Two items are located in the binding--one of the three silver jack and two and a half of the bowling pins---they are barely noticeable, which is frustrating since the premise of this book is to find the items. Also, we assumed the lonely eye belonged to the frog since it was the only thing that remotely resembled it. I would have liked to have seen more than one penguin!!! We picked it up because we thought we would be finding at least one penguin in each page.

I can't say I'm terribly excited about this series, but I made it a goal to review EVERY book I read (within some reason), and this was overflow from a free library where I was trying to leave some donations.

The technical aspect of this series is impressive, I admit, between having to get and arrange SO MANY tiny items, probably hundreds if not THOUSANDS of unique trinkets over multiple books—I certainly wouldn't have the patience for that!

Otherwise, the "story" is simply a short, vaguely rhyming list of a small number of things shown in each image, with points off for "rhyming" "unicorn" with "ear of corn." No tiny horn? Sock that was worn? Prickly thorn?

Probably fun for younger readers and other fans of hidden object games, but a bit flat if you aren't one of those.

The little guy Loved this book. I began it by letting him know that he had to help me read it. He is now 3 1/2 and has listened to hundreds of stories read aloud so he's fairly familiar with how a book works. This one features a rebus style text so as I used my finger to read the sentence I would pause at each picture to have him fill in the word. He did an excellent job. I didn't correct him when he said a slightly "wrong" word i.e. "boat" instead of "ship". He was very excited to help and even corrected himself on two occasions so that the rhyme came out right. Not bad for a first read.
In the store we often recommend this series for car trips. It's a nice small format paperback that can easily be tossed in ones bag. The recommended age is preK-grade 1.

This is one of the simple I-Spy books. The pictures are good but not as involved as the books for older children. This is designed for beginning readers.

This is an ideal riddle picture book for a Read Aloud. This book is meant to target early readers and supports building vocabulary while being an interactive book.
