The first book of this series was really good. But this one was a little less so. Jesse seemed more cranky and they seemed to spend all their time on the road. I don't know. It just didn't thrill me like the First one did.
Disappointing. Ridiculous everyone happy for her hopping from one man to another without even taking a few days to get her head on straight. Then she acts like an idiot going off on her own and picking up a stranger while expecting an attempt on her life. And why sudden drop of suspicion of sheriff??? Too much stupid. Will try #4 since already downloaded, but if it disappoints....

A Great Mystery With Extraordinary, Compelling Characters"
This is the first book I've read from the Jesse Watson Series, and it has grabbed me like a Janet Evanovich novel! In this story, Jesse Watson is 32 years old, working for private investigator Billy Blackhawk. They've been sitting in Billy's truck, in the freezing cold, watching Doug Tyler's house in the woods. It's almost Thanksgiving and the snow has arrived early, falling almost a month now. Tyler had hired Billy to locate some people who owed him money, one is a woman who was found murdered. Tyler was cleared of any suspicion, but Billy feels that Tyler murdered her after providing him with her location. After Billy and Jesse leave their surveillance and head to Jesse's home, her mom and sister, Claire, are standing on the porch very upset. Their two dogs, Athena and Thor, had been digging in the back yard and found a woman's severed hand, carrying it to the front porch. After the police arrive, the dogs lead them to the body in the woods on the Watson property. Mary Keen, the wife of a former Green County deputy, has been missing, and it may be her. This novel is a total fun read, it has everything: murder, mayhem, suspense, horror, romance, humor, love... and it moves right a long keeping you wide awake into the night. I loved it, it is totally absorbing like watching a high action thriller movie. You'll enjoy it, too!
I read 3 of this series (#1, #2, #5) out of order and while on vacation. I am not going to try and review them because all the books have run together in my mind. I will say however that I love the series. You really don't have to read in order because the author, while telling the current story, will kind of catch you up on what happened in the past. I really liked that because it gave me a chance to 'remember' what I read in the past. Thank you Ann Mullen for doing that.
Most of my books are free. I'm excited to have found this author this is the third book (2nd book of the series) I believe this books can be read as stand alone but you get finer details with each book. The scenery description is fantastic and the mysteries have been awesome as far as a who done it. On to the next.
I can't help but think this really needs editing. The characters are so choppy. And the main character blows hot and cold and changes her mind about everything depending on what page she's on.
