Libby and her friend Becca are searching for bugs to finish their nature worksheet for school. They come across a dragonfly trapped in an old spider web. Very carefully, Libby frees the dragonfly and sets it free in a new home. Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. A fun story about a little girl and her friend finding and identifying bugs for a class project. I love finding books with diverse characters without the book being about the fact that the characters are diverse. Those books are useful, but I think it's more important for kids to see themselves in characters who are just regular kids like them. The only thing I didn't like in the book was when Libby rescued the dragonfly from the spider's web. I think it's a sweet idea, but it seems very unrealistic that a young girl would be able to ever so gently unstick a bug from a web (I couldn't even do that). Otherwise a nice book.
You would think that nothing could be more exciting than a bike ride on a Sunday afternoon with your best friend--but Libby and Becca have just one task before pedaling down the dirt road...science homework. They need to be on the lookout for certain bugs in nature, and their experience tells them where to look.
