didn’t like stand out in my mind more than the things that I did like. CL Mustafic is a new to me author and I thought this first book was well written with an interesting plot line. There were just a few things that just didn’t make sense, in my opinion. I liked the characters but the situations they found themselves in were just unbelievable to me. The threesome, the do-over, the almost immediate attraction/relationship, the homicidal ex-wife that kept getting away with her crimes, the radically homophobic mother, the pushover father…I just don’t know if it was too much or too much that just didn’t work for me, personally.

Dr. Gavin Addison is going through a difficult divorce from his crazy ex-wife. All he really wants is the divorce to be final so that he can move on. But he’s continually calling the police because of all the harassment he’s experiencing. Convinced that he needs a night out by his best friend Gavin hits the bar where he winds up taking not only a woman to bed but a man as well. And the man isn’t some stranger. Gavin immediately recognizes him as one of his responding officers to the many calls he’s made in regards to his ex-wife’s harassment.

Officer Lex Turner is an out and proud bisexual man and he can’t help that he’s crushing on Gavin. When the opportunity arises for them to hookup Lex jumps at the chance.

Lex and Gavin have a bumpy start of it…Gavin is really just awakened to another part of himself that he had no idea existed so coming to terms with that and his blossoming feelings for Lex takes a little time.

All of this is happening while Gavin’s ex-wife makes his life a living hell during their divorce. There’s also some other things that happen involving Gavin’s parents and Lex has his own things that they have to contend with.

Like I mentioned there’s a lot going on in this story and it was ok for my first book by this author.

I was exasperated by this book. It was so long. Lots of action could have been cut so the story wouldn't seem to ramble along. The characterization of Gavin was irritating. At times he was characterized like a child, weak, indecisive, "childlike innocence" several times. But also tendencies to be sexually dirty...didn't quite add up. Also, hard to see what was really attractive for Lex. Cassie was a one dimensional character who seemed to pop into the story to keep it going and going. Other than the MCs, Sheila, Riley, and Jean, the other characters were pretty one dimensional. The romance and the sex were fairly good. It in the end, I just wanted to finish the story to be done.

As an erotica piece, this was hot--like don't leave your bedroom for hours hot--but as a contemporary romance it was lacking. The erotica was MFM, with one of the men being out and bi and the other questioning. There were boobs and vaginas and cocks and balls--it was fantastic. There was also some pretty good chemistry between our protagonist and the love interest.

Where the book lost me was about 88%. There was an odd-placed twist after the resolution which protracted the ending. Not only that, but there was some disturbing domestic violence and then the entire incident was glossed over. Ew. Read it for the sexy times. Stop at 85%.

I liked the first half of the book, the second part however was plagued by miscommunication. The book completely lost me at the 90% mark, I have no idea why and how this drama unfolded and I was really annoyed that Lex was so easily forgiven. Overall, I was very excited about this book but the execution falls flat.

This book was hit and miss for me. I liked the slow progression of the relationship between Gavin and Lex, but I also felt like I was being inundated with angst and drama from all directions. Gavin's ex-wife was absolutely ridiculous and deserved to be in jail. I will admit that as soon as I realized we were heading down the "unnecessarily crazy female character" trope, I kind of checked out...at least when it came to that plot point. Poor Gavin was just so helpless and it seemed like there was absolutely no recourse. All in all, this was an okay book. It could have been trimmed down by at least 50 pages in my opinion, but it was a good effort by the author.

I received a copy of this book from the author and voluntarily provided my honest review.
