I have my mother to thank for my passion for writing. My mom is an avid reader of popular fiction, and I began reading highly inappropriate books around the age of eleven, I think. (Thanks, Mom, for always leaving those delicious books strewn about!)

To Tempt a Scotsman, a Golden Heart winning historical, was my first published book. Here I am signing the cover! A Rake's Guide to Pleasure (which was excerpted at the back of Scotsman) is my second.

Due to my all-around goofiness, my agent suggested I also try my hand at a contemporary romantic comedy. Boy, is my agent smart! I had a great time writing Talk Me Down, the story of a young woman who goes back to her small hometown in Colorado and causes a huge stir with her secretive career and her burgeoning relationship with the chief of police. Not only did I have a great time writing it, but Tara Parsons at HQN liked it too! So if you like cold weather, hot sex and dirty jokes, be sure to check out Talk Me Down (out in January 2009).

Speaking of cold weather, my family and I live in a beautiful ski town in
Utah. No, I don't ski. I prefer to sit inside with a hot toddy and a good
book while the snow falls. It's especially beautiful to watch when from the inside!

I have a wonderful husband and children, and the house is kind of crowded, what with the dukes, Scotsmen, police chiefs, and naughty ladies running around, but my family is very understanding about my imaginary friends. Good thing, since they refuse to leave!

It was just perfect! I absolutely loved it! Given a not-too-complicated, everyday situation, an endearing couple, some trouble, some misunderstanding, some uncertainty, great chemistry, the finest not love, but attraction confession without saying those certain three little words, and an ending which equals the beginning of an awesome relationship.
Driving made her happy. The feel of the power at her fingertips. The rush of the wind past her open window when the weather cooperated. And the faster she drove, the freer she felt. Fifty-five miles per hour wasn't happiness.

I loved the contrast between Nate’s calmness and soberness and Jenny’s lightness, vehemence, and delightful charm. Not only the both of them are nicely delineated, but Ms. Dahl did a great job even with the characterization of the secondary characters, making them distinguishable.

Loved the story, too, it was simple, realistic, humorous, without too much drama, without exaggeration. The erotic scenes were delicious as well.

It is the first story I’ve read by Victoria Dahl, but I'm sure there will be more!

I liked the attraction between Jenny and Nate in Too Fast to Fall. I liked revisiting the town and the characters.

3.5, but rounding up.

I liked this ok. A few things just rubbed me the wrong way. Like, a police officer hitting on a woman he's pulled over one too many times, just felt sort of wrong. It didn't play that way in the story, but it did feel like an uneven power balance to me.

I enjoyed the plot of the story though. Do wish it was longer and we got more into her background, her sister, etc. But overall, it was good.

The final sex scene was a bit uncomfortable though, which left me knocking off another half star (if I could). He was too much in control in a way that felt sort of gross if you ask me. I'm ok with power plays and stuff like that when it comes to sex as long as it's made clear they both want it. In this case, it came out of nowhere and felt off to me.

But overall, a decent short.

This was an accidental purchase from Amazon. I figured out I had already read it (and probably already own it in another edition). It's a fun romance by Victoria Dahl, and she's one of my favorite writers.
