Sundari Venkatraman is an Indie Author who has 76 self-published books to her credit. These books have consistently featured in the Top 100 Bestseller Lists on Amazon India, Amazon USA, Amazon UK, Amazon Canada and Amazon Australia in both romance as well as Asian Drama categories. Her latest hot romances have all been on #1 Bestseller slot in Amazon India for over a month.
These days, the author is independently publishing her novels in paperback format under her banner Flaming Sun, printed and distributed by Notion Press.
Even as a child, Sundari absolutely loved the ‘lived happily ever after’ syndrome and she grew up on a steady diet of fairy tales, Phantom comics and Mandrake comics. It was always about good triumphing over evil and a happy ending after the protagonists surmounted all unexpected obstacles.
Once she entered her teens, Sundari switched her loyalties from fairy tales to Mills & Boon. While she loved reading both of these, she kept visualising what would have happened if there were similar situations happening in India; to local heroes and heroines. And of course, the joy of vanquishing the ubiquitous evil villains! Her imagination soared and she happily ensconced herself in a rosy romantic cocoon for many years.
Then came the writing—a true bolt from the blue! And Sundari Venkatraman has never looked back.

His Drunken Wife is the ninth book authored by Sundari Venkatraman and is the Book#2 in the 5-novella series Marriages Made in India.

The characters of this book were part of Sundari’s earlier novella, The Runaway Bridegroom. In His Drunken Wife, Mr. Perfect Abhimanyu falls in love with Shikha , the rebel. It’s love at first sight for him while for Shikha, Abhimanyu doesn’t figure on her list anywhere.

When Shikha gets to know that Abhimanyu is rich enough for her, she accepts his marriage proposal. But it’s all one sided love. And it’s all from Abhimanyu’s side while Shikha continues to act rash and randy. She is addicted to alcohol and continues to drink unabashedly even on their weeding party.

And then Abhimanyu sets out on a honeymoon to Thailand with his drunken wife...

I was amazed to read His Drunken Wife for this book is so different from Sundari’s regular stories. The story did not have the regular sweet, strong and virtuous heroine. Shikha, the main protagonist is bold, quick-tempered, headstrong and has all the traits that made me dislike her. It took me a while to warm up to her. I wondered what made the charming, rich and intelligent Abhimanyu to marry her. But when love strikes someone like lightning, so powerful and intense it can’t be ignored. As bedfellows go, there couldn't be a less compatible pair, but they had some amazing sizzling chemistry going on between them.

I liked how the characters developed as the story progresses. Shikha’s devil-may-care attitude and alcoholism is understandable once her past is known. The husband who cooks for his wife and who is patient and understanding too, ooh, it’s not at all difficult to fall in love with Abhimanyu. The writing is crisp and lean as always. The pace of the story is fast which makes His Drunken Wife a quick read.

Check out His Drunken Wife for a quick sizzling read.

"His Drunken Wife" is the second book in the 5-novella series "Marriages Made in India", and I liked it enough to check out the other books too.

This is the author’s first try at writing a novella that is decidedly hotter than her contemporary romance novels. Regarding its style, it reminded me a little of her romantic suspense novel "An Autograph for Anjali", mostly due to its brevity, its succinct language and its daring foray into an area not too many Indian romance novelists touch.

I had already caught glimpses of Shikha and Abhimanyu in Sundari Venkatraman’s novel "The Runaway Bridegroom", so they felt nicely familiar. But I think that even if you haven’t ‘met’ them before, you’re pulled right into their lives and will find them authentic and entertaining. Hot-headed, red-blooded Shikha is a real whirlwind that quiet, suave yet confident Abhi sets out to tame. It isn’t an easy feat, but his love for her helps both of them. I found it interesting to see the heroine and not the hero deal with an addiction for a change. The reasons for her alcohol problems are revealed later in the book and make the story more credible. As for Abhi, he makes a gorgeous hero, and I can see why these two match so well.

This is a novella, so get ready for a very short but also very satisfying ride (pardon the pun). There’s a lot of steam and sexiness going on, but nicely woven into a well-constructed plot. If you’re looking for a quick fix that can be read in one go and is like a tasty, very spicy bite that makes you long for a full meal of Indian temperament and temptation, then this is the right choice. I’m sure I’ll enjoy Book 1 (Her Smitten Husband) too.

His Drunken Wife by Sundari Venkatraman

Shikha, the bold and beautiful girl with an only mission to marry a rich, and a handsome guy enter the office of RS Software seeking a job as a secretary. She thoroughly does a background check on her boss Ranveer who is single, handsome, and filthy rich. Unfortunately, her plan did not hit and settles with the other guy Abhimanyu who has an instant liking towards her from the first day. Initially, she found Abhimanyu as a nerd but her thoughts changed slowly and they got locked in the holy matrimony.

Parallelly the story of Ranveer and Chanda is appended to the main characters. They were married during their childhood, and destiny drew them together to the same office, rekindling their old memories and igniting the spark of love. Later, Ranveer and Chanda got married again.

The author has equally given importance to both the characters Shikha and Abhimanyu and my heart goes for Abhimanyu. He is mature, smart, charming, handsome & systematic - a perfect husband material. His only concern is her health since she is addicted. He was always on his toes to keep her busy and engaged to wave off the urge to drink and smoke. Taking her to a Rehab after their honeymoon induced a turning point to the story reflecting the intensity for his love and concern for Shikha, who was ignorant of his good heart.
Will Shikha acknowledge his love and undergo her treatment in the rehab? What was her behavior rude? Well! You have to read the book to know yourself.
The author Sundari Venkataraman has splendidly expressed the sizzling chemistry between them laced with hot romance. The story covers elements of love, friendship, relationship, and alcoholism. The writing is simple and easy to understand. Being less than 200 pages it is a quick read. The cover and the title of the book are attractive and apt for the content. The character development from a badass girl to a mature alcohol-free Shikha is inspiring.
Overall, a good read.

A bride who drinks herself into a stupor at her wedding reception when the bridegroom is everything she has wanted in a husband, rich, rich and rich. It makes for an interesting story. As the Maggi ketchup ad says, “It’s different!”

‘His Drunken Wife’ is the second novella in the ‘Marriages Made in India’ series by Sundari Venkatraman. Now, the reasons I wanted to read it in the first place were:

It was part of the “Marriages made in India” series.
I love the way Sundari writes the love scenes.
Her characters come alive.

Both Shikha and Abhimanyu are very strong characters, more complex than any of the characters I’ve encountered in any of Sundari’s previous books. They have layers which are revealed as the story unfolds. This is something pretty difficult to do in a novella, given its length, but Sundari has managed to do it.

A heroine who loves her drinks and is unabashedly sexual, Shikha lives life on her own terms, refusing to let society dictate how she should behave.

A hero who feeds you! My kind of hero! Abhimanu loves Shikha for who she is yet doesn’t allow his personal space to be trampled upon. Like when he tells her that she can have her smoke just not in his house because his mother had died of cancer as a result of passive smoking. So often we give in to the people we love just because we don’t want to hurt them or because we are afraid that they will withhold their affection from us.

Even when Shikha is mad enough to keep him at length, he continues loving her with a love that shows no signs of martyrdom. That was what made the story really refreshing.

The trip to Bangkok was an added treat. It brought the place vividly alive. Sundari has a knack for description without it getting too boring. I was transported to my Mills & Boons reading days when I learnt all about Greece and Rome from the holidays the heroines took there.

All in all a quick, enjoyable read!

His Drunken Wife is the second book of Marriages Made in India series, the first one being The Smitten Husband. While Smitten Husband was about a typical arranged marriage in India and on how love blossoms in the hearts of the couple, His Drunken Wife is more bold and dramatic. You cannot find a nice and sweet heroine here, for Shikha is sizzling hot.
Shikha is an alcohol addict, hot-headed and skittish. She is appalled when the staid and boring Abhimanyu proposes her for marriage but is amazed when she finds out that he is indeed affluent. She accepts his proposal and moves in to his posh penthouse. It doesn’t take much time for Shikha to find Abhimanyu attractive and handsome. She is pulled into his riveting charisma but defies the attraction and goes about with what she is good at – drinking crazy. How will Abhimanyu put up with Shikha’s alcohol addiction? Will he be able to help her out?
As Abhimanyu plans for a honeymoon to Thailand with his drunken wife, the readers are in for a sweltering ride.
I was put off by Shikha from the very beginning but instantly warmed up to our confident and charming hero Abhimanyu. These two are poles apart. But as the say, opposites attract and that spices up the story. When you find out the reasons for her alcoholism, the story feels plausible. This novella is different from the author’s other works especially since the heat scale hits a high.
The language and writing is awesome s always and I liked the story.

Do I Recommend? Yup- For it is like biting into red hot chilli peppers!

The badass Shikha is startled when the nerdy Abhimanyu proposes marriage. She loves... herself, and Abhimanyu doesn't figure on her list anywhere. For Abhimanyu, however, it was love at first sight when Shikha walked into RS Software, where the two of them work.

When Abhimanyu shows her that he just might be rich enough for her, a pleasantly surprised Shikha accepts his marriage proposal and moves into his swanky apartment.

But it looks like the love is all from only Abhi’s side as Shikha continues to drink herself crazy. Yeah, even at their wedding party.

And then Abhi sets out on a honeymoon to Thailand with his drunken wife...

This is all about- ‘through thick and thin true love endures (always)’.
If anyone could have pulled a female character with drinking problem, smoking issues and an obsession to marry wealth successfully as a protagonist in a romance it is Sundari Venkatraman.
More than the reader in me, the writer in me wanted to see how she did that. But soon the reader in me kicked in. It is not the usual fairytale kind but more an inspirational one.
The patience and strength of Abhimanyu is just rock solid as he stands by Shikha. This romance is not just about a great looking hunk, beautiful lady and love but beyond that, ‘an inspirational romance’ would be the right word.

Sundari Venkatraman is one of the most prolific authors of Indian romance novels and novellas. This one is part of a series called Marriages Made in India and is a quick read. In a departure from her style, this time Sundari has made the book much hotter. Shikha as the addicted-to-alcohol protagonist is not your regular goody-goody heroine and it took me a while to warm up to her. But Abhimanyu is a hero to die for. I enjoyed the read and give it 3.5 stars.

The story revolves around Abhimanyu and Shikha, characters who we get a brief glimpse of in Sundari’s previous novel. Opposite poles Abhimanyu and Shikha are bound together in a marriage. What is merely an association of convenience for Shikha, is a bond of love for Abhi. He is perfection personified and she’s your wayward girl. The story traces how their paths come together and how Abhi gives her unconditional love and support, helping her overcome her fears and addiction, in spite of her couldn’t-care-less-attitude towards him and the marriage. What’s troubling Shikha? Why can she not bring herself to trust Abhi? How does Abhi manage to win her over? You will have to read the book to know more.

What I liked:
The story is very different from the fairy tale romances that Sundari is known to weave. As the title of the book implies, it touches upon the important aspect of addiction and how it can consume someone’s life completely. It also talks about how unconditional love is very important to help a loved one cope with addictions such as alcoholism. Abhimanyu as the endearing and patient husband is adorable and Shikha as the brash, drunken wife manages to elicit our empathy once we know why she is in such a miserable place.

What I would have liked:
I would have liked to know Abhi a little more in terms of why he is so obsessed with Shikha in spite of her not reciprocating his feelings, like what went into making Abhi the soft, understanding person that he is, his emotions when he is constantly rejected by her, etc. I would also have liked Abhi to have some flaws because it is very rare that someone can be so perfect.

Final words:
This book is sizzling hot in terms of the number of steamy scenes it has. The intimate scenes between the couple are vivid and sensuously described. In fact, I think this book is a notch higher in sensuality as compared to Sundari’s other books. Perfect for cozying up in the winters, His Drunken Wife, is a fast paced read. It’s a book that is in sync with the times because there are a lot of women who have unwittingly or willingly become victims of addictions and substance abuse even in a supposedly conservative country like India.
If you are looking for a quick, romantic read, this book is for you.

I have finished yet another book by my Favourite Author friend Sundari Venkatraman. Its totally different and hotter than any of the books I have read by her ;)
Dont believe it? The Cover will only make your eyes bulge out :D

Shikha, Sundari Venkatraman's female protogonist who is very very different from her usual strong-superwoman-hidden-in-nextdoor-type-girls in His Drunken Wife.
His Drunken Wife is 2nd book from the 5novella series of Marriages Made in India. If the first one was short & hot, you wont believe the hotness of this one :)

Truly enthralling

This was my first novel of Sundari and loved it right from the first chapter.
The little corporate and Thailand portions, along with the de-addiction was perfectly explained. The sad childhood and its repercussions on a young girl, a loving husband who wants to help cure her, etc, seems a plot for a movie.
Great story Sundari. You got a fan for life
Now off to reading all the remaining novels. Keep it going.

Shikha's character was not evolved well for the reader to sympathize with her past thus, finding her very arrogant and disconnected even after she got rid of her habit. There were some moments in the story that were not well addressed thus not giving justice to her work scenario. It seemed the author was in a hurry to resolve things and move further. Overall a light breezy read.

His Drunken Wife by Sundari Venkatraman is her second novel in the series of Marriages Made in India. This is a novella that has spice, sensuality, love and loads of drama. This book can be surely converted into a movie.

Talking about the cover of the book, it looks fantastic as it has a couple who are in intense mode. The cover looks like as if we are going to read an erotica but it has something different in stored for us. The passionate picture surely has a unique story to convey.

The title His Drunken Wife is a new beginning. Mostly in country like India, alcohol is acceptable for men but when it comes to women, they are often judged by this. Drinking is a choice but when it becomes an addiction its hard to get over it, be it for man or woman. This title surely gives us a different picture but we don't judge the lady.

The story is about Shikha and Abhimanyu who share a passionate relationship. Shikha has a mysterious past whereas Abhimanyu is like an open book. The card begin to uncover when Abhimanyu and Shikha gets married. A new innings of love, passion, care begins in their life. The plot construction is apt and it binds us to the end.

The author has worked on limited range of characters and all the characters are given much importance. Shikha is a complicated character who is struggling with her inner demons and a past which makes her an alcoholic. She is highly ambitious and wants to marry a rich man like Abhimanyu and when Abhimanyu proposes her, she willing says Yes to him.

Abhimanyu is madly in love with Shikha and can do anything to keep her happy. The way he looks after her after the marriage and handle her anger is appreciable. He heals her heart and pain.

The style of writing is simple. The thrid person narrative with impersonal descriptive pattern makes it beautiful. Further we find some witty sentences that are awestruck. It is an easy read and one doesn't mind it being in an ebook format.

BOOK REVIEW:
🏬👨‍💼💻 HIS DRUNKEN WIFE 👰‍♀🏖🍻

SYNOPSIS:
Shikha Khatri, a 31 year old alcoholic though a hard-working young woman, but has aspirations of marrying a rich husband for a comfortable life. Brash, loud and obnoxious, she considers everyone bellow her and targets her boss the hot shot Ranveer Singh to be her prospective target for a husband. But she catches the eyes of the calm but smart and "nerdy and not hot" (Shikha's words, not mine) Abhimanyu Mehra the V.P. and 2nd in command of her company. Though initially skeptical about him, she somehow accepts his proposal. But will it be possible for the polar opposite couple to find their until death do us apart kinda love....

MY REVIEW:
Abhimanyu Mehra is "THE IDEAL FICTIONAL GUY" for all the book girlies out there... He handles and is able to calm down Shikha through all her tender tantrums without any word. A man of class with a God level patience for his girl and spoils Shikha rotten. But he also knows what is good for his lady and how to get it down even if it means facing her wrath. On the other hand, Shikha's childhood trauma has left her to be very bitter, spiteful, and cynical to everyone. But seeing the selfless love of Abhimanyu, Shikha slowly but gradually goes through a change of heart.
This can also be called a #reversesunshineandgrumpy tale. Abhimanyu is finally able to tame the beast in Shikha. Every girl deserves a man like Abhimanyu Mehra. Though it was a nice tale from the hero part but sometimes Shikha felt unbearable and annoying to the core, and Abhimanyu's patience is too much sometimes. @sundarivenkatraman never fails to impress with her refreshing take on life.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading His Drunken Wife😍 especially Shikha's crass behaviour, her tantrums, sneering, snide remarks, overly confident and carefree attitude yet secretly craving love, care and attention.

Despite the unfriendly front she puts up Shikha has a certain charm that's endearing. Abhimanyu is quick to notice it and despite all her drunken meanness strongly directed at him, he's keen on pursuing her and making it work till the very end.

An entertaining read where Shikha who's initially the hunter on a lookout to marry the rich CEO ends up being the hunted by the CEO'S suave second in command.

The way Abhi deals with Shikha's alcohol addiction, flaring temper and smoking tantrums with patience and love is admiring to read.

A fun light hearted workplace boss secretary romance that's delightful to read.

Thank you Sundari Venkatraman for a copy of this lovely book.

His Drunken Wife by Sundari Venkatraman is a good read book .This story is based out of the characters from the book called ‘The Runaway Bridegroom’.By now you all must be aware of sundari′s writings . The plot of this story is like all other romantic stories .

The lead characters are always have conflicting emotions contrary to their true nature Here Sundari has created a female beast and a somber male human being who tries to tame her .

Shikha and Abhi are gracefully penned by her .All I can say about this book “Its one time good read ”.

The pace of the book is normal .

Overall the book is recommended read .

I love Abhi cooking for his wife.

The cover of book could have been beautified with brighter colors ..and hence

Good Read

It is a good read with interesting protagonists. I liked how different the heroine character is from the regular sweet, kind heroines. The narration of the transformation of a rude, attention seeking heroine to a calm, confident person is well portrayed.

I rated 4 because the first few chapters are no different from the first book in the series and I felt there could have been more connection to the characters. Other than that, I enjoyed the story plot which was engaging and different.

Likes:
- Love at first sight
- Bitchy heroine
- Supporting hero
- Romance

A short novella which tries to be bold and tackle important topics but largely falters. Sikha, my favourite character from The Runaway Bridegroom gets her happily-ever-after with Vice President / Executive Assistant / Man-whose-job-I-still-can't-describe Abhi. Sikha is supposed to be a bad-ass woman with absolutely no volume control as the author always describes her a screaming, screeching etc. Also she may be an alcoholic but love can fix all of that. So yay.

Abhi has always loved Sikha (after knowing her for 3 months) and is determined to marry her and help her get over her drinking problem. That is basically the entire plot of the novel. They have lots of sex, get married and overcome her "problem".

Tbh, I did like the copious amount of sex they had pre-marriage. Such a change from the previous book. It was meant to be “modern” – with all the connotations that causes amongst the Indian milieu but I liked it. The chapter are too short for the sex to be as graphic or frankly as moving as in other romance novels but it takes up quite a bit of time here. In fact, it is often used as a distracting from alcohol and nicotine craving. Wonder if that works in real life?

Abhi think Sikha is "perfect for [him] the way she is" – except for her drinking, her smoking, her shouting, work ethic and her eating habits (as in she needs to eat more). Just perfect! When he said this I burst out laughing as every sentence in the previous chapters was about trying / tricking her into changing something - or "taming" / "handling" her.

At least the book acknowledges that Sikha has a drinking problem but the hubby has to trick her into rehab. That’s a no-no but then the whole depiction of alcoholism in the book leaves much to be desired here. I gave it a pass as the author has probably no experience with it and the depiction here is very consistent with how addition is portrayed on other popular Indian media when it concerns women. So either the author was inspirited or someone is glossing over a whole lot of problems in India.

As an example, Abhi had no problem giving her wine or beer even though he think she has an addiction. He made it so that only glass of champagne was served on their honeymoon flight. Moderation is not a choice in this disease but what the heck when the book says that “It looked like Sikha’s issues were all psychological and her cure was imminent if her mind was set at rest”

I rolled my eyes but then I was not expecting great shakes here. The book is short enough and I was smiling at parts so I gave it an "ok" rating in the end.

"They were the perfect yin and yang— he was cool and collected while she was brash and loud. "

The above sentence sums up the story in a neat line. While Shikha comes across as brash and vibrant, it's Abhimanyu's quiet demeanor which will leave a mark on the readers. This short read is a perfect add to Ms. Venkatraman's series aptly termed as Marriages Made in India. Going with this title, this book also shows one very common thing which was present in all the stories of Ms. Venkatraman. Marriages are forever.

A romantic notion as the cynic in me would shout out. But the romantic in me loves this. And I think that is the main base of Ms. Venkatraman's novels. They portray the innocent you. You remember the time before the jaded you took over your personality. Shikha is not a perfect character by any chance. But her road to redemption makes her a memorable character. I liked her. Just because she is a selfish, underdeveloped and brash. Add drunkenness to that. Just like an imperfect me.

So if a heroine of a romance comes with all the taboos, finds love and happiness, how can you not love this book?

The Hot Perfect Scenes:

Is Ms. Venkatraman getting hotter or is the Arizona heat getting to me? If you don't like sexual content- don't read this book. If you are looking for a life changing experience - don't touch this book. If you are looking to learn something new (besides an error free grammar and some really hot scenes) run away from this book. No, I seriously mean it. This genre is called the HOT ROMANCE and not many will be able to take it.

But just like her other books, if it's just a mug of coffee, a few drops of rain outsides and a feeling called innocent love, that you want to embrace one afternoon, this book is a perfect read.

I never look for literature when I read Ms. Venkatraman's books. I look for love and that even with my own shortcomings, I am ok. Every imperfect person can be loved and find their rainbow - that is what Ms. Venkatraman's stories are for you.

Would I recommend it?

To those who love romance, just for the sheer love of Romance, Read it.. those who are looking for intellectuality, to grow as a person and learn and igniting their philosophical cells - stay away.

The Drunken Wife is an homage to love that stands by when the going gets tough. It is the love that fights for its love. The book is fast, fun and full of a lot of fireworks! Sundari has kept the pace of the first book in the series and book 2 has all the elements of a good read and it a quick read as well.

Smart, sexy and setting hearts aflutter, Shikha and Abhimanyu left me a happy reader. The book has romance as well as substance – a trademark of Sundari who always manages to mesh common sense, kindness, wisdom, romance and love into yet another best seller.

Shikha is bit money minded, self-centered woman, in fact initially she was on the verge of being rude and selfish. I wondered how she could be the heroine? But love is blind and she cleaned up pretty neatly! It is when we see her through the eyes of Abhimanyu that we realise the simple, insecure girl hidden behind the gruff facade.

I loved the premise of the book, the need that Abhimanyu feels for his wife and how he goes about solving her problem, one that she does not even realise she has. Her husband not only loves her but also ensures that she is her best. Insolent at times she tries to drive him away but then true stays and fights for togetherness.

From a money minded selfish woman, she is transformed into a much-loved woman – that is the power of love. Like the ideal man, Abhimanyu is not only hot, handsome, rich, and kind he is cool as well. Sure of his love and his girl he pulls out all the stops to ensure his love is valued.

The Drunken Wife is another book in a series that will leave you eager to read the next one. I know I am off to pick the next one since all 5 books are on top of the charts.
