See You Soon Moon

Rate this book
It's time for an evening trip
to Grandma's house.
Bye-bye bedroom, bear, and blanket.
See you soon, moon.
Into the car and up the hill.
But look--over the trees--
The moon is coming with us!

Who doesn't remember spotting the moon through the car window--and feeling both happy and comforted that this universal night-light seemed to follow wherever you went? At once adventuresome and reassuring, this eye-catching bedtime book brings Donna Conrad's musical words together with Don Carter's sculptural illustrations to capture a wonder-filled childhood journey.

This is Donna Conrad's first picture book.

The beautifully conceived and illustrated children’s picture book, SEE YOU SOON MOON, highlights the incredible gift that children have to see the world with wonder and a " very first-time" way.

Here, in Ms. Conrad's poetic and simply profound picture book, she shows a young boy's ability to notice and marvel in a way that adults have often lost in their preoccupations with the busyness of the world.

Unique, 3-dimensional illustrations are bright, colorful and effective. It is the story of a family traveling to Grandma's house and seeing the moon all the way there. Although the text does not rhyme, it is definitely poetic. There is wonderful variety in having different amounts of text on each page.

See You Soon Moon by Donna Conrad is on the surface the story of a boy going to see his grandmother. It's also a great introduction to parallax.

Before the trip begins, the boy says good bye to moon. Soon after he notices that the moon appears to be following the car. As they drive the boy wonders about the moon and how it can appear to be along for the trip.

The illustrations have a three dimensional quality to them, having been made from foam, cardboard and thickly applied acrylics. The effect is pleasing, eye catching and unique.

This book was a gift from a friend and has turned out to be our daughter’s favorite book. When a child tells you what book she wants to read, it’s wise to listen. Our daughter points to the moon on every page and squeals, “Moon! Moon!” Now, when she’s in a car at night, she plays peek-a-boo with the moon through the car window, just like the book does. SEE YOU SOON MOON is an understated tribute to nature in a child’s life. Simplicity is not easy to create, but this book achieves it with poetic ease.

This book is a treasure for young children and the people reading with them. My two daughters loved it, and found it comforting that when the boy leaves his familiar surroundings and belongings he is accompanied by the moon on his journey. The lyrical language and vivid illustrations bring the experience to life. This is a book I will buy for any young children in my life.

As an adult reading this to my nephews, there is an immediate nostalgic feeling within the book about the moon 'following' the car as it drives through the night.

Children instantly identify with it as well, and it's a "please read this one again!" every time.

What a whimsically charming book! I've read it to my godchildren and nieces, and they wouldn't let me stop until I'd read it at least twice--sometimes three times! The illustrations and text meld perfectly, carrying us off on a magical journey. We can't wait for Donna's next children's book!
