(Suncoast Society series book #48, MF, BDSM, FemDom)
(Note: This book is a direct sequel to Splendid Isolation.)
Is Lara’s life complicated? Not really. On the evening of her divorce, she dumps her jerk fiancé while at dinner with him and her now ex-husband, Everett, and Everett’s boyfriend, Wylie. That’s where she meets their hunky neighbor, Brad, and his teenage son, Mark.
That’s not complicated at allll.
Dr. Brad Jarred is well aware some people assume he’s little more than a Florida Cracker cowboy, but he’s actually an accomplished chemist running his family’s ranch, all while being a single father. He loves Lara’s spirit…and her strong will. She’s exactly the kind of take-charge woman he’s longed to meet and love. One thing’s for certain—at least Everett and Wylie are rooting for a relationship to flourish between the couple.
Now that Lara has the kind of guy she’s always wanted, can she be the woman Brad needs? More importantly, will Mark accept her in their lives? And why won’t her whackadoodle ex fiancé leave her alone?
Note: This book features a heroine who is a Domme.

This was a satisfying read with excellent characters, lots of suspense, and some steamy sex scenes, along with a different point approach to the BDSM scene.
Lara is celebrating her divorce from her ex-husband and his significant other with the two men in question when her current fiance shows himself to be a total asshat. That same night she meets Brad and his son Mark, who epitomize acceptance and caring that brings out Steve's short comings even more.
But both Brad and Lara have been burned-and both have sexual preferences that have sent prospective partners running for the hills. Brad is a sexual submissive and Lara's is dominant. In fact, her dominance clashed with her ex-husband's need to be in charge as well as his homosexuality, which is why they divorced in spite of still loving each other. Neither Brad nor Lara is experienced in BDSM, although both are interested. They warily decide to attempt a relationship despite the obstacles, which include Mark, Lara's ex fiance among others. Can their lives fit together as well as their sexual interests?
I liked all the characters I was supposed to like. Lara is strong but not mean, Brad is submissive but not a pushover, and Mark is simply a hero. There are some funny moments- such as Mark telling his parents individually that he is gay and finding their only concern is that he use protection.
The book was well written, and although BDSM is mentioned and lightly explored, it is not a main factor in this story. It was not one of the author's really heart-wrenching stories, but it is definitely a good one.

This was book 48 in the " Suncoast Society" series. Lara who is Everett's ex wife dumped her fiancée Steve on the day of her divorce from Everett because first she didn't love him and two because he was being rude to Everett and Wylie Steve was homophobic so she dumped him. Lara now has a problem she has given notice on her apartment because she was moving in with Steve so now she has 3 days to find a new place. Brad and his son Mark who live across the street from the guys join them for dinner and Brad drives Lara home and the two begin to talk and realize that they like each other. Brad offers to rent Lara a room he also tells her that he is submissive in the bedroom and wants to get to know her. This was a really good book Lara knows that she has a dominate personality and she doesn't like to be told what to do. Lara and Brad hit off and they agree to take it slow. I really liked how the guys helped Brad's son Mark when he told his father he was gay although he kind of thought so and he was their for Mark and his boyfriend Jacob. Mark was also very brave when he caught Wylie's ex Ralph when he broke into the guys house he lassoed him. When Lara's ex Steve continues to harass her they guys try to get her to learn to shoot she gets a baton and when Steve tries to attack her she beats him up with it and Mark pulls a shot gun on him. Lara becomes a Domme with the help of Tilly. The sex scenes in this book were good. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
If you've read any of my other reviews of Tymber Dalton's books, you're well aware that she's my favorite author, an automatic buy with each new release. Fire in the Hole is the 48th book in the Suncoast Society BDSM series. If you haven't read the previous books, no problem! Each book in the series is a standalone novel, although you'll understand the characters' backstories better if you read them in order. There's a complete listing of the series, in order, at the beginning of each Suncoast Society book.
Lara Cannon's life seems perfect. Although she's divorcing her husband, Everett, it's very amicable. In fact, Ev is still her best friend. Sure, he's gay. That's pretty much why they're divorcing. But she adores Ev and his boyfriend, Wylie. She has a good job as a realtor and a handsome, rich fiancé, Steve Ewing. Everything seems to be proverbially "coming up roses." That is, until the final divorce hearing. Lara asks Steve to stay away. It's a simple hearing. They'll sign the papers. The divorce will be final. But Steve insists on coming with her. That's the first mistake of the day. Steve's put downs, condescending attitude, and constant criticism of Lara suddenly jumps out at her like never before. Yes, when she thinks about it, it's always been there from the beginning. She'd just overlooked it. When Ev and Wylie invite Lara for dinner, Lara accepts, with Steve insisting on accompanying them, and off they go. That's the second mistake of the day. After a chance meeting at the restaurant, Ev and Wylie's neighbors, Brad and his son, Mark, join them.
Brad Jarred appears to be a typical Florida Cracker cowboy. Dressed in faded jeans, a short-sleeved button-up work shirt, work boots, and a baseball cap, he's very polite and answers all Steve's ill-mannered questions. And he's as handsome as he is polite. But he's far from what he appears to be. Lara feels an immediate attraction to him. Her irritation at Steve continues to grow, and when Steve finally starts in on Ev and Wylie being gay, Lara explodes. It's bad enough he's insulted everyone else. But Steve's homophobia is the last straw. As Steve grabs Lara and orders her to leave with him, she pulls off her engagement ring, lays it on the table, and makes it very clear the engagement is off.
Brad feels the same attraction that Lara feels, and they quickly become an item. But there's a problem. Lara's supposed to move in with Steve that weekend, and her apartment is already rented. Worse, there're no other apartments available. Brad comes to the rescue, offering to let Lara stay with him and Mark until she can make other arrangements. But how will Mark feel about Lara moving in with them? Neither he nor his dad know her at all. And Mark has a secret that he has no idea how to tell anyone. Who can he tell, when, and how? While Lara's grateful for Brad's offer, there's no guarantee that this arrangement will work. And Lara's definitely not heard the last from Steve. To top things off, Brad and Lara learn about Ev and Wylie's BDSM lifestyle. Will this affect Lara's friendship with her ex and his lover? While Lara is intrigued, that hardly means that Brad will be interested in taking any relationship they might have to that level. With each person's individual questions, dilemmas, and uncertainty, what does the future hold for Lara and her new life?
Ms. Dalton has done it yet again. She's created a story filled with fun, drama, laughter, tears, joy, and suspense. She's intertwined each person's individual story to fit together so skillfully that it seems effortless. Fire in the Hole is a story full of genuine, real people. The emotions I felt for each character were deep and heartfelt. I alternately laughed out loud and cried until tears blurred my vision. That's just how well-created the characters in all Ms. Dalton's books are. The fact that Ms. Dalton has been an active participant in the BDSM lifestyle for many years only adds to the authenticity of the details of that lifestyle as portrayed in her novels. Ms. Dalton's books ALWAYS have the ability to pull me in from the very beginning. Her skill as an author is exceptional. It's no surprise to anyone who's either read my reviews of Ms. Dalton's books that I am extremely impressed with the entire Suncoast Society series. Fire in the Hole is another wonderful addition to the series.
One final comment. This is an ADULT book. It contains BDSM themes, explicit language, and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy erotic romance and explicit sex with BDSM scenes, THINK CAREFULLY before buying a book you know you won't enjoy. There's always a synopsis and reviews at various booksellers' websites and reviews on Goodreads and several Facebook book review pages as well. PLEASE use these resources so you're sure the book you buy is one you want. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK AS IT'S NOT FAIR TO THE AUTHOR! She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product, and if you know before you buy a book you'll object to the subject matter, you're doing both yourself and the author an extreme disservice. But if you enjoy hot, erotic BDSM romances, I highly recommend Fire in the Hole. You'll love it!
As always, thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
Divorcing a best friend, dumping a douche bag fiance and then finding perhaps the man of your dreams all in less than a week is an accomplishment. Not sure if it is a good or bad feat, Lara's head is still whirling. This book overlaps the book Splendid Isolation which featured Lara's husband, Everett. This book can be read as a standalone but it is a better experienced if Splendid Isolation is read first.
Everett is now Lara's ex-husband. This was a long time coming and finally moving forward because of Lara's fiance, Steve, who wants to get married. Good thing Steve shows his true colours before the wedding and Lara avoids making a big mistake. Lara's track record with men has not been the best. A bit gun shy, she moves slowly with Brad. The pace is so slow, even I am hoping the two of them finally get it on.
Lara and Brad's relationship is a nice change of pace with a femdom dynamic. It is nice to see Lara's tentative steps towards kinky sex as this is all new to her. Her experimentation with Brad is sweet and completely believable. Ms. Dalton shows her kink repertoire is a full range with this new to femdom erotica. It is sweet and smoking hawt. The slow build up adds so much heat that when Lara and Brad finally get together, it is explosive. I also like how Brad is portrayed as a submissive. Ms. Dalton lightly touches upon the myths of a male submissive and dispels it with a positive portrayal. If I was more toppy, I'd take Brad in a heartbeat. One word - pegging! Yes, all my femdom friends, there is a bit of pegging in this story and it is absolutely delicious. Not to be missed.
This story is more than just a romance. It is a story about creating families and coming out as one's true self. This recurring motif of being true to oneself hits home for me. To let a little part of oneself die because of a lover or family member is a terrible experience. That fire which makes each of us individuals, when snuffed out, leaves a shell of a person. Each of the relationships in this story gently shows how to extract from a relationship that isn't working. And how to continue it is possible to keep a friendship even when relationships does not work out. It also shows the fears of coming out to family members. This is a feel good story with sex, ass kicking and sweet romance - a little bit of everything. This kinky erotica is recommended to as a gateway to femdom book.
I love a well written story a Domme and this book has one. Tymber knows her stuff and that's why I love her books. Lara has an ex-fiancé who is stalking her for some reason and an ex-husband who is gay and has a boyfriend. The story is complex and kept me engaged the whole time. When Brad comes along, it gets very interesting. For me to read about a male submissive, it has to be believable and this is very believable. I couldn't put this book down and I highly recommend it!
First thing I thought when I read the blurb was yay a Domme. I love how this book shows how uniquely different every BDSM relationship can be. After the great lead up in Splendid Isolation, Fire in the Hole will not disappoint. Another great one by Tymber Dalton.
Each book in the Sun Coast Society series is awesome and uniquely different from the others. There series is on my buy list. While they can be read individually as stand alones they're so much better read in order.
I liked this story. Some of the dead pool stuff is getting old. Maybe I'm the only one who didn't care for it much, but Mrs. Dalton has referenced the movie several times already. Also totally couldn't see Brad saying totes- it really sat with me the whole time. Didn't seem right for his character.
So interesting the way that these two particular books intertwine. Good for Mark, what a great kid, and Jacob. They will make great things of themselves without a doubt. The offer from Kimbra was awesome. Thanks for bringing Brad and Lara together and letting Ralph and Steve finally see justice.
Lara and Ev finally get a divorce - only Steve wants to come with her to the hearing once that's done they go to dinner only to have Steve show his true colors, and that's where she meets Brad and his son Mark which turns out to be a blessing in disguise.
While books in this series are standalones I do recommend that you read Splendid Isolation before this one. The begining of this one overlaps parts of that one. The overlapping part is told from Lara's POV. While I really don't like dual POV of the same story in two books Tymber did it very well. It was just a small part of this book so it did not get boring. Which is the problem I have with two books dual POV. I really love Mark and the way he handles psycho intruders.
Brilliant. Just enough snarky to make it funny and plenty emotional and sexy, too. Lara is strong and independent but she also has the soft side. Brad is a single dad, educated rancher who longs to submit to the right woman. Good thing Lara is the right woman.
Ms. Dalton has become one of my favorite authors. Her characters are well-written and never one dimensional. Brad' explanation of his feelings about their relationship was so honest. Mark by far was my favorite part of the book. I love kick ass kids.
This was a good read about two people whose love lives are not what they want them to be. Lara has just divorced her first love because he is gay. They are now friends again which is good for her because he introduces him to his neighbor. Brad has spent years alone so he can raise his son and because he hasn't been able to find a woman who wants an Alpha submissive. When he meets Lara, he thinks his luck might have changed! Another great addition to the Suncoast Society!
We are up to book 48 in the Suncoast Society and still going strong, for which I am completely grateful and thrilled. I live for this series as it's one of my absolute favorites. I will admit, I haven't been happy, happy, joy, joy lately with the MM books, but that's just a personal preference on the sex scenes. I still LOVE the story lines and the relationships. Kinda the same here, being a subbie, Domme stories don't flip my switch so I tend to get grazey over the sex scenes. But the story line? Once again, Tymber hits me right in the kisser with another incredible book.
This is a sort of continuation of Splendid Isolation, which is Everett and Wylie's book. Everett is the viking looking ex-husband of Lara. He's a welder, creates awesome metal work as a blacksmith and metalworker. He also is gay, and is now happy with Wylie. The ending of Splendid Isolation is basically where we pick up Fire in the Hole. Lara is with Steve in the beginning and questioning if she wants to really move in with him and marry him.
After she officially divorces Ev, they go to dinner at a place Steve feels is beneath him. He causes so much trouble at dinner with his mouth that Lara gives him his ring back and dumps him. She also meets Ev and Wy's neighbor Brad. He's a Florida Cracker Cowboy (I still don't quite get that LOL) and a chemist, and a sub. And he offers Lara a place to stay.
They get together and take it slow, and of course we have Steve being a dou*henozzle. I loved the book, even with the Female domme/ male sub action and Lara's obsession with butt plugs.
I am so glad that Brad and Lara get their own story. Brad is a calm, non-imposing person unless he feels others are being hurt. He is so good at using his words to make his point. Lara is a sweet person who was close to making a terrible mistake. Together they are a force for good.
PS I want this series to go on long enough that the wonderful teens in this story get their own books someday.
This was an amazing book. The relationship that blooms between Lara and Brad is simply spectacular. I think it would be great to have a followup book somewhere down that line that tells how Jacob and Mark end up too.
