Parallax picks up after the events of Starblind, with the crew on their way back to normal after escaping the clutches of the sinister alien race out to torture and maim other species. Tamzea is content with her life as the healer on Philadelphia, but seeing Jane and Ash together makes her long for the past that was ripped from her. When an escape pod gets pulled to their ship, Tamzea finds young twins who say that they are the daughters of her lost love Eron, who she had thought was dead for the last ten years. Tamzea can't escape her past, instead it is coming for her...

This is book two in the Starblind series and I would highly recommend that they be read in order since it is a continuous plot, even though each book is about a different character from the crew. I have found this series to be the perfect escapist read for an afternoon, a fun, steamy, super fast read that can be breezed through. The audiobooks were roughly 7ish hours so you can pick one up and have it completed in no time.

There was so much more action that occurred on the pages of this book making me like this story better than the first book in the series, but there were still times that the action occurs off the pages and the reader just gets the basic wrap-up described. I am sure this is much easier for the author but as the reader, I feel like I could have missed something super exciting (such as the rescue of Ash, just to name one event). I personally would like to experience the action and emotions instead of getting a quick summary.

I think that since the world was already established in Starblind, the author was able to make the characters have more depth and allow the reader to get to know them better. Not only did I get to really meet and understand Tamzea, but also Jane (the main character from the first book) was more fleshed out (and a better person than I originally thought her to be) than she had been before. Oh, and the twists and betrayals that Parallax provided were nicely surprising, keeping me on my toes. Book 1 was entertaining but book 2 was even better, so that makes me think that book 3 will be the best yet- I have high expectations now.

I listened to the audiobook version narrated by Ashley Holt and I found her to be a bit slow for my liking at regular speed, but once I bumped the speed up to 1.5x, she was the perfect narrator. She gave all the characters personality and voices, as well as the sass I have come to know from the crew of the Philadelphia. I would love to listen the the rest of the series brought to life by Ashley.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advance, complimentary copy of this book.

The second in the Starblind series is, strictly speaking, not a sequel because it focuses on a different protagonist. Jane, the captain of the Pittsburgh, is here but largely on a peripheral basis and our heroine this time is one of the crew, Tamzea. I have to say I think I like Tamzea more than Jane, or maybe it's just that she seems a little more appealing, someone I might want to spend time with (and I confess to thinking lavender hair and eyes is pretty cool). Also, Tamzea is a healer rather than the bounty hunter Jane is and that's naturally more comfortable.

Tamzea has a past, pretty well hidden, but it comes back to haunt her in the person of Eron, someone she thought had been lost in that past. The connection between these two is anything but placid as they try to build a "new" relationship and I found this book to have more interesting aspects than the first in some ways.

As before, the sex scenes are more than I care for but they're acceptable. As for the narration, I'm no closer to really liking Ms. Holt's tones and cadence and it actually jarred on me a little more this time because I would expect a different sound for Tamzea. Still, that's not enough to make me not want to listen to the next book so stay tuned!

The first read was not really needed to follow the second follow-up. Jane and crew makes appearances, but it was not the soul of the story. This time around we find that it a pair of Mazatimz that capture our attention. Tamzea was a healer by nature. She had heartbreak in her past. She had nightmares. And she missed Eron so much. She felt his loss to her soul. I found this one to be a different view on a world(s) of various beings. At the same time I found it to be similar to the fact there will always be one that feel superior and feel its their right to squash out others.

Narrator review. . . I am sure this would not be what anyone wants to hear of their work but for me Ashely did not provide enough of a various from book one’s narration. I felt her voice was more suited to Jane. I also felt that the feminine voices were a bit too similar. I felt the male voice had not real distinction. Some of the other audio quality issues that were present in book one’s audio seem to have been addressed in this recording. I find that for me this was much more pleasing at a higher speed rate.

Started really slow only about half way through it got more interesting and after all the weird short cutoffs every so often on the first audiobook of this series it's been fixed on this second book.
About the story it feels like this one was more like the calm before the storm which will come on the next book with the new twists that where introduced at the end of this one.

Note: While this is Book 2 in the series, this works fine as a stand alone novel.

It was fun getting to know Tamzea in this novel. In Book 1, Starblind, she was a rather minor character. Here, she is center stage. Even as memories from her past haunt her dreams, her future lies rooted in that past. The Pittsburgh has bumped into an unexpected spacepod with an even more unexpected cargo. This cargo drags Tamzea back into a hell hole she once escaped.

Eron, Tamzea’s other half, has been trapped in that hell hole all these years. The two must figure out their escape together even as they decide on their new relationship. There’s plenty of sexy scenes in this book, as there was in Book 1. They are delightfully steamy even if some of them are rather brief.

This space opera is quick and breezy fun. Jane still has a role as captain. She’s got a whiny side when her mate, Ash, is off doing something, leaving her alone. Zula and Masha also put in appearances but their roles are small. I liked the new addition of Eron though I felt that most of the focus was on his most masculine attributes (especially during the sex scenes).

The pace is fast and well spaced between action scenes, sexy bits, and a little bit of character reflection or growth. The Denards continue to be the baddies in this series with little depth but I can live with that. While I did like Book 1 a little more, this was a good addition to the series. 3.5/5 stars.

The Narration: Ashley Holt continues to have a distinctive cadence in her narration. It’s not bad but it is an acquired taste. Since I was already familiar with her work from Starblind, I found her narration a good continuation for the series. Mostly, her character voices were distinct but sometimes they were muddied. Her male voices were masculine. Once again, I did speed up the narration just a touch (1.25X) as so many of the syllables are really drawn out. Increasing the speed made the narration sound more natural. 3.5/5 stars.

“Starblind” continues with book 2 in a different manner than expected. I know that things settled down a little after book 1, but I was not expecting to have the story of another crew member. “Parallax” has Tamzea in the center of attention. Her story begins once she is reunited with her long lost love. A lot of unexpected things happen. This book has more twists than the first one, which made me like it more.

Since we are already familiar with the world building, the author is now more focused on character development. We see different angles of the main characters from the previous book and more interactions between them. I loved the love story between Tamzea and Eron and I think it had more depths and a lot more complications. It was true that the series gets better and better J

The writing is as exceptional as in “Starblind” and I believe the author did a lot more exploration in that area. She plied more with the worlds, with descriptions and places. I loved it !

I am keeping my opinion in regards to the narration. As I mentioned in my review for book 1, I think Ashley Holt overdid it in her intonation and used a very slow reading pace. I could adjust the reading speed on my app, but the voice inflexions were still there.

With all my comments and adding he plot development and narration, I have to keep my 4 star rating. I loved it, can’t wait for the next one. I wonder who’s story will we get this time. I haven’t checked yet J

Book 2 in the Starblind series. It's not necessary to read the first book, but I think it's better too. Same characters from the first book, but different POV. There are sexual situations. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a good job. It's the same narrator as the first book, I do think the narrator was suited better for Jane's POV from the first book, but I enjoyed the overall listening experience.

This book is with the same starship crew, but this book is in Tamzea's POV. I love Tamzea's story! I actually loved this book more than the first book. Tamzea and her mate, Eron, were captured and tortured. Tamzea escapes, but she believes Eron is dead. It has been years and Tamzea has been working on a starship, she comes across some information that Eron may be alive, so she sets out to discover the truth. I love the Sci-Fi aspect. It's a fun space adventure! Interesting and entertaining story! I love the connection between Tamzea and Eron, and I like the direction the story goes. Loved seeing the other crew as well, and I really enjoy the humor. I do wish that sometimes the characters were more serious when the situation is serious. Overall, I'm loving this series, I'm excited to see more of these characters!

Well, that was a load of feels and laughs and pants and . . . Pants? Ignore that.
LOL I really enjoyed this, probably a little more than the first book. Tamzea has been under leadership of Captain Jane for a long time. Eron was . . . I don't want to compare him to Ash, because the two couldn't be more different, but I am partial to Ash (first book). I like that I was able to pick right back up where I left off, without feeling like I needed to refresh my memory and skim the what I was listening to before getting distracted. Not meaning that in a bad way (I'm an older sister. I'm always needed for something).
Second time around, Ashley Holt grew on me. She's found her flow with the character(s) in this series and I was able to see why she narrated the previous book the way she did. Smooth, clear audio. The transitions were not choppy. Nobody likes choppy audio, LOL
4.5 of 5 Stars.

Firstly, this is a series that needs to be listened to/read in order, so if you haven't read book one go get that one first.

I really enjoyed this story. It's been a while since I listened to book one so I didn't remember what this series is about but it only took about 2 minutes for me to remember, this is a distinctive world (and an interesting one). The story is both complex with lots going on and also simple because it mostly ties around a few main ideas.

If you liked book one I'm confident that you'll also enjoy this book. It picks up a bit after the first book but follows Tamzea the ships healer as the main character, and she turns out to have quite a history behind her.

I didn't really like the narration, I found the phrasing odd and a bit off putting, but the character voices are well done. There were some small production glitches where the audio repeated itself or there was a shift in the sound quality, but these were small.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

The Pittsburgh has the coolest captain, who we meet in book one but now it´s the turn of one of her crew members. Tamzea was born to heal, it´s in her species nature and is who she is. When her past comes and drags her back in, she has to face the man she once loved.

Tamzea and Eron´s relationship is full of emotions, there is tension all over the place because he is not the same and his soul is really tormented. Tamzea will have to ask herself if loving someone is enough to help them heal. I love their evolution and interaction.

AS all D.T. Dyllin´s books there are sex scenes, always brought up in the best moments. Sometimes is rush and messy and others, it´s sweet and tender. What´s important is that is not just sex, it´s how the characters show some emotions that cannot express any other way.

The book is a perfect sci-fi romance, and all the elements are covered. I really liked it and recommended it.

Book two in the Starblind series brings more adventure, more danger, and more vile Denards. This time the story focuses on the ship’s doctor Tamzea. She is from a planet of empathic healers with a distinct violet coloring called Metzas. Tamzea has been on the Pittsburg with Captain Jane and her crew hiding from her past, but the past has a way of finding her. Now two strange Metza children show up and claim to know someone from her past. But finding him may prove more dangerous for her and the crew than they know.
I am totally diggin this series! The author writes strong women that have flaws, but they don’t let that stop them from kicking ass. They know their strengths and use them. I was girl crushing on Jane in book one and now Tamzea in this story. I love how they have found a balance between what they do and the love in their lives.
The action is fast paced and the crew manages to get out of some sticky situations. I hope to get more from this series! 5 stars for Parallax!

I will never get tired of saying Dyllin is one of my favourite authors, her books are an auto-read for me. No blurb needed. And I'm never disappointed. I devoured this book in a day, i just couldnt put it down.

One of my favourite things about her books is she writes kick-ass women. They may not always start that way, but by the end of the book they have toughened up and can hold their own when they need to. And Tamzea is one of those women.

In the beginning of the book she is very much the damsel in distress but thats not her fault, her species as a whole are pacifists. As the book progresses she realises that she needs to take control and be there for her loved ones, she cant keep relying on others to save the day. She may not ever be as gung-ho as Jane but she wont be found passed out in a corner waiting to be rescued. Not any more.

I got the feels, but I still want more!

Parallax is #02 of 04 in the Starblind Series by D.T. Dyllin. All 4 are currently published with 2 of them being on Audible. #3 is in audio production now, with #4 to soon follow. The author has confirmed that #4 is the final book in the series.

Ashley Holt narrates the series thus far.

HEA with no cliffhanger!

This series is only 4 books long and is heavily connected by characters and overall story arc so I recommend reading the books in order. It is not only more enjoyable that way, but you will miss out on a lot of details if you read them out of order.

Length: 6 hrs and 52 mins

Yes, both in thoughts and actions, so if you do not like sex, then you should avoid.

♥ Story ♥

Parallax picks up not long after the end of Starblind. The Pittsburgh is now up 3 passengers. We get a bigger glimpse of the classification system. There are also some new species introduced along the way.

This is Tamzea's story, and it gave me some deep feels! The story flashes back and forth in time as memories are relived. I will warn you now, they aren't happy or pretty!

Tamzea

Tamzea is a Mazatimz. A species human in appearance, except for their lavender eyes and hair. Most of them end up as some kind of doctor due to their healing abilities. Mazatimz children are often locked away and sheltered to protect them from the dangers of the world. This turns out to be their downfall.

The back story to Tamzea's life comes flooding back with a vengeance after a chance encounter with an out of control space pod. We find out about her escape and guilt over the loved one she thought dead, that she left behind.

"Humans also used to think they were at the top of the food chain.
....They were wrong about that, too."

Eron

Eron is the other half of Tamzy's pair-bond. He lied and sacrificed to protect another. Life, however, is never that black and white. Just as shady deals are rarely honored. His strife really pulls the heart strings, so try to cut the guy some slack. There is always more to the story, because the things you see and the thoughts you have, may not be your own. (that is supposed to be cryptic)

The Starblind series is a page turner and I can't wait to listen to the next in the series, Parallax (Tamzea's story). I can't really comment more without spoiling something. And trust me, I have a bunch of comments to make, but you will have to go over to the Read Along With Me for it, to be posted soon.
