In the gated community of Merryville, the elite wealthy of Maryland are protected from everything that could harm them. Everything except themselves.

Frisco and Pope are on a collision course with Merryville and all the dangerous secrets it holds. Getting in is easy enough. But getting out may cost them their lives.
B. B. Griffith writes best-selling supernatural thrillers. He is the author of the Vanished series, the Tournament series, and the Gordon Pope thrillers. He lives in Denver, CO, where he is often seen sitting on his porch staring off into the distance or wandering to and from local watering holes with his family.
But this one deserves 5 stars! When the writing is good, grammar & punctuation clean, characters real, and when an author can surprise me at the end and it still flows with the story and not something from left field, when I audibly gasp when I get to the climax, then that's a pretty damn good book!! Already searching for which book I'm reading next by B. B. Griffith!!
Psychiatrist Gordon Pope will be sainted soon if things keep going as they have in this story. His clients remain creepy and dangerous, and Pope continues to solve the mystery of their psychiatric disorders with compassion. I am anxiously awaiting the third book in the series.
This is another great psychological mystery/thriller, featuring the guy who's fast becoming my favourite fictional psychologist, Dr Gordon Pope.
I enjoyed the story, and it's a fine continuation of the series, but in my opinion, it's just not as good as The Sleepwalkers. It just seemed very slow. It dragged along and I skimmed a lot, and stuff only really started happening around the 50% mark.
Like the first book, the editing was flawless, and I'll say again that what I like about this series is that the book can be read completely as a standalone. You need to know very little about what happened last time, and what little you DO need to know is explained to you, when you need to know it.
What's more, I don't think you'd miss out on anything at all if you happened to read this book first, and then moved on to Book One afterwards.
I hope Mr Griffith writes more Gordon Pope, and just so I don't miss it, I even signed up for his New Release Mailing List. I NEVER sign up for other authors' mailing lists!
Fantastic! I look forward to the next Gordon Pope book. Really great!
Sophie felt dirty. Everything around her; the leaves falling from the trees, the cracks on the floors. No told her the j my way to stay safe and rid herself of the dirty was to burn it all down. Her mom said Mo wasn’t real, but she could see him sometimes. She definitely heard him.
Dr. Gordon Pope was called by Sophie’s mother to help her daughter. She was not right. Her imaginary friend was back and he was disturbing her more than healthy. Nothing of what was happening was healthy. Aside from acute obsessive compulsive disorder, Sophie was troubled. She was shattered and he was determined to help her through. Her mother, Dianne, asked that he be discreet so it didn’t affect her and her family’s political profile.
This is the 2nd book in the Gordon Pope trilogy. It may be my last, though. His writing is interesting, but being a mental health professional, it is sometimes frustrating to read this type of book. Gordon Pope is a hot mess of a psychiatrist, and he doesn't really get much better in this book. He breaks so many ethics rules, like talking about his patients with his mother, ex-wife and new girlfriend/Baltimore cop, Dana. He became involved with Dana in the first book, after they ended up working a case together. In this novel he takes on a 12 year old female patient, Sophie, who has an invisible friend (Mo), who starts fires. Sophie's mother begs him to take on the case and keep it quiet due to concern about her family's reputation. Gordon thinks that Sophie may be schizophrenic. Eventually we learn that Mo is real, and is actually Sophie's MOTHER. She apparently had a slew of miscarriages, which she keeps in a jar in the basement. Mo happened to be Sophie's twin brother. Sophie's mother has Dissociative Identity Disorder (used to be called multiple personality disorder) and has taken on a personality for each child that she lost. This was the most ridiculous storyline I have ever read, AND I read over 90 books this past year alone. Mo started a fire that landed Dana in ICU because she was badly burned. Mo also started a fire in her own home, which almost killed Gordon, Mo and Sophie. But somehow at the end of the book, Gordon is treating Sophie's mom ("Mo" et al) for the DID. Like, I now damn well I would never treat someone as a client who almost killed me and my significant other. That does not sound ethical at all.

After reading The Sleepwalkers I had to have the next Gordon Pope novel! It didn't disappoint! Fast paced and stunningly intense. It explores schizophrenia and adolescent mental illness with finesse with great compassion. I couldn't stop reading until the surprising ending. I hope there will be more Dr. Pope books to come!
Gordon's life and career has changed for the better, now he and those he cares about could become the victims of a young girl's deadly fire starting abilities brought on by an ominous imaginary friend. But things aren't clear as Gordon believes the seem to be on the surface; Sophie's own mother is deeply burdened with her own secrets that are heart of everything and deeply tragic in tearing the family apart. Another wonderfully intense read from this brilliant author, highly recommended.
I especially enjoyed the psychiatric diagnoses and treatment referenced in this book. I kept thinking "dissociative identity disorder" - but I had the wrong character in mind! The twists and turns of the plot lines made this a page turner. I was sorry when it came to an end
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had twists and turns all over the place and the ending was nothing i had even imagined. This author has a wonderful way of describing events that I can easily envision myself in. My mind just runs wild with the thoughts his books stir up and he always leaves me thoroughly sated and satisfied. I can't wait to start the next one.
Another good gripping read from this author. I’m a little upset to note that there isn’t a book 3 of Gordon pope available but I’m praying it’s just a waiting game. I love the way this author writes and the characters are good also. I am seeing them develop and want to continue to do so.
Griffith is a master of inserting twists and turns into his stories. Just when the reader thinks there is no tiein a new link is established! Masterful! I couldn't put it down.
I have grown very fond of the main characters in this series and really appreciate greatly their character development. This was a creepy, fast paced story that really delivers! I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of B.B. Griffith.
Reading any book by B.B. Griffith is a wonderful use of time. His characters are interesting and vivid, the story lines are interesting. I hope he writes for a very long time. I know I will be ready for it all
I really like the main characters…Gordon, Dana, and Marty. This one is a bit strange, especially when they discover who Mo really is. Still, the author develops the plot so that it seems plausible.

I liked this one much better than the first! This was a tad more intense. Looking forward to reading the next installment, yet I plan to take a break by reading some “fluff.”
I read alot. So much so that it seems I've read every form of plot twist and character type there is. I love that Gordon Pope is such an unassuming, quiet character. He is so not perfect and very aware of his faults yet able to keep the reader engaged by his very real personality. Love these books!
