Detectives Arturo Brooks and Edward Smith have a problem. Following an ill-advised time travel adventure, Smith is immortal...and he's not happy about it. He lashes out by whistleblowing the existence of vampires on daytime television.
The public fallout is immense. While vampires plot revenge, Brooks, Smith, and their family and friends are targeted by protesters, monster rights activists, and an aesthetics-obsessed billionaire ready to make the men an offer that will change their lives (and afterlives) forever.
About the Series:
The Brooks & Smith series presents a satirical take on paranormal detectives. It is often silly, sometimes dark, and never child friendly. Time Purge is Book #2.

This book outdoes itself at every turn. It was darkly hilarious (I laughed out loud so many times, my partner thinks I'm delirious and mildly deranged), and deeply emotional in places. Every character was well-fleshed out, even Mike, and shone under Fetzer's guidance. Zane was a surprising favourite (I loved to hate him. He’s the worst kind of best person), as well as Patience. I found her Puritan values in a modern-day setting devilishly delightful, especially when egged on by Lemon, her unlikely sister and partner in crime. Though, I admit, Smith's POV was my favourite. He is, in fact, an ass, and I absolutely loved him for it. This book hit all the markers of a comedy while keeping itself rooted. The characters have tragic backstories, and deal with, at times, ridiculous trauma, but there’s always something that can be related back to real life. Despite its dark nature, Fetzer's lighthearted jabs at the extreme existentialism experienced by her characters make it relatable, and square down their problems to things not quite so overwhelming. After all, it’s difficult to be concerned with alcoholism when you’re (spoiler) sequestered in your boyfriend’s cyborg brain. This was a great pleasure to read. In fact, I was so happy I purchased it, I purchased the third in the series as well. This was an awesome book.

A really good continuation. I had great fun with the first book in the series: Time Binge, so decided to pick up the second. I had a blast reading this one, probably a bit more so than the first. The reason I felt this book was a little better, is due to the top quality execution of the of humorous elements and the way in which everything from the first book is expanded on just that bit more. In this installment, everything seems a little deeper, a little richer and a little bit better done. Of course, the main themes of time travel, strange creatures/characters and the supernatural are still very much present as is the razor-sharp prose and humorous dialogue. It’s strange to say that in a book with such outlandish themes (and characters), there are so many elements which are relatable. Tragedy, trauma and disappointment all feature but this only helps to ground the plot in an element of reality, allowing the story to really fly. Thoroughly enjoyed this installment of the Brooks & Smith series. On to the third!
The magic of these books is in the character interactions. You can’t really help but believe that a hipster from the future would be more intrigued by a bottle of Pabst blue ribbon than afraid that it had been thrown in her direction. I wonder exactly how much that bottle cap guitar pick would go for on Etsy.
