The Anthologie de la poésie chinoise classique is a broad, but not deep, selection of Chinese poems stretching from the Book of Songs (some of which go back to the eleventh century BCE) until the end of the eighteenth century CE. With few exceptions each poet is represented by one or two poems, which are accompanied by brief notes on the poet and the poems. This volume is the work of many, many translators, not all of the same quality. Indeed, some of the translations are exceptionally flat and represent classic poems in a language not distinguishable from that written by (our) contemporary amateurs on a Sunday afternoon...
