From the appealing cover to the movie tie-in, I was prepared to love this book...sadly, I didn't. It was just...ordinary, bland. I kept wanting "more", I don't know what "more" I wanted, but when I was done with the book I didn't feel I ever got "more". I found Juliette annoying - she was crazy as a loon over the house (If I had been Roman, I would have run fast and far from that). Then there's her "compassion" - I call it pushy and nosy, she was constantly butting in where she didn't belong - seriously, she had no personal boundaries! As for Roman, he was OK - he had walls no one could scale, but he was OK with that, not to mention that he's got one foot out the door anyway. I didn't see why he even returned to this town where he had such a bad childhood except for his grandfather, but he had no trouble leaving him for the Marine Corps for thirteen years. I guess what I'm saying is that the characters and storyline didn't work for me in this book. I'm sure I will be in the minority as far as my review because Barbara Freethy is a popular author...and I do like many of her other books and would recommend her as an author, just not this one.
