When I started this book, I was expecting a romantic little novel about this gal, Mary Sue. But nothing is further from the truth. I was already hooked at the introductions and found myself surprised that I hadn't even started the 1st chapter yet. This book is a must for everybody who loves writing. The writer takes you by the hand and leads you gently through the failures any writer might stumble upon and sets them straight. I finally learned who Mary Sue is and how to avoid her; I learned how to look at my writing from different aspects and angles. With exercises to do and examples to compare the writer helps you in a witty manner to find the antidote for any writers’ illness. This should be on the shelf of every great and… not so great writer.
A hilarious trip through all the ways stories can turn into extensions of a character and how you can fix it. It doesn't treat creating a Mary-sue like a crime, just a mistake.
