Sam has regained her memory--and with it, the Knowing. There is magic inside her; strong, powerful and old as the Earth, it is more than enough to heal the sick werewolves. If only she could figure out how to use it.
Alex Channing has finally done something selfless and walked away. For the first time ever, his reasons are not about his own interests. He knows full well Sam is the only one who can heal him. But Alex knows better than anyone: magic always comes with a price. And he refuses to let Sam get hurt because of him. He'd rather die than cause her pain--and he plans to do just that. The more rabid werewolves he can take with him, the better.
With Alex's days numbered and more and more feral werewolves being drawn to Sam, she must learn to wield what's inside her and claim her inheritance. Before it's too late.
Book 2 in the Heart Lines Series by Heather Hildenbrand.
Heather Hildenbrand lives in coastal Virginia where she writes paranormal and fantasy romance with strong-willed heroines and dark, grumpy heroes who’ll burn the world down for their mate. Her most frequent hobbies are cuddling with her giant goldendoodles, riding country roads on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, and avoiding killer slugs.

This was definitely way better than the first book in the series but there was still a little something missing to make it great. I enjoyed learning more about the Hunters and the wolves but I feel like there could have been way more explanation, I’m left with many questions unanswered and that’s such an unsatisfying feeling. Nevertheless, I did still enjoy this book but it could have been so much more!
Inheritance (Heart Lines #2) by Heather Hildenbrand Heather Hildenbrand’s INHERITANCE is an exciting addition to the Heart Lines series. INHERITANCE takes place after book one, REMEMBRANCE, left off. Samantha Knight regained her memory. She and RJ are visiting Sam’s Aunt Kiwi in Guam to help her learn her magic. Alex Channing took off to Alaska, knowing that it would cost Sam to heal him. Eventually, they wind up back in Half Moon. This paranormal romance is suitable for new adults and adults.
I like Sam. Her character transforms a lot now that she has her memory back. She is becoming more like the person she was prior to losing her memory. She is more outgoing and not as scared. She is having difficulties learning how to use her healing powers. She discovers the history behind the werewolves and how she is connected to them.
Alex is a noble hero. We learn more about his past and why he doesn’t want Sam to heal him. He realizes he doesn’t have anything other than CHAS. The werewolf venom takes its toll on him. I respect his character and feel bad for his situation.
I like Sam and Alex together. I keep feeling like there is more to their relationship that we have yet to discover. I’m looking forward to seeing where their story goes.
The plot was interesting with multiple twists. Heather Hildenbrand did an excellent job constructing the history behind the werewolves and hunters. The story had another cliff hanger ending that left me eager for the next book, ESPERANCE, expected to be published on April 27, 2017. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I just can't get enough, this series has become like an addiction for me. I. NEED. MORE.
This is the second installment and I'd have to say it was even better than the first. Once again character development is amazing and there is always something happening in the story that will keep you on your toes.
With each turn of the page you're more and more captivated and won't want to put the book down for anything. And yes, we're left screaming and maybe a little frustrated (only because we didn't want it to end, and we just HAVE to know whats going to happen next) at the end of the book because a cliff hanger will do that to a reader, lol.
I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment, I'm absolutely dying to know whats going to happen next.
Would I recommend this book? Hell yes! If you're after a new series that will have you glued to the pages and always left wanting more, then go grab your copy of book 1, Remembrance, and get started. Enjoy the adventure!!
“Magic, especially the old, earth magic, always comes with a price.” - Alex
Sam has regained her memory but still has no idea how to tap into her powers to heal others. Edie has recruited Sam to work for CHAS as a consultant with access to resources and a lab. She and RJ team up to investigate the mysterious infection that is causing werewolves to turn feral and violent.
While on a winter break in Guam with her Aunt Kiwi, Sam learns of a prophecy that foretells the return of the god of the ocean and goddess of the moon and the fierce battle for power that will break out between them. This prophecy has already been set in motion with the feral werewolves;
“According to the legend, if the ocean god couldn’t find and kill his son, he would resort to stealing his humanity. His second soul. Thus, the animal would be wild. With nothing left of their son’s humanity, the moon goddess would consider the deal broken, and she would bring the wrath of the darkness upon all Hunters.” - Kiwi
Most shocking of all is the revelation that Sam isn’t simply one of the original women that the goddess gave her magic to but ‘the one who gave her magic away in the first place.’
When RJ is attacked by a feral werewolf, Sam is unable to tap into her power to heal and is forced to kill it. This results in her seeking out the island spirit Taotaomona, for answers. Sam learns that magic comes with a price but that she must ‘use it or it uses you.’ For every creature Sam heals, the magic will give her a piece of their pain and leave a mark in the form of a scar. Unfortunately despite developing The Knowing from her meeting with Taotaomona, Sam is no closer to tapping into her ability to heal.
When Alex learns of RJ’s werewolf attack, he returns to Half Moon. He is appalled by the newly developed scars on Sam and despite his ailing health, refuses to allow her to heal him. Sam is further frustrated when her attempts to heal Mason result in him going into a coma. At the end of her tether, she seeks out Sushna, an ancient and deadly magic wielder. Through her, Sam finally learns the answers to the questions she’s been looking for.
Following another werewolf attack, Alex is bitten and on the brink of death. Unfortunately the solution to healing him may cost both Sam and he, more than they are willing to give...
Inheritance is the second book of the Heart Line series and is once more told from Alex and Sam’s point of view. I felt that the author expanded on her world building considerably in this instalment. We see Sam learn more about who and what she is. We also learn more about Alex’s background, the fact that his mother was a healer too.
The legend behind the creation of hunters and werewolves was intriguing. The idea that a god of the ocean and a moon goddess fell in love and briefly dwelt on earth. That the god became jealous of the attention the goddess bestowed on their child and tried to kill him. To protect him, the goddess gave the child the ability to shift into a wolf and man, which gave him two souls. The god became enraged and created Hunters to seek out and kill the wolf child. To maintain the balance, the goddess made werewolf venom, poisonous to the Hunters. Having grown old and weak due to her time on Earth, she passed her magic to heal wolves to ‘chosen ones’. Animosity between Hunters and Werewolves has existed ever since.
There were a few teasers from the Dirty Blood series, especially when references were made to Tara’s scientifically engineered blood, where I felt at disadvantage once more for not reading the prequel series. It’s simply explained as its ‘her story to tell.’ As a result, I do feel that I would have benefited from reading the Dirty Blood series first.
Inheritance is definitely a stronger instalment than the first book which ends on a huge cliffhanger. Luckily I’m lined up to read Esperance next.
I received an advanced free audible copy of Inheritance that was narrated by Kelly Pruner who made it easy to differentiate between the different characters.
This series must be read after the "Dirty Blood" series. This series must be read in order. The first book is Remembrance . This is the second book. I can't wait to read "Esperance"!
Alex is dying and he refuses to let Sam heal him under any circumstances. He feels it would hurt her too much and he refuses to be a reason she pays any price. All magic, especially old magic, comes with a price. Was leaving her the right decision? What can be so about it now? How much longer until he dies? Why can't be stop thinking about her?
Sam needs to learn how to use her powers so she can heal the wolves who have lost their human spirit and become rabid. RJ has agreed to guard her and help her with her quest. Alex running away and leaving her broke her heart. How will she ever learn to use her healing magic? Why was it so easy for her when she didn't know what she was doing? What Price will she have to pay for her magic? Is she willing to pay it for complete strangers? Can she get Alex to let her heal him once she knows how?
Heather has taken us further into the life of Sam and Alex in this book and has gladly brought you along for the ride. There are tons on emotions in this book so make sure you bring a box of Kleenex along for the ride. There will be times you will want to jump in the book and smack Sam as well as Alex. Trust me when I say this there will come a time you will want to wrap your hands around the authors throat and shake her and say, WHY!!! However, please refrain from doing so because Heather is a very talented writer and I love her and would miss her work terribly. Besides, I know she is going to make it up to me in the next book…LOL.
I know you will not be disappointed in this book and enjoy each page turning experience.
Starting out, Sam has no memories because what Wes and Tara did. She knows something is wrong, she's afraid and anxious all the time. When the intriguing Alex Channing comes to town, her life starts to unravel. Getting her memories back is the first thing she needs to do. Thinking her life will get better now, her world is upended when she realizes she isn't who she thought. Now she has to figure out who she is and how to use what the Goddess has gifted her. Will she be able to? Will Alex come clean? What happens next is an excellent beginning to Sam's story!
I did not expect so much angst, guilt or indecision seeing as Alex and Sam had struggled so much to get where they were. The answer was right there and both of them chickened out at the last moment. So who is not being truthful as it was mentioned by Mason but overlooked with Alex being closer to death. Instead of reacting they should be going on the defensive and seem like they are one step behind the enemy. Things just got stranger towards the end and enemies could be hiding in plain sight. I have my suspicions but time will reveal all.
Inheritance is book two in the spin off of the Dirty Blood series. I enjoyed this book as much as I did the others. Sam starts off on vacation in Guam trying to recover and figure out what is going on. Poor Alex, on the other hand, is up in frosty Alaska. This book kept me turning page after page waiting to see just what these two get into next. Can Sam finally get her powers under control? Can she save the werewolves? Or Alex? One way to find out. Luckily, book three comes out soon too. Pick up your copy today. I received my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sam remembers who she is but doesn’t know how to heal. She is determined to figure it out. She and RJ spend winter break in Guam with her Aunt Kiwi. Alex is in Alaska tracking rogue werewolves. Alex and Sam get back together when Sam returns from Guam with an injured RJ. Indra from Creeper Alley gets involved in the storyline. I don’t think her involvement will turn out to be a good thing. This book draws you further into a world of werewolves and hunters and old magic that few understand anymore.
A Witch's Destiny (Witches of Half Moon Bay Book 2) Kindle Edition
I can't wait to start book 3, this series is so hard to put down. A page turner, nail biter, want to throw my kindle across the room type of book.. I am so in love with Sam and Alex!! So much love, heartbreak, twists and turns, excitement and definitely very HOT HOT passion. Definitely recommend this book and start reading book 1 or you may be loss, actually start with the "Dirty Blood" series because many characters from that series are in this one!! Well boots start book 3!!
It was really good but she has xs where I feel she's 2 damn stupid 2 b a main character with no damn brains!! Then there's alot it was like she was trying her best and using her brain. Lol don't figure!! Alex is a stubborn ass when he wants 2 b but Sam got sum answers about her past and how she's supposed 2 live up 2 4 her future. But the question is can she? Will Alex b able 2 stay around or die trying 2 protect her or trying 2 prove his point cause of stubbornness and things from his past? There's alot of twists and turns.
I’m freaking out over this twist of an ending!! If you have read the first book in this series, do not pass go and do not collect $200 - just go straight to wherever you buy these books and get this one!! Then, when you get tot he end, I’ll be here for moral support! (Cuz I swear I need some right now!!h I did NOT see this coming AT ALL!! I can’t write a longer review cuz I gotta go read Book 3!!! Read this series. It will NOT disappoint!! Gah!!
I’m not sure if I’m going to read more in this series...
The characters and the story line lack depth. The author also needs more experience in showing vs telling us what is happening. This is book 2 and not a lot has happened. If you’re ok with a slow plot keep reading. I do think it will get better.
Favorite Quote: "I writhed and strained and struggled to stay—for her. All details and memories from my own life had vanished amidst the pain. All I knew was one thing but I knew it like I knew my own name: I needed to exist on the same plane as she did for as long as possible. I had to hold on."
Sam is trying to learn about her magic. She goes to visit her Aunt Kiwi in Guam hoping to learn how to use her magic to heal. So many secrets so much to figure out.Can Sam and Alex finally finally figure out their role to each other? Seems as if Alex would rather die than let Sam help him. Good books great writing.
OMG best book ever!!! Sam is still working hard to find out about the magic that she holds inside her. So she can help heal all the sick werewolves but, I also truly believe the most important person she wants to heal is Alex. She has finally admitted to herself that after all they have finally been through that she is in love with him. But, with everything going on she has to focus on understanding her magic. A lot of crazy stuff has happened from going to Guam to visit her aunt and to returning home. Also, I love the chemistry between Sam and Alex, I mean one minute they are cold next minute they are hot! And I mean smoking hot! I can't wait to read what happens next! Fantastic book, a must read!!
I am so glad to have happily agreed to volunteer to review this book and this was my honest review!
I loved it! Werewolves, hunters, witches, and magic all mixed up in an intriguing angst and drama filled atory. This was book two in this series and they really should be read in order to fully grasp what's going on. I'm hooked and excited for book three.
Actual fuck .Alex is a dip shit and he’s pissing me off . And I knew it . Sam needs to remember to trust her instincts. Point blank 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 I’m so excited for the next book . Hopefully Sam and Alex can pull their heads our of their own asses 👌🏽
Feral werewolves are still gunning for Sam. Alex is still sick and stubborn as hell. It takes a while, but Sam is starting to understand how to use her magic. Now we just have to figure out who really isn't her friend. Crazy ending! What's gonna happen? Gah!
This book is all about learning new things, hearing things about Sam's powers, and given warnings of things to come and people involved that the characters forget about immediately after hearing
I enjoyed this second installment but did not care where they left off. I can't wait to find out if Sam and Alex can overcome this new complication. I am starting the third book in the series now.
I understand this is a series but by the end of this volume, there were only questions. I guess if I want any answers, I'm going to have to purchase the rest. Not happy.
Cliffhanger! Another awesome addition to the Dirty Blood world. I really enjoyed reading more of Sam’s journey and Alex’s stubbornness. A sequel worth all five glittery stars!
