Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.

She is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.

4 Jack's Back Stars

Mild Spoilers

The Baby Bombshell is the the 2nd book in the Shadow Creek Montana series. It can be read as a stand alone. I didn't read the 1st book and I had no problem following the story. This book was very sweet. Even in the sad moments I couldn't help but smile at the characters in this story. They were all just so lovable and down to earth. Jack was very sweet. He knew he messed up and he was willing to do what ever it took to get the love of his life Lily back. I could understand Jack's pain. He suffered a great loss. I was upset that he was gone for 5 years without saying anything to Lily, but I was so glad that he was faithful to her the whole 5 years. He did other sweet things too while gone that really helped me forgive him. Lily was so relatable. I could feel her pain, her love for Jack and her fear. My heart broke for all the pain she went through when Jack up and left. I loved both Jack and Lily together. Their relationship had a nice build up. No insta forgive and forget. Jack had to earn her trust back. I also loved Jack's whole family. His sister Gwen was funny and very likable. So was his ex-sister n law and his best friend who's love story is in book 1. Now I kinda want to go back and read their book too. The ending of this book was very sweet but more of an HFN than a HEA. I am looking forward to more books by Victoria James.

descriptionI like this cover. Great representation of the story. Good composition. It takes place just after Christmas, so the red and green of the text makes it slightly festive. It loses a star for one of my BIGGEST pet peeves...the author's name is larger than the title. Cue graphic design 101 lecture.description

descriptionI ADORED this book. Simply A-D-O-R-E-D it! This is the exact kind of second chance romance that I eat up by the spoonful. The hero does something to hurt the heroine...he comes back ready to grovel and make it all better. The heroine makes him work for it...yadda yadda yadda. It was an almost perfect book. The only thing I didn't like and why I took a half star off was that the hero He had his reasons and I understood...it still put a dent in his otherwise perfect heroness.

description

Both the books in this series have been top notch reads so far. They are well written. Nicely paced. Have great secondary characters. I am really excited for Gwen's book with her "muffin man" Two HUGE thumbs up from yours truly.description

Side Note: I was just complaining about heroes and their epic love for their heroines but not keeping it in their pants during separations. Well low and behold this hero stayed faithful to Lily for ALL five years he was gone. I think I just saw a pig fly past my window!

4.5 stars.

After reading and reviewing a dozen books by an author, it's hard to come up with something I haven't already said. Victoria James has been a firm favourite of mine since I picked up her first book back in 2013 when I fell completely in love with her writing style and her ability to create emotional stories with wonderful couples set in the most gorgeous of surroundings. And the second in her Shadow Creek, Montana series brings us exactly all of that.

description

Once again she had me reaching for the tissues by the end of the first chapter. And at several points throughout the story. For readers who have read the first book, Christmas With the Sheriff you be familiar with the reason Jack Bailey left Shadow Creek five years previously, but if you haven't don't let that deter you as this is very much a standalone and whilst I was expecting emotion, I didn't realise how much Jack's pain and determination to redeem himself would put me through the ringer. He's nothing but honest from start to finish and if I fell in love with him, the true love of his life, Lily Cookson, doesn't stand a chance.

description

The cover and the title do give away a major part of what happens between Jack and Lily, but this actually only forms a small part of what is a real journey back to one another for both of these characters. I just wish it had been a little bit longer, but I am a bit greedy when it comes to Victoria's stories: there's a reason she's one of my favourite authors, for me she is the queen of the closed-door romance and The Baby Bombshell is a worthy addition to any romance lover's library.

5 - "I came back for you..." Stars!

Victoria James for me is an author that manages to take the ever present tropes for romantic fiction and make them into something special.

The second book in the Shadow Creek, Montana series again took an old and well-loved second-chance story-line and gave it a new deeply emotional and tear-stained twist.

He’d almost broken her once… He’d left her alone and vulnerable, now he was back and vowing to make things right… but he couldn’t.

Five years is a long time, but that is how long it has taken Jack Bailey to work through his issues, and decide to return back to Shadow Creek, having left everything and everyone he loved pretty much behind after burying his twin brother and nephew, Jack has returned with more than a few bridges to build. Mainly with his family and Lily Cookson, the love of his life, and also the woman that now wants absolutely nothing to do with him, because of his desertion all those years ago.

"It’s my job to win your trust back. If it takes me a year or another five, I’ll do it."

There are a lot of layers to this story, and what initially seems as a couple trying to reconnect after a long time apart actually turns into a whole other secondary story as it develops. There is a lot going on with this couple as individuals as well as together, and with each new revelation, the author pushed me to use more tissues. This is a book that grabs your heart very early on, and if you are a bit of a softy like myself, it just keeps getting squeezed and squeezed as things progress.

"He’s the guy you want to hate but just can’t."

I really didn’t though, I just wanted to hug Jack, and shake Lily, and I think it’s because of the dual POV, you are in both characters heads, and it makes everything all the more emotive. There are a lot of secrets, hurts and crossed-wires that this couple have to work through, and it was a rollercoaster of a journey for them both.

Another winner from this author, and I hope that Gwen Bailey gets her book next, she figured a little in this one, and the little teasers towards the end for her potential man have left me itching to see how many tissues I am going to need for sniffling into when Victoria gives her, her story.

“It’s for the best. Well, I have a busy day ahead of me, so time for you to hit the road, since it’s what you do best, anyway.”
His eyes sparkled. “I actually don’t think it’s what I do best.”

Ever since reading Christmas with the Sheriff, I’ve been anxious to read about Jack and Lily. Much like Julia, Jack’s sister-in-law, Jack left town five years ago after his brother and nephew passed away. We knew that grief was a large part of the reason, but I was curious to find out what else had Jack abandoning his family and fiancee, Lily.

When Jack landed back in Shadow Creek, I was rooting for him to win Lily back. I totally got why she was apprehensive, but I am a sucker for a second chance love story and I just loved Jack. Lily was determined to stay strong in her resolve to keep Jack at bay, but a drunken New Years Eve and positive pregnancy test later and she really had her work cut out for her.

“Sure, her being pregnant upped his timeline, but it wasn’t bad news. He’d always wanted kids with her. Of course, having her on speaking terms with him would have made things a little simpler.”

This story was funny, romantic and full of heart, like all other Victoria James stories. I loved Jack and Lily and bonded with all of the secondary characters.

Five years ago tragedy struck and Jack found himself lost in his grief. Believing everyone was better off without him, he left town, abandoning not only his family but also the love of his life, Lily. Now he's back, he's here to stay, determined to mend fences, and earn the forgiveness of his loved ones. Except Lily has no intention of letting him back in, no matter how much she still loves him. Emotions are running high and they share a night of passion and Lily swears that it won't happen again. She soon finds that her plans are all for naught as she learns that she's pregnant.

This was the type of second chance romance that I could immediately get on board with for one HUGE reason... Jack stayed faithful to Lily the entire time they were separated. That's 5 whole years people!! So on top of the fact that the hero grovelled the way a man in the wrong should, on top of the swoon-worthy moments, and on top of the giddiness I felt as Jack and Lily started to heal and move forward together, his faithfulness was the cherry on top.

My only issue with this story was that while Jack was gone, Lily suffered immensely. Yet when he heard about it, while he was still away, he stayed away. I get why he did and I can't predict if I would have done any differently in his shoes, but I know I didn't like it.

Overall this was a solid read with amazing leads and a colorful cast of side characters. I wonder if the "Muffin Man" is the handsome doctor who we met with Jack and Lily *wink*.

This was another great read by this author. Not quite as good as the first but still great. This is Jack and Lily's story. They had a lot of hard feelings and problems to work through. Jack's unwavering commitment to getting Lily back was awesome to read. Also his faithfulness to their relationship even when they were apart was so refreshing. There are not many books like that out there.

This is a very moving story exploring different reactions to tragic events. In this case Jack Bailey couldn’t cope with so he ran, leaving behind his family and his girlfriend, Lily Cookson. Five years later, he’s returned. He’s never kept touch with Lily but he’s determined to win her back and to prove he’s now man enough to stay to face the good times and the bad together . . .

This is a delicious, well paced, second chance romance with great characters, plenty of drama and trauma and, I’m pleased to say, Lily really does make him work to make amends. This author has written several books that I’ve read and reviewed and I love her style. As usual all her characters are complex, including many of the secondary ones as well as the main ones.

The plot has plenty of twists and turns and is a real emotional roller coaster ride. There are many threads to the interactions within the story which are woven together to create a superb tapestry of people, places and events to keep the reader turning pages and wondering how it can all work out well in the end. This is a delightful story that I have no hesitation in highly recommending - and I also recommend checking out other stories by this author, too!

I requested and was given a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion after reading the story.

Five years ago, Jack Bailey left his fiancée, Lily Cookson, and his family following the tragic deaths of his twin brother and nephew. He returns at Christmas for the first time, determined to win back Lily's heart as well as his family's respect. On New Years Eve, he and Lily have their first confrontation and it's life changing.

Jack's reasons for leaving were understandable but staying away so long was harder to reconcile. I liked that the issues weren't so easy to resolve nor clear cut. Both Lily and Jack had secrets and emotional baggage that gets slowly revealed throughout the story, adding layers to the topics and the characters. That the two still love each other is never a question but the crux of it all is how they reach each other in the midst of so much pain. And, it's not just limited to their relationship as the whole family is impacted. Did I mention that Jack's younger sister, Gwen, is Lily's best friend and they're opening a business together?

This is a sweet, heartwarming story of two people wrenched apart by tragedy who try to find their way back emotionally and to each other. The issues are tough, realistic and well presented, though sometimes there was a bit of repetition. I really like this small mountain town and the characters at the center of the series. 3.5 stars

** ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **

What a great read! Second chance love stories can be tricky, but this really worked for me.

Jack was a good hero. After a life altering event rocked his world, he left town leaving his close family and loving fiancée- at a time they all needed him the most. He let 5 years pass before he came back to fix things. Did he mess up? Yes! He also tried to fix what he broke and didn't give up when the going got tough. There was definitely character development and I was happy to see he he was able to heal. He also showed what a true man he was by remaining faithful during the years he was gone. That went a long way in convincing me of his sincerity.

Lily was a fantastic heroine. She had been abandoned by the love of her life when she needed him the most. After suffering another personal loss, she then had to watch her father decline after multiple strokes. She stayed strong and muddled through. When the only man she ever loved -the same man who crushed her- came home, she put up a wall that was hard to scale. I didn't blame her. I normally don't condone a lot of pushing away, but his actions warranted it. She stayed strong and didn't cave the minute he showed her attention. That being said. she listened to him and was compassionate to what he was going through as well. I was happy when they finally got together

-no cheating whatsoever
-no ow or om drama at all - they were both celibate during the separation. It was said she went on a couple dates but nothing came of it becuase she still loved the hero. No other men made appearances.
-pushing away by heroine - with good cause
-not steamy
-no violence of any sort
-HFN ending that was not far into the future at all which was disappointing. (Would have been 5 stars with a better epilogue)

A few things that kept this from reaching 5 stars

Love Victoria James. This was a cute short love story that tugged at your heartstrings and touched your heart. I love the part with the wolves and it made me cry. But I still loved the entire story. Like to read about families.

5 Heartfelt Stars

The Baby Bombshell was a beautiful, heartwarming read.
The storyline was emotional, touching and brought out all the feels.

Jack and Lily were both likable, endearing characters that totally captured my heart. Watching their relationship unfold after what happened five years ago had me crying one minute, laughing and swooning the next.

Walking away from his family and Lily, his fiance was the hardest thing Jack's ever had to do.
When his twin brother and nephew died he needed time on his own to grieve and find peace with the loss. He hated himself for the pain he caused by leaving but at the time his grief/depression made him think it was his only option.

My heart broke for Lily, she had been through so much in the last five years and having the man who walked away with her heart come back declaring he was back and he never stopped loving her, was not easy for her.
How do you get past the hurt, how do you trust the man who walked away to grieve on his own instead of sharing his pain with you?

I'm a huge fan of author Victoria James writing, she's a talented writer who has a special knack of making her readers connect with her characters while taking us on an emotional ride to their HEA.

The Shadow Creek Montana series has been such a joy to read. I've loved each couple, all their stories have been emotional, entertaining and guaranteed to bring out all the feels.

Each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all.

So I didn't read the first book. I may still go back to it.

The series spins out from the death of Jack's twin brother, Matthew and his nephew, five years earlier.
Jack had a meltdown after his twin brother dies tragically in a car wreck with his little boy. There's some backstory there that doesn't get addressed in this book but is revealed in the first book. But anyways, when Jack left, he left behind his fiancee Lily without a backward glance. At least, that is what she sees and knows. Essentially he is not there to support her in the hard times. And there are some terribly hard times!
Then he waltzes back into town and buys the ranch they had discussed getting together before he left.
Now lily is no doormat. Although she does have that moment of weakness obviously (hence the cover of the book). But it really bothered me that she had only made a half hearted attempt at dating in the 5 fricken years after he left. It was kinda pathetic.

So 5 years is a long time to stay away from somebody you love. I gotta say that even though the author crosses all her T's and dots her I's in the redemption department, that the 5 years still really stuck in my craw.
I also did NOT like the way the everybody started jumping on the 'Jack bandwagon' when Lily was resisting him. I would have liked somebody to have stayed in her corner. They'd be like 'Oh I so agree with you that what he did was unforgivable, but... he's a different man now... He's matured... '
There's the big heroic gesture towards the end that is supposed to prove to the reader that he can be dependable now. But a moment of heroism doesn't equate to long haul emotional support in my book.
And the last thing that REALLY bothered me and the author tries to (unsuccessfully) explain away If it weren't for that, I would have been swayed to forgive him.

Safety is good

Super sweet small town romance. This is the second book in the series. Can be read as a standalone or in order.
Lily and Jack were engaged when they experienced a super traumatic event. Jack's twin and his young nephew were killed in an accident. And Jack couldn't deal with it so he left town and left Lily behind.
Now 5 years later he returns to try and win Lily back. But Lily can't seem to put the past behind her and doesn't trust that Jack will leave her again.
And obviously as the title of the book gives it away. Jack gets Lily pregnant. Now she has to figure out if she wants Jack back into her life to raise a child together.
I enjoyed the sweet little romance between them. A pretty emotional story too with death, guilt, and of course love.

I think this review will be short and to the point because I'm quite certain it will not be popular.

Our heroine, Lily, is a sweetheart who has gone through five years of pain and agony because her fiance, Jack the A$$hat, just up and moved away without a word after his twin brother and nephew were killed.

Five years later he returns wanting Lily back. He goes about bugging the heck out of her, pestering her to take him back. I wanted to scream at him to man-up and quit acting like he was in high school. The only thing good that I can see he did was to remain celibate for the five years he was gone because he always knew at some point he would come back for Lily. Too bad he never told her that. But he did let her know he could have had many women...but chose not to. I saw him as a heartless man who I had absolutely no respect for, none, zip, nada! She never got a single phone call or letter...not a solitary word from him for five years and it wounded her beyond repair.

I personally didn't feel like he was ready to do all the hard work it was going to take to win her back. There was way too much of his talking instead of showing. Actions speak louder than words, right? Instead...he smirks at her all the time like he knows she still loves him when she is acting like she doesn't. He wears his arrogance like a badge. His cockiness and attitude made me furious.

Ok, I'll just say it. I despised the hero (who was not in the least a hero to this reader.) I felt strongly that he did not grovel near enough, his attitude sucked, and he was just too fond of himself, a bit too self-righteous. It is saddening when you come to the end of the book and you don't want the hero and heroine together and that is exactly how I felt.

I love this author and have read a handful of her books. The writing in this one was good but I just couldn't get past the hero.

LOVED this one!! It's a fantastic second chance story. Lily and Jack had it all going until tragedy strikes Jack's family and he can't handle things. He leaves town leaving Lily heartbroken. It took him 5 long years to get himself together but he's back now and determined to prove to Lily he's the man she needs and deserves. Lily's not so sure about that though! How far will get go to get her back??

Don't miss this very well done story. Not a ton of angst, nice small town romance that just plucks at the heartstrings. I highly recommend this one.

Jack, unable to look at himself in the mirror, grew a beard five years ago, shortly after the death of his twin, Michael, and nephew, Matthew. He also left his friends, his memories, his family, and his Lily. He's returning home, for good, knowing he needs to repair his relationships, and win back the love of his life.

Lily knew she'd see Jack, her ex-fiance, at the New Year's Eve party. After all, it was at his parents' house, and her best friend, Gwen, is Jack's younger sister. Lily discovered a few things that night, one of them being she never stopped loving him, and when Jack said he hoped she'd found someone else, her heart broke all over again.

"He was a guy who took off for five years and now was back, not for her, but his family." - Lily

Jack understands Lily has every reason to hate him, but still yearns to have her back in his arms. He drives her home from the party, knowing she's too upset, not to mention the alcohol she enjoyed, to do it herself. All he asks for, is a chance to explain his reasoning from five years ago, and a chance to prove he never stopped loving her and will never leave her again.

Lily, determined to protect herself from further pain, and unable to deny the love and chemistry still between her and Jack, agrees to one night. Jack assures her that will prove they're meant to be, though Lily informs him this is all it will be because she no longer trusts him. Tomorrow will be the start of her Jack-free life.

"This was going to be the best biggest mistake of her life." - Lily

Their night only reinforces Jack's certainty they belong together and he proceeds to do everything within his power to prove to Lily that he's changed and will always be by her side.

"I will make it up to you. I promise. I will earn your trust again. I'll wait however long it takes. I love you." - Jack

However, things change as Lily discovers she's pregnant and Jack is even more intent on them becoming a family just as they'd always planned. But, both are keeping secrets. Jack has been a part of Lily's life since he left, though she doesn't know this nor in what capacity. As for Lily, she has some news to share with Jack regarding what she went through after he left.

Can Jack and Lily work through their pain and find their way back to each other? Can Lily ever trust that Jack will stay? What happens when Jack and Lily's secrets are revealed? What reaction will Lily have to Jack's? Will she accept that he did as he felt was best for her, for them in the long run? Will Jack and Lily get the HEA they were always meant to have?

One-click now and follow along as two people are reunited and discover the love is still there and stronger than ever. Though it isn't necessary to read book one, Christmas with the Sheriff, in order to follow along with this story, I do recommend it as the same characters, aside from Jack who was physically absent from the first book, will also be in this one. Also, for those safety curious such as myself, **stop reading now if you don't want to know** we are told, very early in the story, and before Jack and Lily are physical again, that he was not, nor did he even want to be, with anyone else while they were apart. Swoon swoon. That just melted me and I fell for Jack in that moment. Lily was also celibate during the separation.

This is a second chance at love book that moves pretty fast, but it is Lilly who cannot forgive and forget the past and what Jack put her through, unwitting or not.

Both have had heartache, and both dealt with it differently, but now Jack is back to rekindle their romance and will stop at nothing to prove to Lilly that he wants her back for good.

We learn pretty quickly what Lily's big secret is and what has now happened between them and it is only Jacks constant appearance by Lily's side and finding out how Jack has really coped that pulls her close until a near death experience brings them back for good.

Its a good, fairly light-hearted read but does not need to be read as part of the series.

Victoria James slays me with her writing. Every. Single. Time. The Baby Bombshell is no different. This is a second chance love story where tissues are required.

Five years ago, Jack Bailey lost his identical twin brother and young nephew in a horrible accident. Unable to even look at himself in the mirror, he didn't think anyone else could stand to see him either. Not being able to handle his grief, Jack unexpectedly leaves his life in Shadow Creek behind. That life included his parents, younger sister, best friend, and his fiancée. While he was gone, a lot of things changed. But one thing remained the same, his love for Lily Cookson.

Five years of taking life’s bumps and bruises on her own has taken a toll on Lily Cookson. Finally, something is going right in her life. She’s about to open a chocolate shop with her best friend, Gwen Bailey. What she doesn't expect or need is for a Christmas miracle in the form of Jack Bailey returning to his family and knocking her world on its axis.

Jack knows he has a lot of making up to do, not only with his family but with Lily. In the five years since he's been gone, he has never contacted her once. But that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been following her life. He's now ready to be the man he should have been 5 years ago, both with his family, friends, and especially Lily. “Give me tonight. One night to prove to you that we still belong together.”

The Baby Bombshell is a second chance love story full of secrets and regrets. But this is also a story full of love, perseverance, and determination. “I still love you and I’m not going to throw in the towel. I will fight for you.”

Victoria James takes readers on an incredible journey. While Jack and Lily’s road to a happy-ever-after isn’t smooth, Victoria does show that love is a powerful thing and worth fighting for. Prepare to lose yourself in this wonderful story that will have your heart breaking, only to be put back together again.

I loved the second book in the Shadow Creek series. Once I started it I didn't want to put it down. Jack and Michael were twins. Michael was married to Julia and they had a little boy, Matthew. Jack was engaged to Lily. Then tragedy struck and Michael and Matthew were killed in an accident. In the blink of an eye everyone's life was changed forever. Jack couldn't deal with his brother's and nephew's deaths, not when he should have been the one taking Matthew to the movie that night. Unable to handle the loss, Jack leaves Shadow Creek and Lily, the love of his life.

Fast forward a few years and Jack is ready to head home, to face his demons and hopefully win Lily back. He's never forgotten her or what they had together but knows it's going to be difficult persuading her to forgive him. His parents and his sister too. However, Jack is determined to prove Lily can trust him, that he'll never leave her again.

Lily might as well have died along with Michael and Matthew that night, so devastated was she by Jack's desertion. They'd planned to get married, had plotted a life together, not to mention she'd been pregnant when Jack took off. She never had a chance to tell him he was going to be a father. And he wasn't there to help her pick up the pieces when she miscarried. She'd been forced to go it alone, never telling a single soul what had happened. Not even her best friend, Gwen, had known Lily was pregnant. Because Gwen was Jack's sister and buried in grief herself, Lily hadn't wanted to pile her own problems on top of what Gwen's family was already going through.

Now Jack is back. One look at him and Lily knows she's in trouble. In spite of his betrayal she's still in love with him. She aches to pick up where they left off but how can she ever trust him again after what he did to her? Then a brief lapse in judgment and what she thought would be a one night stand with Jack, turns into a whole lot more when Lily discovers she's pregnant.

This was a second chance romance at its best. The plot, while pretty common and often used, has a fresh feel to it in this book because the characters don't act like you'd expect them to. There are a couple surprises along the way, secrets Jack kept that Lily uncovers during the course of their newfound relationship. This puts a different spin on things and helps Jack convince Lily he's sincere. I can't say too much because I don't want to give anything away.

I also have to say that the emotional aspect of the story was very well done. I was pulled right into Jack's heartache and hurt for him with all he'd been through. Losing his twin was like losing a big chunk of himself and he was so young when it happened. I can understand him wanting to get away from Shadow Creek where every place he went reminded him of what he'd lost. I could also empathize with Lily. All her hopes and dreams vanished the moment Jack left town and while she understood his reasoning for it, what she couldn't get past was his leaving her behind.

If I could have given this another star I would have because it punched all the right buttons with me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who's a fan of this type of romance.

A couple separated by their past and further disconnected as time passed on. That’s what mostly appealed me to this book. Plus, add reconciliation chance to the mix and add a baby (or two) on top of it and it was the perfect combination for me. It’s just the type of contemporary romance I was looking for.

I cannot believe going into this book, I was expecting a Harlequin type of story which mostly is a short and light read but a bit of emotional too given the plot. Well, it was short since I finished it in around three to four hours. As for the light read – it certainly was NOT! I hit the head on the emotional part though, but I wasn’t expecting how much emotions come into play here. What I got was a ‘terrible ugly cry’ book and I loved every moment of it. (Hopefully no one misunderstands the meaning of the last sentence. Terrible as in describing the scale of the ugly cry portions of the book.)

Oh My Gosh I cannot stop crying. And once I had myself under control, another chapter would get me again. I haven’t cried this much since the latest Colleen Hoover book dropped. Seriously, I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was psyching myself for a feel good and down-on-your-knees groveling type of book, but the first few chapters blew all those expectations away. It positively was better than what I thought I would get, that’s for sure. And it’s so obvious this is the first book from this author that I have read, certainly not the last.

The Baby Bombshell had surprised me all throughout the book. It was full of angst but also tended to be very sweet. I felt for Jack as he tried to get his life back on track with the people he left behind. But you can also feel the emotions felt by his sister, his parents, his friend and most of all Lily and what happened to them when Jack left. It certainly was an overwhelming book.
This book is all about second chances, faith, family, friendship, and love.

Jack Bailey broke Lily Cookson's heart when he called off their engagement and left town after losing his twin brother and nephew in an accident. But now he's back in Shadow Creek, determined to win Lily back. However, he soon discovers he isn't going to have the easiest time doing that, especially when Lily isn't willing to give him the time of the day. Yet, when she learns she's pregnant after they spend one night together, will the past repeat itself or will Jack prove how much he wants a second chance at love, family, happiness?

What an engaging and heartwarming second chance romance Ms. James has penned in this story, which tugged at my heart-strings and didn't disappoint. The way this story started with the prologue sets the fast-pace of this story, and made me determined to discover more about Jack, what he's gone through in the time he's been away and what happened to make him run instead of allowing those that love him to help him through his grief. However, it was moment he comes face-to-face with Lily again that made this story really intriguing. Would Lily give him the time of day to explain why he needed to leave Shadow Creek when he did?

With this being a story about second chances, healing and finding forgiveness, both the main characters are incredible. Jack is determined to win back Lily's trust by doing everything he can to prove he won't leave again while Lily is determined not to let him back into her life until the moment where she feels she has no choice. It's hard on both sides, because they have so much chemistry, but the fact that Jack left at a time when he needed those he loves most has made Lily bitter. How does she know that if she gives Jack another chance that he won't leave if the going gets tough and he can't handle it?

Jack faces a tough challenge in getting Lily to listen, but I liked that he didn't give up, no matter how stubborn she was. I also felt sorry for him, because he has so much guilt over what happened to his brother and the fact that he left town after his twin and nephew died. How can he make it up to his family and Lily? Will he be able to? How will he finally be able to let go of the past, so that he can have a future with Lily? While Lily, I could understand why she's bitter and unwilling to give Jack another chance. Not only because of the fact that he deserted her, but because of the secret she's keeping. I also liked the adventure she's about to embark on with her best friend, because their business is no doubt going to be a success.

Moreover, I liked how the secondary characters in Jack's family aren't afraid to give their advice on how they believe Jack and Lily are a meant-to-be couple and that they shouldn't let anything stand in the way of them being together again. Yet, in saying that, I could understand why Jack's sister was so torn, because Lily is also her best friend and after what Lily went through when Jack left, it isn't easy to forgive him.

Overall, just like all of Ms. James's books, this story was a worthwhile read that has me looking forward to more of this series, especially with what was revealed in the epilogue about a muffin man. The way this story ended had me worried for the main characters because of what they go through. Luckily, Jack is there for Lily when she needs him most and I loved the words Lily said to the hero in the epilogue, because they're definitely a couple meant-to-be. I would highly recommend The Baby Bombshell by Victoria James, especially if you enjoy the surprise pregnancy trope, second chance romances; or sweet reads where the couple are meant-to-be, no matter what they have to face on their journey to happy ever after.

The Baby Bombshell took me for an emotional roll-a-coaster ride, every moment of the story filled with big feelings and intense ambiance.
I ended up inhaling the tale at one sitting with a box of tissues next to me, while completely lost in the world of the characters, feeling everything from the pain of the past hurt to the joy of the present jubilee, as the tale was forever so fluently flowing off the pages.
Jack Bailey demonstrated remarkable character development throughout the story. He had to leave his home to be able to deal with and accept the deep sorrow for the loss of his brother and nephew, yet he used that time away to grow as a man, and make it possible to return home and make a future there. His struggles were deep felt, he had no ill intentions with his withdrawal from his loved ones. I admired how he used his time away, and his loyalty to Lily even though they were apart for so many years. His struggle to have faith, in himself and in the future, were touching. He had made some tough decisions in his past, some of them maybe hard to understand, yet each of them proved to be wise moves when looking at the bigger picture.
Lily Cookson was on the edge for fulfilling her career dreams when her life went all haywire with Jack's return. She hadn't had it easy, financially or with personal matters. I felt for Lily, her struggles broke my heart, but she had managed despite everything she had had to face on her own. She was a strong, capable, smart woman, easy to like and cheer for her success.
The connection between Lily and Jack was palpable, the energy between them was tangible every time they were in the same room. The love, adoration, the passion they had for each other was obviously meant to be. The road they had to take, the past mistakes and hurt they had to face, it was heartfelt, yet there was hope in the air, they just had to learn to have faith in the future, and learn to trust again without fear.
This story with its high emotions, upheavals, and ardor was an experience I enjoyed, the perfect romance story that touches your heart and stays in your mind long after the end. A story of loss and pain, faith and trust, hope and love, a splendid tale, indeed!

“I never stopped loving you.”

It's the simplest—and most complicated—sentiment in the world, and it's the reason I love second chance romance so much. “I never stopped loving you.” Cue all the swooning, please and thank you.

And there is a lot of swooning to be done in The Baby Bombshell. This is a book that makes a promise and delivers—it's a sweet, blissful, emotional take two for a couple that just HAS to be together. No ifs, no buts, no maybes. It's confused feelings, repressed anger, hidden faces and unspoken words, and it was So. Damn. Good.

I loved Jack. I hated his choice, I mourned his pain, but I loved his strength, his commitment to making it right, his faith. He was big and manly and determined—a sexy hero who knows his failings and is determined to do better. So, yeah, I loved him, but even more than I loved Jack, I loved Lily.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I admired her will. I felt her love for Jack, sensed her struggle to remain distant, and I wanted her to cave SO BAD, but I also appreciated her need to protect her heart. She didn't simper or whimper, she spoke her truth and it made want to hug her. It also helps she makes chocolates, because who doesn't want to be friends with a chocolatier?

Surprisingly, it wasn't until I started this book that I recalled having read (and truly enjoyed) the first book in this series. It made me cry—just like this one. It made me swoon—just like this one. And it made me want more for this series—just like this one.

I have a feeling I'm never going to stop loving it.

“I will make it up to you, I promise. I will earn your trust again. I’ll wait however long it takes. I love you.”

The Baby Bombshell is a hopeful second chance romance. Secrets, fears, and dreams make up Jack and Lily's story, past and present.

Lily is strong, self reliant, and protective of herself. She has a small, close circle of friends. After 5 years, her ex-fiancé, who took off five years ago decides it's time to come home. One hot night together results in old dreams coming true. But it's not a present dream...

Jack finally returns to his hometown, his family, and his ex fiancée after leaving to find himself after a heart breaking situation.

I found myself enthralled with this storyline, the masterful writing, perfect pacing and the deep, dimensional characters. Jack and Lily's story was unexpected, sexy and sweet.

This was a really cute and sweet story of second chances, loss, forgiveness and knowing the one person is the "one" for you! I read this nonstop and I may have lost some sleep because I read straight through but it was well worth it! I love the family connections here!

My heart went out to Jake because his twin brother died and he couldn't bear to look at himself in the mirror seeing his twin instead of himself. So he left for 5 years and then came back to his family and ex-fiance to seek forgiveness because his head was on a little better now!

What I really liked was the part in the synopsis about his secret because when you think, ok this is it and it's nothing! Well when it comes out; well -yeah, I was floored!

Jake was determined to win Lily over again and help her trust him again. I swooned!

If you love wolves, faith, second chances, family, secrets, babies, overcoming loss, and snow then this might be for you!

The Baby Bombshell by Victoria James, is an engaging, emotional novella. I cheered, smiled many times, and shed quite a few tears throughout this well-written story. Ms. James is one of my go to authors, because her effortless writing style brings happiness into my life. This is the second book from her Shadow Creek Montana series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Five years ago, Lily Cookson and Jack Bailey were madly in love and engaged to be married. Then tragedy struck, and Jack felt compelled to leave town. He left everything he ever loved, because he was a complete emotional mess. Lily was devastated as well, so when her life completely spiraled out of control soon after, she could only rely on herself. Now Jack has returned, trying to earn back the trust and love that he temporarily lost from his family, friends, and most importantly Lily, the love of his life. Lily slowly lets Jack back into her life, because she never stopped loving him.

I loved this emotional and passionate novella. The story is so good and well written, I could not put it down. Ms. James nicely combines the inquisitiveness of small-town-living, love, and angst to create a seductive and meaningful book. Don't pass up the opportunity to read The Baby Bombshell.

Victoria James wrote a good romance story that I really enjoyed. This is a really good story that is full of complex emotions. This is the second book in the Shadow Creek, Montana series and the main couple in this book is Jack Bailey & Lily Cookson.
They were lovers years before but he up and left her 5 years before. Now Jack has returned , ready to mend fences with his family and with the one he loved and left behind—Lily. Only she wants nothing to do with him and could care less what happens to him because of what he did to her all the years ago.
I want to really speak more to all the layers, all the twists and turns this story took but it would give spoilers away. What I can say this is more than a 2nd chance love story, it’s a deeply emotional lovers to heartbreak to 2nd chance love story with a complex twist. You will get hooked on the past and on the characters all involved . Get your tissues ready –because this is one of those stories that will have you on the edge of your seat, with the will she or wont she forgive him question.

I’m a reader who will pt myself into a character’s shoes, especially when they do something that puzzles me or doesn’t make sense. The dual points of view of Lily and Jack helped me make sense of actions taken, and the mindset at the time as well. The Baby Bombshell is both heartbreaking and heartwarming in different aspects of this romance. Lily and Jack once had the world at their fingertips, about to be married, love strong – life couldn’t get much better. Until it all disappeared. When Jack’s twin brother and his nephew were killed, Jack went into a grief stricken depression that sent him away from everyone he loved – his family, the woman he loved. He couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that he and his family would never see his brother again – except when they looked at him and would be reminded of what they’d all lost. Jack ran, and it took him five long years to finally get himself settled again. Five long years of remaining faithful to the woman he loved and now wanted a life with once again. Five years… when he’d known what Lily went through and he wasn’t able, couldn’t bring himself to be beside her when she’d needed him the most.

Lily could not believe Jack was actually here. Five long years worth of anger, despair, loneliness, pain and sadness exploded on her senses in that one moment’s glance. And then she remembered – she was done with Jack. Second chances? No, not going to happen not when he’d destroyed everything they’d had, not when he’d run away from and not run to her when he needed her, and later when she needed him. No, they were done. Yet, one night with her guard down, one night when she let herself feel everything for him again wasn’t supposed to happen, and wouldn’t happen ever again. Except for one small consequence from that night or maybe the second chance they both needed.

The Baby Bombshell is Victoria James giving us what she does best – an emotional story that is life-like in it’s depth, reasons and results. Jack made mistakes, he owned up to them and he groveled so well. It’s obvious that he needed the time away, needed to pull himself together again in order to be a man who could tackle life once again with his love. While it’s realistic, the one part that I still cannot wrap my mind around is that when Lily truly needed him back, he simply couldn’t. Lily has strengths she doesn’t even realize yet. She’s determined to not let Jack back into her life. He left her once, and if she opened up herself again and he left again she wouldn’t survive it this time. While she had one bombshell to drop – Jack had an even bigger one, and forgiving that would be the greatest test of her love for this man.

I enjoyed this second story in the Shadow Creek, Montana series, we get a chance to revisit with old friends and perhaps even get a glimpse of the next romance to hit town. If you are a Romance reader, then The Baby Bombshell will hit all the right spots and deliver a loving, realistic, enjoyable story.
