Vega Fowell has spent her life in the air. In fact, for almost three-and-a-half centuries, everyone has. But as a pilot aboard the airship Perseus, Vega’s life is routine, bordering on stale. The massive ship never goes anywhere—all she has to do is keep it afloat.
Humanity has lived on the airships in relative comfort, far above Ashby’s nanobot-created wasteland. When the mechanics of the machinery hit critical errors, the ones in charge need to find a way to survive on land, without causing widespread panic. It’s an impossible feat—one Vega must overcome if she, and the rest of passengers, want to survive.
But hope is born when Vega does a flyover of the mainland and spots something suspicious. An island. Smoke. What looks like the beginnings of a settlement in the midst of the bots. Could there be actual people down there…alive?
I really hate writing these in third person. So hey! I'm Stephanie. I have all kinds of books including post-apocalyptic, dystopian, and paranormal romance. This is my first venture into clean rom-com, and I gotta tell ya, I loved it. I have 12 books planned for the Calendar Girls standalone series, so buckle up, buttercups! It's gonna be a fun ride, and I do hope you'll join me!
What else do you want to know? My husband can usually be found sailing the skies as an airline captain, and my daughter is TEN now (::commence sobbing at the cruel passage of time::)!
I love to connect with readers, so please reach out any time! With nice things of course. Please don't troll me LOL. I have kindof a sharp tongue and little restraint when provoked. It's not cute.
I eagerly launched into book three of the trilogy after devouring the first two. Book one was a slow burner but book two really hooked me I was hoping that the third book would be the thrilling climax but sadly the end cake not with a bang but with a whimper.
In essence this book feels rushed. It feel like it has been put out to make sales rather than give a satisfactory conclusion. The main characters aren’t given enough time to grow which makes later romantic subplots feel forced and unnatural. Given that the book is primarily set on 350 year old airships we find out little about them or the people that live on them.
Perhaps the most frustrating thing for me personally was numerous anachronistic events. The one that stands out the most is a joke about the airships flying despite being government built - a government that hasn’t existed for 350 years and no one on the ship was alive to see! Every time I came across one of these events it pulled me totally out of the story
I don’t honestly know if I’m glad I read this book. Yes, I have a conclusion but I don’t feel like I’ve had an ending.

Years ago the bots broke free and became killers. The humans became their target. Those few that survived lived in fear. Now the airships that housed some of the survivors are experiencing problems and need to land to make repairs. Can they take the risk? Vega Fowell is a pilot on the airship Perseus. She's sent on a reconnaissance mission to explore Earth to see if they're able to survive on earth. She finds people there and asks them to help. I liked Vega. She takes her responsibility seriously and wants to save lives. I liked her strength and her courage. Her interaction with Mason Hawkins, one of the island people, is intense. I enjoyed their battle of wills. I was pulled into this story. I wanted them to work together to defeat their enemy. Stephanie Erickson keeps increasing the tension with a suspenseful story. I wasn't sure if they would find the answer in time even with the help of their hacker. I've enjoyed The Dead Room Trilogy and I'm sorry to see it end.
This is the final book of the Dead Room Series and you want to read the previous books on the series before you read this one.
A small group of islanders make it to the mainland and discover that they aren’t the only ones left in the world. For over 300 years there has been a society that has lived within airships above the clouds. These airships are quickly deteriorating from being airborne for so long and the Islanders are their last hope at survival.
I loved the whole basis behind this series. Unfortunately, I found this last book to feel too rushed, almost as if the author just wanted to be done with the series. There was so much more potential in this final installment, if only the author would have taken the time to slow down and not rush the ending.
I am a huge Stephanie Erickson fan. Have been waiting on pins and needles for this final book in the trilogy. An amazing journey full of surprises and twists from book one until the final chapter in book three. I'm not going to give any spoilers here. I fully recommend this book to everyone! You will be on the edge of your seat from the very beginning and will not want to put it down until you finish the story. It is very well written with complex and captivating characters. I applaud Stephanie Erickson once again for pulling me into one of her worlds and hooking me again. **This honest review was given in exchange for an ARC.**
I really enjoyed all three books. The characters are well developed and believable. The plot is interesting and interesting. However, -and here are major spoilers for the third book, so don't read ahead of you don't want to be spoiled- *****SPOILERS***** I would have loved more details about life on the ships. More about the other ships. More background on Kingsley and on his fate after the landing, did he figure as a savior or did he just get a quiet freedom? What about the islanders after the landing? I guess this just reflects his much I enjoyed it, because I keep wanting more.
I have loved everything this author has written, but I think this trilogy is my absolute favorite! The characters draw you in and keep their hold...and the whole concept is eerily both exciting and frightening.
A cautionary tale, to be sure!
Ms. Erickson is an amazing author...and even that statement doesn't touch the way her books have affected me!
The conclusion to the Dead Room trilogy is awesome! It was very interesting to read, and I had a hard time putting it down. I truly found myself guessing the outcome until the very end of the book. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who is interested in science fiction and post-apocalyptic writing. The plot was very well written, and the characters were well-developed. Ms. Erickson has done an outstanding job once again!
Ms. Erickson has raised the bar in Fantasy. She showed a unique format that I haven’t experienced in the hundreds of Fantasies I’ve read. The whole trilogy was one of the best books I’ve read, and this 3rd book had a very satisfying ending. At first, I thought book 3 would be wrapped up quickly and neatly, but the author still had some surprises up her sleeve. I have enjoyed how this series expanded my imagination, which is why I love Fantasy. And I will definitely read more by this author.
This was a really good wrap up to end the trilogy. I really enjoyed the whole series! Each book introduced new characters to alternate the pic with, and they were all engaging from the moment you meet them.
I titled the review this way so as not to reveal anything of the story content of book 3. Suffice to say if you enjoyed book 1 and 2 you will enjoy book 3. Same great writing style and same great story line.
The first book was a page-turner. The second was good but not great. This book feels like it was rushed to print. The characters are one-dimensional, plot jumpy, and story line very predictable. It’s even wrapped up with a nice little bow. Ugh. I feel used.
Not often I can find a book that I can read for me than 5 minutes at a time. However the plot, pacing and overall story of all three of these books were excellent. Well written characters from the start. Read the last book in one sitting.
Wow! That's all I can say. This last book to the series just immediately sucks you in and the action doesn't stop. I couldn't wait to see what happened next and how all of our characters would finally come together. Would the human race survive on the mainland? You'll have to read to find out. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Overall, the series comes to an OK conclusion, but there didn't ever seem to be any tension to the plot, despite the situation. I give this series a resounding "meh".
This is the final book in The Dead Room Trilogy and I have to say I think it was my favorite one. The first book was a bit confusing in how it started for me and progressed from there. The 2nd book was more of a back and forth from 2 different times so you could better understand what happened to the world. This last book showed a different view in the beginning and worked from there but included the characters you had gotten close to in the 2 prior books. I enjoyed this story so much more for some reason and I really had trouble putting this book down. I was just wanting to see how it all turned out. I loved this book and have to say that Stephanie really knocked this one out of the park!! I would highly recommend this book, this series.
The storyline stays with you even when you are going through your normal everyday work or daily routine. I felt I could zone into the post apocalyptic world and be existing there with the characters simultaneously. Am so disappointed my adventures with them are over!
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed an ARC I received from the author*
I've followed this trilogy and while it's sad to see it end, I thought it was another great ride back to Earth. I love this story for a few reasons: some characters have come and gone and others have stuck around long enough to see the new world. I liked the consistency in the author's writing, she has a very particular style that can't be treated as a fast read. I tried it once with her other books once and had to force myself to slow down and take it all in. Once you're in that mind set, the whole thing is really great.
The plot is pretty simple but it's the suspenseful adventure that sells it. I liked what I read and was satisfied til the end of the epilogue. Definitely check it out if you like dystopian sci-fi fantasy with a pinch of heart and adventure.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. Alive is Stephanie Erickson's Final installment of the Dead Room Trilogy. It picks up where Dead World left off but from a different vantage point. A vantage point high above the clouds. We finally learn of, and get to know, some of the other survivors. Ones who have lived vastly different lives for the past 300 years from our beloved characters on the island. The ticking clock becomes a race against time to save both groups as their fate rests on someone finding a solution to rid the dead planet of the bots. This book was an enjoyable read, but don't start with this one. Reading them in order is a must. I recommend it to the young and old fans of the dystopian genre. The characters are like-able and the plot wasn't overburdened with excessive "tech mumbo jumbo".
Third and final installment of the Dead Room Trilogy - as whole the series was well done. But with this book I felt like I was missing something. The build up of the coming together of the people on land and in the air was done really well. The struggles they go through and how they overcome them was very well written and very believable. But I felt that once it all really happened, once they landed and got everyone together I was left at a bit of a loss. I was left wanting more - needed more of an explanation. The connection between Mason and Vega was wonderfully done, you catch glimpses of it here and there, you get a good feel for them for sure. As a whole the series is most definitely worth the read!!!!
