Ten years ago, Kayla Campbell made the biggest mistake of her life. She thought the hasty Vegas marriage had been annulled, only to find out she was wrong. So wrong. Desperate to house a needy foster kid, she’s forced to request help from the one man she promised herself to forget—ranch foreman Nate O’Malley.
Nate has waited years for his chance to make things right with Kayla. He was a twenty-year-old kid when he let her get away—and he’s regretted it ever since. She wants to pretend they’re married? Fine by him, as long as it gets him close enough for her to see he’s the kind of guy who sticks around.
But Kayla’s walls are as high as ever, and having a foster kid underfoot reminding her of all the ways they’re not compatible makes Nate’s task seem impossible. Can the stubborn cowboy show her he can provide the forever family she’s always wanted?
Lacy Williams wishes her writing career was more like what you see on Hallmark movies: dreamy brainstorming from a French chateau or a few minutes at the computer in a million-dollar New York City penthouse. In reality, she’s up before the sun, putting words on the page before her kids wake up for the day. Those early-morning and late-night writing sessions add up, and Lacy has published fifty books in almost a decade, first with a big five publisher and then as an indie author. When she needs to refill the well, you can find Lacy birdwatching, gardening, biking with the kiddos, or walking the dog. I'm sensing a trend for this series, and unfortunately it's not one I like. The H is always too passive, too sensitive, (a separation of ten years is just too much when you're still in love with someone who's available) while the h is emotionally messed up and so slow to let herself be vulnerable by loving the H. I'm not sure I'm going to continue with this series. At least there's only one story left. :)
Overall, this is still a sweet and clean romance that features an H who has been celibate for the past ten years. Sure, he was utterly ridiculous to think that things would be relatively easily restored between him and h after all that time, but major points to him for staying faithful to her and their marriage.
9. Book 9: Keeping Kayla: 4 stars I purchased a copy of the novella Keeping Kayla: Kayla and Nate in the Cowboy Fairytales books 1-10 boxset by Lacy Williams and this review was given freely. A short fast paced story containing wonderful characters and some drama. A rash action at age nineteen comes back to haunt Kayla Campbell but turns out to be a blessing in disguise when she decides to foster ten-year-old orphan Miles. After ten years, a technicality reunites Triple H Foreman Nate O’Malley with his childhood bride, dog rescuing former foster child Kayla Campbell, reinforcing his determination to win her back. . 10. Book 10: Melting Megan: 4 stars I purchased a copy of the novella Melting Megan: Megan and Dan in the Cowboy Fairytales books 1-10 boxset by Lacy Williams and this review was given freely. Interesting characters and a bit of drama. Former Triple H ranch hand and reformed gambler Dan Evans receives early parole, is welcomed back to the ranch, struggles with his sense of self worth and need to pay the Hale’s back while falling in love with single guardian Dr. Megan Fuller.
Audiobook: Kayla’s feelings of abandonment and her need to rescue kids and dogs added depth to this novella, but I wasn’t as convinced that Nate would have hung around but not pursued his legal wife for ten years. Still it was a good read, and I’ve enjoyed listening to the nine novellas in this series that are available in audio.
Robin’s Ratings 5🌟 = Out of this world. Amazing. Unforgettable. A personal favorite. 4🌟 = Excellent read. Couldn’t put it down. Will recommend to others. 3🌟 = Liked it. Glad I read it. Engaging/entertaining/interesting. 2🌟 = The book was okay, but I’ve enjoyed other books so much more. 1🌟 = For whatever reason, I didn’t like it and can’t recommend it.
How exciting this book was, it had a wonderful curveball and it was like none of the other books mentioned this. But it kept me on edge as it all played out. Talk about second chances, Kayla got a second chance with love, giving second chances with her shelter home, for Miles, marriage. But mainly a first chance to have her forever family and life.
She hopes to start a dog rescue & is a skilled dog trainer. She owns the farm & a barn and has some dogs in her care. She finds a stray kid in her barn & knows what that feels like. She lived it 1st hand with her sister. An HEA & expanded understanding of foster care bumps & bruises.
Kayla and her sister were raised as foster children. 10 years ago Kayla and Nate went to vegas and married but the next day Kayla knew it would never work as they were from too different worlds. Now Kayla finds they never got an annulment and she is trying to get a foster child in her care....Nate loves Kayla and together they make it work
This is a great story of love and faith overcoming anything to become a forever family with not only each other but with a scared little boy and loveable dogs too.
Dogs, orphans, lost love that never died! What better way to start a story?? Love this addition to a great series! Each new story fills in more details on the cowboys who work the HHH! Good read!
Nathan has a second chance at love if he can get it right this time. Kayla carries emotional scars from her childhood but that is what makes her the special caring person she is. In this book we glimpse the world of childhood trauma from social services and also the need for animal shelters.
This series has been one of the best series I have read in a while. I have really enjoyed the passion that this author has brought out and all the characters are perfect.
Not my normal cup of tea, but it was a fun, quick read. I picked it up because the name of the heroine (Kayla), and almost put it down because of the name of the hero (Nate). Glad I didn’t. Her characterization is good without being groan worthy.
This was a fantastic Contemporary Christian fiction book. The story was believable and the characters were heartwarming. I was able to read a copy of this book via Overdrive, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own
Wonderful ending! When it’s meant to be, not even time and space will keep true love apart!! Lacy wraps up this series with a perfect tale of redemption and real forever love!
I enjoyed reading this book about Kayla and Nate's story. You should read this book to see how things are worked out in this story. It is very interesting.
