Ferdie is one of The Seven, a group of humans gifted with supernatural abilities. Tragically, while still in middle school in Bakersfield, California, his power killed others, and plunged him into a supernatural shadow world, where an enemy of earth-shattering power awaits. He needs help, here as dubious angels, sketchy demons, and best friend Marshall "Marsh-dog" Nolan, a pint-sized computer genius with a giant 'fro.
First, I want to say that I decided to read this book after seeing a post on Goodreads asking people which cover the author should choose for it. (The cover showing is not the new cover BTW.) This is not my usual genre to go to but the blurb along with the cover intrigued me enough to grab it among other titles I already had.
Now for the genre, I believe this would be perfect for YA and maybe even MG. While it's dark and there are lots of deaths, the author keeps it light and even adds some jokes that young readers will surely love.
Mr. Buenafe doesn't dwell on the bad stuff. It happens but we just go with the flow and follow the MC. People die around them, loads of them. Bad things happen, real bad things. I mean, at some point, even I didn't know who they should trust and what they should do.
I love the parts where Ferdie learns how to use his powers. I also love the dilemma between helping the demon or the angels. But, above all, I love Ferdie's voice. You can feel in his speech that he's young. He talks like a teenager, acts and thinks like one too. So you don't get mixed feelings there.
Character wise though, while I liked Ferdie I think my favorite was Arnie (the demon). If all demons were like him, hell might not be so bad after all.
Highly entertaining and imaginative. I would recommend for YA and MG but with parental advisory for the murders and deaths. It may not be suited for all children.
Hope to get paper copies of this book for my classroom library. Fast paced fantasy horror... Rick Riordan meets Darren Shan. Middle school boys will love this series.
As a high school English teacher, I know my students would love this book. Not my usual genre-- but the comic relief made a dark read enjoyable. Good for young adults.
Now my first review was horrible so let's start over. Now this is great book .When I found out you were local author I wasn't interested due to books I've read before.but when my teacher read the first few pages of the book I wanted a copy immediately.I was the first one to raise My hand. This book was very interesting I liked all the intense moments and the lovable characters. I loved how I was on the edge of the seat when it was the end of the day.I couldn't stop reading it.I would recommend this book to ages 12-19.Thank you and reading book 2 and it is going better than expected.

Anne Kinslow. I enjoyed this book as it had a dark side and also a humorous side too. I found myself chuckling many times throughout the book whilst reading parts of Ferdie’s experiences and reactions while moving to and from “ The In between Zone” A great book that I highly recommend.
Ferdie is a young man with sensitivities and a horrible past life. Ferdie’s story is full of tragedy, strange events and the struggles of a lifetime. He is caught in the middle of a battle between angels, demons and humans. The adventures that Ferdie and friends have to go through, prove to be horrendous, full of action and sometimes very bloody. Ferdie has abilities that make him a target for some powerful entity, however, we don’t know who it is or why. Read to get a view of Ferdie’s powers and how he learns to use them. Exciting and fast paced!
I completely enjoyed this book! It was exciting and thought provoking. The story about Ferdie and his special abilities, and the questions of good and evil, was extremely well written. I cared very much for the main characters, and found myself wondering how anyone can really know who and what is evil when both sides are saying that they are the good. I cannot wait for the next installment!
This book is a great read for teens and adults alike. It was action packed and a page turner. Lots of comic relief and some drama too! I really enjoyed reading this book and am anxiously awaiting Book 2!!!!
An interestingly dark tale that pulls the reader in from the first pages. I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable, exciting, edge-of-your-seat kind of read and with such an original plot and storyline. Ferdie and the Seven is more than just a great book... it is, without a doubt, a thrilling , adventurous, moving experience!
It may be unfair for me to give 2 stars to this book, especially because I could not finish it. I tried, I truly, really tried. No way. Insipid, childish, boooooooring to the extreme, nor head nor tails. Don't know which character irritated me the most: the boys, the angel or the demon. In fact, ALL of them.
This is a good, young adult novel about good vs. evil, with some interesting/unique concepts about those dimensions often referred to as 'heaven' and 'hell' and how a person. I enjoyed the characters, especially the main character Ferdie and his side kick, Marsh-dog. A good fictional series for young adults/teens.
This is one super different take on Angels and Demons. It is a fun read with excitement and super hero's and bad Demons. I liked it a lot and hope you take the time to read as you will not regret it.
I enjoyed the epic fight at the end and the connection that fardie was able to make with marsh and Arnie after they died. I found the ending to be so abrupt and marsh really had no reason to die. Without these main characters, the book felt so empty and disappointing at the end.

Alright, just not my favorite. I didn't find the characters very engaging or the dialogue fresh. I actually only finished it because I have committed to completing any book I start, thus giving it a chance to change my mind.
An interesting idea for a story, but the delivery was a little lacking. I found the characters were stilted and in need of fleshing out. The core personalities were there, they just needed developing to bring them to life. The protagonist isn’t exactly likeable. You don’t hate him, he’s just very bland and devoid of real feelings. With the immense losses he has suffered you would expect some poignant emotion, but aside from constant head tapping he just doesn’t seem all that effected. Perhaps if the story was written in a way that showed us what was being felt instead of told us the characters would seem more realistic. A good effort and an intriguing premise, but the writing style just didn’t capture my imagination.
