A teenager wakes up in a fantasy game with three other players she's never met before. She's reluctant to participate until she learns it's her only way out of this strange virtual world. Can she learn how to play in time to help her team?
Drake, Raelyn Realm of Mystics (Level Up series), 120 pages. Darby Creek (Lerner), 2017. $8. Content: G (some mild danger).
A teenaged girl wakes up. In front of her is the Game Hunter, introducing her into an immersive virtual reality game, Realm of Mystics. She doesn’t remember agreeing to any such thing, but she meets her other three companions and they embark on a journey. Each must face their deepest fear if they want to survive.
Level Up is one of Darby Creek’s new Hi/Lo series. Darby Creek does these so well. If you have Hi/Lo students who loves video gaming (who doesn’t), grab this entire series.
The plot sounded good, but when I started reading I found that the characters cliche and the story not very interesting. There are so many stories that do this plot better and I don’t recommend reading it. I don’t know if the other books in the series are better but I’d not reading them anything soon. It is a very easy read though.
