The first time I took my three-year-old son to the dentist, he refused to open his mouth. So this time, a few weeks before his dentist appointment, we got the book "Max goes to the Dentist." This is a great book! In the book, Max is such a happy kid, and he is so proud of his smile and happy to be at the dentist. The book shows Max sitting in the chair, having a napkin put on him, and getting his teeth examined with different dentist tools. And the whole time he is smiling and happy.
Well, today we took my son to the dentist and he did great! Every time the dentist was about to do something we opened the book "Max goes to the Dentist" to a page showing Max doing the same thing. My son was quite happy to comply.
Story: Describes Max brushing his teeth and a four-step dental appointment.
Reading level: Beginner, but does not include many high-frequency words
Illustrations: Great depiction of what happens in the dental chair: easy to understand, shows dental tools, shows the big chair.
Review: This is exactly how I feel a dentist appointment should be described to a 2-3 year old. Simple dialogue and pictures, "The dentist puts a paper napkin on Max," for example, show your child exactly what to expect during the dental visit.
