Seashores of Old Mexico

After a bar fight gone horribly wrong, Clint is on the run, tired, hungry, and desperate to get out of Texas and across the border as fast as he can. But more than anything, he needs a place to relax and feel safe—at least for a little while. Searching for work, he stumbles into a cantina on the beach and runs into its owner. Jack might be a little older and a little worldlier, but the two men have enough in common to form a fast friendship that soon spills over into the bedroom.
But Clint isn’t the only who’s done things he isn’t proud of, things he’d rather keep hidden. Both of them have to be ready to drop everything and run if the past gets too close, and that’s no foundation for a relationship—especially since the truth always comes out eventually.

This was a nice story. When we meet Clint he is pretty down on his luck and really needs someone to support him. Jack steps right up to take that job even is Clint is still wary of what could happen if someone find him. These characters both build friendships with each other before they explore if they can be more and it gives them a pretty firm base to start from.
I really felt for Clint when I read how scared he was of his past coming to get him and how eager he was to do almost anything for some food and a little comfortable sleep. Jack is worldlier but really is as alone as Clint in his personal life and grabs onto their relationship with both hands. These two complement each other well and while they slowly tip toe around each other at first open up quickly once they know that is an option.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
This is a quick easy read, which I enjoyed. The premise is fairly simple, but it did a good job of making the reader just how would you behave in this situation. The romance was sound, although I did tire of the honey moniker, I have to admit.
This would be perfect reading for an afternoon on a hot beach, with plenty of eye candy around and maybe a barman nearby that you could imagine this happening to ...

It always reinforces the goodness in humankind when I run across a story that showcases someone helping out a stranger who is down on their luck. Jack does just that when he senses Clint needs a dose of kindness and place to settle. I enjoyed seeing a friendship form between them followed by more. Short and fairly sweet!

Clint is a very lovable character, trying to get back on his feet after being falsely accused of a crime. When he runs into Jake, a bar owner, and finds unexpected help, life begins to turn around for him.
I loved the writing style which kept me very close to the characters as well as the slightly fairy-tale like storyline.

This is a book best described as two men that are running from their past end up finding one another and so much more.
Clint is in the run for something that happened and left him hiding from the police and leaving every thing he has ever known behind. With little to no money left, Clint stumbles into a tavern in Mexico hoping to have enough money to be able to get at least one beer and he ends up finding so much more when he meets Jack.
Jack knows the look that clint has because he has had the same kind of look. He knows "the kid" is some kind of trouble but refused to push on what it is because he knows how he would have reacted. Instead he offers Clint a place to stay and work to earn some money.
Little did Jack expect to being so attracted to Clint but he more he gets to know him the more he wants him and it seems to be the same for Clint also.
The thing about trouble is that it never stays in the past and just when Jack and Clint start to really build something between them the trouble from Clint's past walks into the bar looking for him.
Can Clint and Hack overcome the issues of their pasts? Or will what they started to build be just a distant memory when Clint runs again?
This was a decent short story about two men having a bad thing in their pasts that follows them. It is about facing what bad things have happened in order to be able to find a future. The chemistry between these two men is off the charts. BA Torgua did a good job on this book.

Oh, I liked this book, a lot. The writing is very casual, stop-start, lots of one or two-word sentences. I wasn't expecting it. But wow! Does it work? Well...yeah! The casual language and style suit the short story and the characters perfectly, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed reading it.
Clint is on the run after a brawl, back in his hometown in Texas, left a man dead. He’s passing through a small seaside town in Mexico when he decides to stop for the night. Finding just enough change, on the ground, for a beer, he lands on his feet when he walks into the local bar, Jacks bar. Jack immediately sees a lot of his former self in the young redheaded Clint that he gives him a job and a place to stay. On discovering they’re both gay the two of them set the temperature soaring, in the shower, on the beach...phew! Hot! But, the past was always going to catch up to Clint, and it does, just as he’s become settled and thinks of the place as home. He goes on the run, leaving Jack a note. Can Jack find him and bring him home?
Jack and Clint are awesome, beautifully described characters and although they're very different, they're perfect for each other. There’s not too much depth to the plot, it concentrates primarily on the heat between the two men, but the book is short, and the story is good, so that's absolutely fine. The ending is tied up really nicely. I was left wondering what was in Jack's pocket? I think I know and that would be the perfect ending for them. This is a good quick read that’s easy to get into and easy to read in one sitting. I highly recommend it.

Someone running from the law does not usually have my sympathy. However, from the moment I met Clint, I could not help myself but like him. He is trying so hard to get back on his feet, and there was nothing in his thoughts or memories that made him look or feel like a criminal. And then there is Jack, the owner of the bar Clint ends up working in. Jack is clearly not a stranger to running, but for him it’s been over twenty years… With two men who are attracted to each other from the get-go, who both have secrets they’d rather not talk about, it is only a question of time until curiosity takes over and I was looking forward to the fireworks!
The heat between Clint and Jack builds fairly quickly, and even though they don’t share any of the details what made them run from the US to Mexico, they both seem to know, or at least suspect, that they have found someone who understands them on a deeper level. But Clint can’t forget, especially when nightmares remind him of his problems, Jack can’t leave well enough alone, and when strangers come asking questions? Clint is on the run before he can think things through. It’s a good thing Jack is tenacious as well as understanding.
If you like stories where the underdog gets a happy ending after running for his life, if fairy tales set in today’s world are your thing, and if you have a soft spot for tough men with a heart of gold, then you will probably like this novella. I certainly did – even more so on the second reading.

Jack also finds himself protecting Clint from his nightmares. He understands Clint’s plight because he has his own secret. When the law comes sniffing around, Clint goes on the run again, but Jack’s got only one thing on his mind—find Clint and bring him home.
In her own unique style of writing and storytelling, BA Tortuga gives readers a sweet short story about two men who are just finding each other. I really like the stories this author tells; they may not always have a deeper insight into each character, but there always seems to be a steamy chemistry between them, and a special connection between a younger and older man. The stories may be a little quirky, but there’s always an HEA. Seashores of Old Mexico will take you to the sun and surf, and will leave you with a heartfelt warmth.

So at the end of the day, the Seashores of Old Mexico is just good, old-fashioned erotica. The plot is…well there is no plot, not really, and any conflict for the characters is resolved with an almost laughable easiness. Depth is not something this story strives for. There are characters, but no real development or exploration of them. Jack and Clint exist in the here and now and whoever they might have been ceases to be important. The two men have a natural chemistry and if you’re looking for a bit of fluff, then Seashores of Old Mexico will probably tickle your fancy.
Normally this is the kind of short story that drives me nuts, because I’m not a fan of erotica without purpose. But Seashores of Old Mexico never pretends to be anything more than what it is and I appreciate that kind of honesty. You can tell right from the beginning that the plot, such as it is, will play out like a porn flick. The only thing missing is a pizza delivery guy. But because this story doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not, its actual purpose is allowed to work fairly well. The pacing is quick and smooth and Jack and Clint are both charming enough to make their affair rather sweet.
Seashores of Old Mexico isn’t going to win a Pulitzer, but it isn’t trying to. Instead the author has offered a short and sweet story with more than one happy ending. If you’re looking for something light and sexy, then the Seashores of Old Mexico is going is probably going to be strong fit.
