Books. Books. Books.

I love looking at them, smelling them, reading them, carrying them, writing them.

I have an addiction. Someone help me.

I'll read anything from historical romance to fast action thrillers, gritty urban to fantasy.

When it comes to writing, I'm more of a romance gal. Expect admirable heroines, swoony gentlemen and some r-rated fun.

This is a serviceable contemporary romance that featured a likeable enough pair.

But, there are a couple of things that keep as this as an 'ok read' rather than a 'really good' read'

The set up has possibilities. Snow, the heroine has a volatile on again, off again relationship with her boyfriend of 12 years. As the book begins he's thrown up on her new couch, drives while drunk and had run over the bike of a little neighbor girl. This is the last straw for Snow. She throws him out.

In the restaurant where she works, her relationship woes are of great entertainment value to all the other sous-chefs. But for the head chef and owner, Grey, it represents the possibility that this time the break up is for real and he can finally get his chance to romance Snow.

So yeah potentially good set up with some built in conflicts -- the boyfriend who has been in the picture for so long and who has taken her for granted and also the tricky situation with the being romantically involved with your boss.

However neither one of these things was executed quite right, imo. the ex-boyfriend was too big of an issue and the romance with the boss in the workplace was not enough of an issue.

Snow's ex felt like he hovered a little too much over the new romance. Even though she said she was done, I had a hard time believing her just like Grey did. She felt like an unreliable narrator. And honestly she didn't do enough right away to excise the ex from her life. She lived in a gated community why not tell the guard to deny him entrance? He had keys to her place, why not change the locks right away? And I had to wonder why this time was the straw? I don't know if that was sold very well.

The other issue is the boss/employee relationship. No one seemed to have any problems with it. You'd expect the nosy, busybody coworkers would have opinions. Wouldn't some people feel resentful? Wouldn't some be jealous? Wouldn't some give her the side-eye? It was all "squee!!'.

Also, given that this is a workplace romance there was very, very little about what happens in the kitchen of a busy restaurant. Now, I wasn't expecting Kitchen Confidential levels of stuff, but setting a romance in a the kitchen of a restaurant should have at least led to scrumptious descriptions of food and made me super hungry. Or slipped in some cooking techniques . But what there was of it was relegated to the chefs gossiping about Snow's love life while they chopped stuff and plated stuff. That was it.

Hence the romance was serviceable but nothing really elevated it.

Great Read

It's a shame that I have to give this book two stars. ONLY for grammatical errors. Few and far between, but because the story was so dang good the errors annoyed me. Verji weaves a fantastic story! So I'm grading her hard because a writer of this caliber knows better. Read the book it's sexy and fun. Grab your fave bottle of vino...kick back on the chase lounge and enjoy.

This story is about not wanting to become the rebound especially with someone you really want to be with. Snow is just getting out of a 12 year on and off relationship to someone I would deem an alcoholic but the author doesn't come out and say it but it's quite obvious based on the fact that Charlie is drunk in every scene. Snow has been working as a Sous Chef under Greyson for the past three years during this time Greyson has had feelings for her but never made a move due to her on and off relationship. When Snow breaks up with Charlie this last time, he decides to make his move. I actually enjoyed this book, it had elements of Greyson being a Gordon Ramsey type chef scaring everyone in the kitchen but also being tender when pursuing Snow. The author's development of the relationship between Snow and Greyson is realistic, no one wants to be a rebound and who wants to pursue a relationship with someone when your ex is still in your life. The only elements I didn't care for were that they both had issues with their parents but the storylines were wrapped up with a neat little bow with issues not really being resolved when the characters made it an issue throughout the book. This is also a slow burn type of read so your not going to get a bunch of sex scenes between the characters.

Too many grammatical errors, for starters. The story was also just ~okay. I get they dated for 12 years, but Snow let Charlie linger in her life longer than she should have. She threatened plenty, but did very little to get Charlie to go away. She is a pushover for sure - the scene with Marlene on the phone about meeting up shows that. She owes that woman nothing and she doesn’t even call her out about her schedule? Like whatever.

Greysen was also just eh for me. The way he shut her out a bunch when he was feeling stuff was immature and annoying. Not a fan of him in the beginning insinuating she wasn’t smart enough for med school even if it was in jest.

The fact that her dad never even apologized for how shitty he was to her all because she didn’t want to be a doctor was weird. Snow had to initiate the conversation where only she apologized?? Ridiculous. “You weren’t answering my calls” like the effort is so minimal for this guy. Also, the obsession with the main characters going to family dinner when they’re 100% miserable when they’re there got old. Snow doesn’t want to feel othered in her own family, but sure let’s make step mom happy.

Back to Charlie: that relationship was too heavy in this story that was meant to be a love story about Snow and Greysen. Again, though, Snow seemed to drag her feet on being forceful with Charlie. Greysen had a weird vibe to him, though. Also the lack out !!!!! About Snow and Greysen dating was interesting because you’d think it’d become a huge thing in the kitchen, but alas.

This book was fine but it wasn’t great.

Stupid =/= Romantic

The thing for me, when I read steamy adult romances, is that I don't want something too real nor too fanciful. It's a hard balance in adult urban romancelandia, I admit that. I just couldn't finish this, though. The FMC was so stupid, and I couldn't even figure out where it stemmed from. She's gotten terrible advice "from a friend," and I didn't stick around to see if said friend was another conflict point or just as stupid as the FMC. The conflict/ Big Bad was maybe 1-dimensional at best. I'm going to hope this was an early book. Because I really want to like the author, I overlooked editing issues, though this is also way too long.

Good enough read but fell a little short. Greyson was passive aggressive in his pursuit of Snow never clearly communicating about his resistance while Snow clearly has co-dependency issues definitely with Charlie and even with Greyson.

She would allow Greyson to shut down; be upset with him and then try to reconnect despite his detachment.

Glad they were finally able to communicate openly. In the end, I was happy to see them get together and start a promisingly new start.

Cute story

Snow and Grey cute couple a bit immature. Both have parental issues. Slow moving story. Editing needed had to re-read a couple of passages a few times. Love scenes a bit limited. Good to know girl not pregnant. They have issues she is coming out of a twelve year relationship, where her boyfriend is way more immature then her and Grey so I guess it's a step up.

I had enjoyed reading about Snow and Greyson love story. I kind wish there were more passion, it took to long for them to get to the point. Overall the story was a good read.

Recipe For Love

A love story with a little heat, some surprises and a little drama. I enjoyed reading Greyson and Snow's story with their family machinations and the antics of their likable friends. Looking forward to reading Roman and April's book.

This was such a sweet book, that I didn't want to put it down. Very well written, with very minor editing needed. I lived the characters and can't wait to see Roman and April's story.

Very cute! More like 3.5 stars! It was great flowed well, but Charlie’s antics did get tiresome and Oscar was literally terrible. But, overall it was a good plot with a good closing of the MCs main issues.

Immature characters

Great story line concept but the characters cause the story to get lost in translation…very shallow in the development of the main characters and most of the other characters had no depth as well. Maybe the other books in the series will redeem the first book!

Enjoyed this book. Snow and Grey had great chemistry. Her ex and his Mom were real pieces of work. A few editing mistakes but nothing major.

Great book. A lot of misunderstanding because Chef was not willing to share his issues with Snow. His past issues were causing problems developing and keeping lasting relationships. Great read

Okay Read

Snow really aggravated me for most of this book as far as Charlie was concerned. If you're done with him, why not change your locks and tell security at your gated complex to not let him in. You don't change your locks until he shows up at your place of employment with another woman, but you still don't tell security to not let him in. Charlie shows up at your apartment a couple weeks later drunk and disturbing the peace because he can come and go as he pleases at your gated complex and you refuse to let anyone call the police and you let him spend the night. Even after he sobers up and wakes you up at 2 am to talk, you still don't make him leave your apartment. You finally decide to tell security to not let him in after Greyson shows up the next morning and Charlie answers the door in his boxer briefs.

I liked Greyson and he was a good man for putting up with the unnecessary nonsense.

I deducted a star for the numerous grammatical errors and missing words.

Boring

Boring up until the last few chapters. I don't know what the author was thinking but I didn't really cat for any of the characters.
