SARAH AND THE SECRET SHEIKH by author Michelle Douglas is a September 2017 release by Harlequin Romance series.
When Sarah discovered she was pregnant after one night with Majed, she was torn. What should she do now? But Majed wanted to marry her. Could she marry a man just because she was carrying his child? What if it didn’t work out?
Majed wanted to marry Sarah and make her his sheikha, but would Sarah agree to marry without any love or romance?
SARAH AND THE SECRET SHEIKH is a thrilling story which would take a reader from Melbourne, Australia to the exotic location of Keddah Jaleel. It would keep a reader engrossed in Sarah’s life and the changes she was facing along with the challenges of being in a new country and a new way of life. And the thrilling climax would make the adrenalin rush in you when Sarah takes down a gun carrying maniac.
When a friend asks Sarah to keep an eye on his bar while he travels she falls for the temporary bartender Majed who is visiting Australia. After a one night stand she discovers she is pregnant and when she tells Majed she finds out he is royalty traveling while his father hunts an assassin who killed Majed's brother. A typical Harlequin story with the expected happy ending. Michelle Douglas has written a good many books for Harlequin and is a talented writer.
Sarah and the Secret Sheikh is a romance that hits a fair few of the tropes - sheikh romance, secret baby romance, etc. It also does a fabulous job of turning some of those tropes upside down.
Sarah is your everyday Australian girl, but a one-night-stand with Majed, the enigmatic and sexy man looking after her friend's bar for a while, leaves her pregnant and unsure of what to do next. Admitting the truth to Majed brings a whole new set of issues into play when he confesses that he's the heir to Keddah Jaleel, a small but wealthy Middle Eastern nation.
Well-educated and having lived in the West for a large part of his life, including the last four years since his brother's murder, Majed had a whole heap of issues, but being a domineering type isn't one of them. He has a few moments where he thinks He Knows What's Best, and Sarah absolutely sets him straight in all of them. One of my favourite lines in the book was when he tried to mansplain her own feelings to her and she jerked him up short.
"That's the kind of privileged-male superiority that seriously ticks me off! Oh, the poor little woman can't possibly know her own mind - she's just a hysterical female! I'll tell her what she really thinks because she's not clever enough to think for herself!"
I totally stood up and cheered. Brava, Sarah. And she doesn't change in the rest of the book; she has her own insecurities and issues, but at no time does she ever give way on her principles. She's a magnificent heroine, and to his credit Majed recognizes that and doesn't try to rein her in at all (except when she was in danger, when his own protective instincts got the better of him... and then Sarah was a self-rescuing princess and I fell in love with her all over again).
While I adored the characters in this book, there were a couple of things missing which felt a bit like a gaping hole in the plot. Anyone even thinking about moving to the Middle East is surely going to ask some hard questions about Muslim extremism even if not specifically naming ISIS, and I also found it hard to believe that Sarah could marry into the ruling family of such a nation without being required to convert to Islam, something which was never brought up either.
This is a light and fluffy romance, but completely ignoring real-world issues jars the reader out of the story a little, leaving them wondering how the protagonists would manage these problems they are surely going to have to face.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, but the plot holes left me feeling a little dissatisfied at the end of the book. I'll give it 4 stars.
Disclaimer: I won a paperback copy of this book in a raffle and have elected to leave an honest review!
I absolutely love a Sheikh story and this one blew me away and apparently it was MS Douglas’s first foray into writing Sheikhs one can hope that she writes many more because this Sheikh is to die for gorgeous, charming, caring and just the hero for a heroine who is sure she is a flake and fails at most things so I recommend that you sit back with this one and journey to Keddah Jaleel for a story that will leave you smiling.
Sarah is bright, bubbly and a beautiful person all round but when she breaks up with her boyfriend Sebastian finally, she goes to celebrate at the bar that her friend Majed runs and when that celebration turns into a very sensual night with consequences then some hard choices have to be made you see Sarah wants love something that her feuding parents never had and she wants this for her child as well as herself. But Sarah often feels like a failure and a bit of a flake at times never finishing things that she has started but she is determined to change that and speaking to her friend and the father of her child is about to start that change.
Majed has been in Australia for four years and keeps his past to himself he is pretty much a loner so when he discovers that he is going to be a father then he needs to get back to his life and think about the future and he must convince Sarah that he will keep her safe and do what is best for her and the baby and yes he would love to marry her and wants her to come to his home in Keddah Jaleel and he needs also to tell her his secret about being a Sheikh and that there will not be any love in their marriage and he has reasons for that.
I loved this one from page one it is so very sensual and sizzling the heat that arcs between Majed and Sarah and the love that shines throughout had me sighing, oh and Sarah is just so likable and loving and for someone who thinks she is a flake my goodness she shows such strength and courage she is a fabulous heroine and Majed just fantastic, the desire he shows Sarah is swoon worthy. This is a beautifully written story that ticks all of the boxes for a story that will keep readers enthralled till the end, this is such a feel good story thank you.
Magical and enchanting, I enjoyed this wonderful tale of Majed and Sarah and however it’s a tale it couldn’t escape my attention that some character traits (flaws don’t exist in fairy tales) were beautifully portrayed. Like Sarah’s lack of self-esteem about her artistic talent or Majed’s well- hidden guilt towards his brother and parents. I adored the way Sarah talked with Majed, pointing him in the right direction and I gushed about Majed adoring and protecting Sarah. I loved reading this tale and I read it in almost one go.
When one magical night with gorgeous and enigmatic Majed leaves Sarah pregnant, she's torn apart over whether to reveal her secret. For her it’s difficult to confront people she likes and tell them what she wants, while confronting people she doesn’t have feelings for is easy. However, she already loves this baby, but will confirmed bachelor Majed feel the same? Discovering he's going to be a father changes everything for Majed. It's time to face the music and unveil his true identity as Prince of Keddah Jaleel! He has to face all what had happened in the past and see if he can make amends. Can he convince Sarah to be his sheika, he would love her to make his wife but can he be convincing enough to let the past be the past?
Opposites attract? This was a really fun read! Sarah & Majed had a really sweet connection and friendship over a several month period before they ever moved towards romance. After there is a baby on the way and they are having to decide what type of future is in store for them, they continue to grow close and each is willing to give up what they might ultimately want in order to make the other happy. Loved it!
Sarah Collins has lived a fairly laid back and free lifestyle. She carries scars from her childhood along with her and wants no part in heading towards the poison that her parents spewed on a daily basis towards each other. When her friendship with Majed turns steamy for one night of fun, she thinks that's all it is ... until she finds out she's pregnant and has to go tell him!
Majed likes Sarah and appreciates her for the talented person that she is ... he only wishes she could see herself through his eyes. When she tells him their one night tryst has left them expecting a baby, he's blown away. He finds himself telling her his secret ... that his father is the ruling Sheikh of Keddah Jaleel and he's his heir! Sarah agrees to accompany him to his country to make amends with his father and see if she's interested in the future he offers her with his proposal.
Sarah and the Secret Sheikh is author Michelle Douglas’ first sheikh romance and it is absolutely fantastic! Poignant, dramatic and uplifting, Sarah and the Secret Sheikh is another winner for this talented writer of contemporary romance!
A relationship is the last thing Sarah wants or needs at the moment. She has just broken up with her awful boyfriend Sebastian and is determined not to get herself entangled in another toxic relationship ever again. Sarah is going to focus all of her time and energy into finding a new job, so the last thing she needs is a distraction. However, she simply cannot stop herself from thinking about drop dead gorgeous Majed’s sexy smile and muscular physique! A fling is certainly out of the question for Sarah – and besides, a man as charismatic and good-looking as Majed would probably not be interested in somebody like her…or would he? With the chemistry between them off the charts and the sexual tension palpable, Sarah and Majed soon find themselves giving into their feelings for one another and spending the night together. Sarah had thought that their night of love was a one-off….until she finds out that she is carrying Majed’s child. But little does she realise that Majed has omitted to mention that he is not an ordinary man, but the Prince of Keddah Jaleel!
Majed had hated seeing Sarah being taken in by that sleazebag Sebastian who never seemed to lose an opportunity to chip away at her self confidence. When Sarah had dumped her boyfriend, he had been ecstatic – so much so that he had been unable to stop himself from kissing her and taking her to bed! Although their night together had put a strain on their friendship, Majed still cared deeply about Sarah – which is why when he finds out that she is carrying his child, he realises that he’s got no other option but to take her back to Keddah Jaleel as his wife! But for Majed home is a place full of heart-breaking memories which had nearly pushed him over the edge and caused a devastating rift between him and his parents. However, if he thought that Sarah was going to be amenable to his proposal, he had another think coming!
Sarah had been more than happy to raise her baby by herself. She doesn’t want or need anything from Majed, but she cannot deny that she would love nothing more than for her child to have a father – even if he is a Sheikh! Swept away to the desert by Majed, Sarah is determined to keep things strictly platonic between them, so why is it that she cannot stop herself from wishing that Majed could reciprocate her feelings for him?
Is Majed ready and willing to stop living in the past and embrace this second chance at happiness? Or will he continue to hide behind the wall which he had built around himself?
Sarah and the Secret Sheikh is a wonderfully absorbing read full of magic, warmth, emotion and romance! Michelle Douglas is a terrific writer who writes with flair, sensitivity and charm and creates characters that leap off the pages and moving, believable and mesmerizing love stories that are impossible to put down.
Sarah and the Secret Sheikh is a captivating romance about healing, redemption, hope and taking a chance on love that readers will devour in one sitting. Sarah is a fantastic heroine who is bold, independent and realistic and I thought Majed was a great hero: captivating, charismatic, sensitive and absolutely irresistible! I also applaud Michelle Douglas for pulling off the difficult feat of introducing supporting characters into a category romance that were fleshed out and well drawn, but who didn’t detract from the romance. I especially loved Sarah’s mother and thought she was very funny and there is also a heart-stopping suspenseful moment in the last chapter that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Michelle Douglas never lets her readers down and Sarah and the Secret Sheikh is a gorgeous romance guaranteed to delight, entertain and move her fans and win her lots of new ones!
Finally! Finally I have found a Sheikh romance that I have liked after a string of ones I didn’t. Sarah and the Secret Sheikh broke the chain of bad books in this trope. These books are my guilty pleasure and I almost gave up hope that I would find one that I liked again.
I enjoyed the buildup between Sarah and Majed. They started with a friendship that leads to an unexpected pregnancy and from there blooms into a woman finding her confidence, a future Sheikh learns some lessons in love and what you end with is a book that left a smile on my face. Now it wasn’t perfect by any means but overall I easily read this one in one sitting. I would have loved for it to have been even longer just so I got to see more of their relationship in the future.
This author is new to me and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
A truly secret sheikh story as Sarah is friends with Majed and sits most evenings over a glass of wine as he tends bar. One night after a break up with her boyfriend it goes a little further than friends and the outcome is a pregnancy. So now decision time as to whether she wants to marry him or not, but that isn't even the only problem. She finds that he is a sheikh and has left his home on the death of his brother. Sarah has her own scars from her childhood and doesn't know if she wants to commit to him. HE wants her to go with him there to see if she could make a life there with him. A truly lovely story which is what Ms. Douglas always gives. You will love Majed and truly become immersed in their lovely relationship and that of his royal family . A wonderful story not to be missed.

Best friends who turned into lovers and had an unexpected surprise - and ended up in bigger surprising circumstances.
The heroes were well developed, and the story and other characters as well.
This story really sucked me in. I really loved this. It was entertaining, romantic, sweet, with a little bit of thrill towards the end. Perfect for those who love modern royal romance.
Sarah and the Secret Sheikh by Michelle Douglas is a sweet and endearing story. Sarah knows Majed only as the hot bartender that works for her best friend’s brother. They strike up an easy friendship but neither of them can deny the sizzling chemistry between them. After one passionate night between them, Sarah discovers that she is pregnant. Little did she know that Majed is actually the Prince of Keddah Jaleel! After ‘fessing up Majed invites Sarah to Keddah Jaleel, where he is determined to take up his rightful position and make Sarah his Sheikha. But in order to do that, they both have to navigate a quagmire of opposition, historic ideas and, an unexpected appearance!
I am not typically enamored of sheikh-type stories but this one truly sucked me in. Majed was a likable H and Sarah (h), while at times frustrated me with her toxic former bf and endless self doubt, she did end up turning things around and become a great heroine. I loved the budding friendship and relationship that they formed which by the end made me believe that they were truly a great couple. Bravo to Ms. Douglas!
Sarah and the Secret Sheikh by Michelle Douglas Sarah just got out of a relationship, with Sebastian and was determined to not get into another one at least not a toxic one. Sarah plans for focus all her time and energy on finding a job. But her mind does not stop thinking about Majed. That drop dead gorgeous with a sexy smile and muscular body named Majed. What can she do to get him out of her mind. She feels that she also did not want a fling. Sarah is thinking that Majed would not be interested in her anyway or would he? The chemistry between Sarah and Majed was off the charts and they soon found themselves together since their sexual tension was very real. They spend one night together, later she realizes that she is carrying Majed's baby. She tells him and realizes that Majed has had his own secret all this time. He is a Prince of Keddah Jaleel! The go there together and Majed gives her the option of trying it for a month and if it is not she would take the baby and go back to her homeland. Michelle Douglas nailed this story 100% and it held my attention and I could not put it down. She always does a superb job in her writing, so I knew I would enjoy it. Michelle also finds the way to tell the whole story and go through the reason that Majed was not in his homeland and why Sarah was not doing what was really her love. Trust me when I say that Michelle Douglas will not disappoint you with this book. Enjoy!!
Beautiful writing and absorbing storytelling gives you a book that deserves to be on your keeper shelf! Sarah and the Secret Sheikh—a charming, sexy romance by Michelle Douglas brought deep satisfaction into my little reader heart. Well done, Michelle Douglas. I'm sure readers will be snapping up your book off the shelves!
"Sarah and the Secret Sheikh" by Michelle Douglas loved this story. After a romantic night between Sarah and Majed she finds herself pregnant. Little does she know that he is not just the confirmed bachelor he claims to be but Prince of Keddah Jaleel. Their relationship has many twists because their pasts, and they must learn to trust for their future.

After a long time I have read a romance that has brought me so many smiles and so many frowns. Calling this one one of the sweetest romances that I have ever read will not be wrong.
The characters are very close to reality and very likeable. Nowhere did I tell myself, this does not happen or that what the author even talking about.
A very important thing and a point in favour of Michelle Douglas is that when she wrote a Sheikh hero, she did not make him out to be a Christian in all but name which I have seen happening so many times. Religion was kept at a side and it was emotions and circumstances that took centre stage.
If even for once had she mentioned Majed to be going in cathedral or a cathedral by the royal palace where a Sheikh has been living for centuries, I'd have been sourly disappointed. But that was not the case.
Coming back to what I liked, here is a list
- Even though there were regrets i his life, Majed was not jaded like almost every romance hero that one reads about. Seriously, this man was a a breath of fresh air - Sarah had this spirit of a youngster in her which is cherished by some and berate her for it. This stuck close to home and I kept on cheering for this woman - It teaches us never to give up on our dreams and many of us need that reminder time and again (me included) - Majed working as a barman when he is the heir apparent of a ruling Sheikh (no, I do not count that as spoilers as we are told of this in the first few pages) shows how no job is good or bad, or small or big and how one must always give their 100% in whatever they do
Sarah Collins think she's a failure. Hasn't a former mentor and her mother told her so?
Then she meets Majed, and they become fast friends while he works a bar in Australia. She doesn't know he's a sheikh and destined to rule his home country. A night of lovemaking, as if to seal their friendship with passion, results in a pregnancy she wasn't expecting (no pun intended). When she tells Majed, he offers to marry her. Not for love. That would be too dangerous, he concludes.
When Sarah agrees to test out his country for a month, Majed knows he'll have to convince her even if his parents disagree and disapprove.
But what neither expect is his parents' reaction or what forces Majed to recognize that he does love Sarah. For real. In spite of his past.
Michelle Douglas has such a way of writing romance stories and I enjoyed Sarah and the Secret Sheikh because of this and because she has a way of writing stories that have the frame work of a standard "secret baby" story but manages to add unique flavour to it so that you don't feel like it's same ole same ole.
I love Sheikh's and Majed is no exception. I loved that Sarah stood up to him and I really enjoyed the two poles-apart characters were meant to be and their road to happiness was a journey for me.
Don't go past this book if you're looking for something wonderfully enjoyable.
Surprisingly good. Lately all the Hqn I read are insipid and boring. More of same old, same old. This was refreshing, though a bit patriarchal *spoilers* in that the girl has to conform to a totally alien environment. I wish that angle had been explored more. I doubt she could fit in the aristocratic mindset of the hero's family. But all in all, a good read.

I love a good Sheikh story and this one was done exceptionally well. Two strong believable characters with lots of conflict to overcome. The settings were superb .. especially loved the start in Melbourne. I definitely recommend this.
While most of the book is set in Keddah Jaleel, a fictional country where the hero Majed's father is the ruling sheikh, the author provided just enough detail for the place to seem real. Two of the key points in the book are based on information not being fully disclosed, which while frustrating would have altered the course of story drastically. This is definitely a complete story, but it would have been nice to have an epilogue with Sarah and Majed happily married and spending time with their child
