¡come gusanos!
Very sweet book about becoming friends, illustrating that sometimes you can try new things because it's something a friend enjoys. It shows compromise in a most beautiful way.
I enjoyed reading this book about friendship in unlikely people (or in this case, animals). This book is a great example of referent power. Both of the characters are likable and form a relationship that makes both the squirrel and the bird happier. Had they never had met, neither of them would have been able to try things that were outside of their comfort zones. I like that this book encourages children to try new things, as sometimes trying new things can lead to great things! Like making new friends!
Really cute story about a squirrel trying to befriend a bird and the bird learning that though they are different, they are happiest together. Super savage friend-zone moment in the middle though, watch out.
A Friend Like You is a book about friendship. The setting is fall and there are only two characters, Squirrel and Bird. Squirrel and Bird are nothing alike. They are completely different animals. Squirrel likes nuts and Bird likes worms. Squirrel climbs up trees and Bird flies to the top of the tree. Bird sings and Squirrel does not. Squirrel and Bird realize they do not share the same interests but they are willing to give it a try for friendship. I believe the author's purpose was to show that no matter how two different people(in this case animals) are, they can still be friends. This would be a book for early childhood grades. This book is special to me because it shows how two totally different people can still be friends. Squirrel and Bird's voice are equally heard throughout the book and their willingness to try what the other likes makes this book interesting and engaging. I definitely recommend schools to have this book in their library and for teachers to have it in their classroom library. Friendship is an important topic for children and I believe they would love it. It is very easy to see where the author is coming from in this book and she allows me to connect with a Squirrel/Bird relationship with my own bestfriend. The book is AWESOME! 100% recommend it.
In “A Friend Like You” by Andrea Schomburg, a squirrel meets a bird that wishes to be friends with him. However, as they were enjoying each other’s company, they realized that they were unable to do certain activities because birds didn't prefer to eat nuts or squirrels couldn't fly. Their differences made it hard to be friends, but they compromised to meet each other's wishes and remained friends. The story is a good representation to young viewers that despite our differences, friendships sometimes require effort to be strong. In the end, the work that they put into their friendship allows for happiness and companionship. Toward the end of the book, the bird has doubts about their friendship because of all their differences. He realizes that he is truly a bird and can't always be a squirrel's friend. In the background, there is a door with bright lights. The illustrator uses Moebius’s code of windows and doors, in order to show the opportunity. The squirrel and bird work out their differences and realize that they don't always have to sacrifice their wants. Once again, their friendship is strengthened. The door was a representation of their possible everlasting friendship. Overall, this book was very sweet and a great representation of true friendship.
A lovely story of friendship, highlighting that differences can make friendships stronger and better and shouldn’t be seen as a bad thing. They share and show each other how to do the things they love which children could relate to their own lives. There could be misconceptions about hibernation because the bird ends up eating nuts and hibernating with the squirrel. It could be linked to discussions about what animals do in the winter months. A nice story for FS and KS1 children.
I think this is a great book. I would definitely use this in my classroom. I think it shows kids that it is okay to be different than your friends. You don't have to only be friends with people who look like you, talk like you, or do things the way you do and that it is okay to learn new things from other friends.
This book is very sweet and I loved it for a preschool audience who are learning proper social interaction. Basically, it was about the compromise of habits between a squirrel and a bird. The squirrel and bird were unlikely friends, but when they tried doing what the other liked, they became very good friends. In terms of diversity, There wasn't just squirrels or birds in it!
Eddie, my mom, and I all loved this book. Stella did not.
Squirrel and bird make unlikely friends and try out things the other one likes. Cute story about being friends with people different than you. Probably try it again later.
One day a bird flies into squirrel's life. They each think they can't do what the other does, like eating nuts and singing, but with a little encouragement from one another, they find they can. beautiful story and artwork.
Sweet story about becoming friends despite your differences and trying new things. Simple text and great illustrations - perfect for preschool story time.
A welcome message about two new friends who are different one from the other but enjoy each other so much they try each other's behavior and food and find a way to have a long and happy friendship.
