Was a really well put together book, very interesting!! Would have liked a bit more information regarding the actual actors experiences that went into making the films, compared to just the overview. Also not 100% sure on some facts that were used...a bit of speculation, but all in all a good read & keep sake for my book shelf
This book was so amazing. There is so much information it is unbelievable. Really enjoy going through it & looking up the different actors. I won this book through Goodreads.
LOVE this book! It's like visiting old (and new) friends in a bajillion movies, all in one place. The format is cool, with bio, highlighted films, awards, box office returns, and even a color-coded timeline for each actor. I could nit-pick about Ben Gazzara's picture instead of John Cassavetes (!), the occasional typo, the debatable decisions of which stars get one page, two pages, or the additional two-page photo spread, not to mention the glaring omission of Olivia de Havilland, Charles Boyer, Loretta Young and Sally Field (we like her, we really like her!). But I truly enjoyed the well-written summaries (by 24 different contributors), and the countless photos, quotes and backstories of many of my favorite stars. Well done!
It’s an actors’ encyclopedia. It’s good to go to when watching an old movie and you want to know some background about the actor or actress. Of corse you could just google them too but this probably has different information than their wikipedia pages.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and appreciate all the hard work that went into creating it and although the book contains many important and iconic movie stars, I struggled to find one very well-known and highly talented actress and that is, Sally Field. She was The Flying Nun. She was Norma Rae. She played the mother of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. She even played Spiderman’s Aunt. She deserves so much more recognition and I was very disappointed to learn that she is not in this book that I recently purchased. I may just have to return it now (but let’s be honest I probably won’t).
