A wonderful story about a boy and his friendship with a little marmalade cat.
When Harry rescues a small kitten, little does he know that it will lead him on an adventure told through the animals that the people he meets remember. After naming him Little Houdini after the escape artist he is forced to deal with the fact that his father won't let him have a cat and that the little guy is destined to be a birthday present to Winston Churchill.
I absolutely loved all the stories about Churchill's various pets. I wasn't aware that he had been such an animal lover, and to have the various histories of cats, dogs and pigs told here was a delight to read. Mixing it with some history, Rix creates a great way to teach history to animal lovers.

It is a clever story where the reader gleans information about WW2 and Winston Churchill without realising it. A heartwarming tale throughout. Easy to read for a young reader.

This is a brilliant story about a marmalade kitten that gets saved by a young boy. I WOULD definitely recommend this book.

Winston And The Marmalade Cat by Megan Rix is a perfectly charming historical novel and just perfect for ages ten years and over. No matter what your age, if you are an animal lover, this book is for you.
The action is set in 1962 and is grounded in fact as we meet Sir Winston Churchill and hear of some of the animals he has rescued.
We follow a young boy who volunteers for the RSPCA and who rescues a small kitten whom he names, Little Houdini. The pair form a bond. As the kitten’s name suggests, he is a bit of an escape artist!
Chartwell, Sir Winston’s home is in Kent. The reader ‘visits’ the grounds due to some very descriptive passages from Megan Rix.
The book includes some basic historical information on Sir Winston; questions on the book and a recipe for scones. It is a perfectly charming read as well as providing interactions and activities for the reader.
The whole story comes alive under Megan Rix’s masterful pen as the reader bonds with a young boy and a small kitten.

Bit childish, but still fun. I like how much everyone loved the animals and I also liked it when they talked about Winstons history.

I mean what can I really say it was a quick read out of curiosity. It was a cute little book with some sweet characters.
