Nikki Turner, the Princess of Hip Hop Fiction, took readers by story with her #1 best-selling debut novel, A Hustler’s Wife , then took them to new heights with her sophomore novel, A Project Chick . Now, with the help of her home girl Chunichi, and right hand man Roy Glenn, she’s about to take street fiction to a place it’s never been before, as they introduce Unique, Nina, and Anyeh, three of the baddest girls from the hood you ever want to meet.

For Unique, life is good until her dope-dealing boyfriend, Took, is arrested and winds up in jail. Now she’s broke as a joke; trying to put every petty hustle into play to chase hard times away from the door. With an empty refrigerator, a stack of bills pilling up, a tenth grade education, a big butt and a smile, it doesn’t take long for her to learn to pull the wool over the eyes of any fool who’s blinded by her good looks. She’s sure that one day some guy’s slip-up will be her ultimate come-up, and her days of nickel and dime swindles will be a thing of the past. Unique knows that every scandalous chick has her day, but doesn’t realize that her day will come too!

If luck were money, Nina Thomas would be one broke sister. After taking a stab at stripping, she finds herself once again on the wrong end of a bad choice. Now she’s on trial for murder, and the consequences of spending too much time with the wrong folks might just end up costing her life.

Anyeh is out for revenge, and with the help of a secret friend on the other end of her cell phone, known only as “my baby,” she just might get what she wants. She’s after Diablo, the most well-known hustler in Virginia. He’s one careful brother; but in the end, his feelings for Anyeh might just be his undoing.

After Nikki Turner read The Coldest Winter Ever by Sistah Souljah she was dismayed that there weren't other books like it. "I wanted to write the kinds of books I wanted to read," said the bestselling author, whose 2002 debut novel, A Hustler's Wife, would go on to sell more than a few 100,000 copies.
While Nikki Turner's first two novels were published by a small publishing house in the Midwest, in 2004 she signed a 2-book deal with One World, an imprint of Ballantine Books, which is part of The Random House Publishing Group. After publishing the first book under that deal, The Glamorous Life in 2005 as well as a short story collection edited by Nikki, Street Chronicles: Tales from da Hood, One World quickly signed Nikki up for three more Nikki Turner Original novels and negotiated a deal with her for her own book line, Nikki Turner Presents. "I want to give new authors the same kind of opportunity I was given," said Nikki. "I want to produce authors who will be household names."

The last short story was the best, the others were mediocre for me but nonetheless interesting.

Girls From Da Hood

I give this book 3 1/2 stars. It's a step up from okay (3 stars) but not quite I like it material (4 stars). Don't know what I was expecting, but maybe something a little more based on their previous work.

Nikki Turner - Unique is the stereotypical drug dealer's girlfriend. All she does is shop and spend his money. When her boyfriend Took has to do a bid, Unique is up the creek without a paddle. Does she get a job and try to better herself? No, of course not! It's on to the next man or next hustle. On her way up, or down depending on how you look at it, she's made her share of enemies. And like every dog, she has her day. Nikki does a good job portraying a "certified hood rat."

Roy Glenn - Nina Thomas is a recent college graduate who puts her life on hold once she rekindles a relationship with her first boyfriend Lorenzo after five years.. Things are good, but as always that doesn't last. Nina finds herself in a position where she needs to make some serious decisions - decisions that she may have to suffer the consequences for. This was my favorite of the three. I liked the tie-in of his previous novel Is It A Crime.

Chunichi - Anyeh has a plan. A plan to bring down the great Diablo James using her feminine wiles. But she never planned to fall for him herself. And how will this affect her plan? This was my least favorite of the three. It was all over with the twists, turns and inconsistencies. There's a little bit of everything - from the mysterious "my baby," an anonymous person Anyeh gives updates of her progress with Diablo, to lesbian lovers, to a jealous sister, to an addicted mother, to an African potion.

Not a bad book, but by no means the greatest. Could have been better. I recommend it on the strength of the authors.

Readers get a bonus with a short story by Carl Weber entitled He Makes Love Like A Woman.

In story one: Unique’s boo is in jail, turning her ratchet glam life upside-down, now having to rely on food stamp scams to pay her phone bill to hear from his angry ass. Strolla is her roommate w/ gonorrhea, who pulls classic Rent-a-Center swindles and lures men who short her but she’s dope because she’ll never be outdone. She stuffs her bag with his luxury towels, fancy soaps, and redresses in his live-in sister’s designer duds: hilarious. Between johns, she works McD’s just to swipe from the register, where she runs into her enemy, a gum-smacking ghetto Karen. She gets more than she deserves, honestly.

Strolla and Unique come to realize their men ain’t sh!t, and run some smart lil hustles like selling Facebook meals and robbing corpses. I love how informative this is in crimes in you can commit but sometimes it feels like a list of such masqueraded as a plot. LMAO later when Brianna has a mental breakdown over finding sh!t in her bed a la Amber Heard revenge. Coke-fast pace though and some generous dudes to soften the girls.

Story 2 is way less interesting with drunk mamas gossiping about pre-marriage flings. Too gushy love-making and goofy grating voices in the audiobook. Had to skip after three chs to the last story, Diablo, about drug dealing coke and H. This is okay with a gritty paranoid voice but too testosterone-filled. There is Cookie/Anya’s POV which is better though as conniving. Her voice makes me sleepy. Keisha is more normal, spunky like girls in the first story but simpler, into helping her bro, Diablo. She’s sus of Cookie taking her cut in her bro’s wealth (who wouldn’t be with that name). The writing is an ounce cringey at times, the sex talk too clinical and predictable, the insults not sounding that natural and Keisha sounding borderline lover-obsessed with her bro.

An insight into the crazy live of one of the hoods baddest female hustler. The story of fiction “Girls from Da Hood” was written by Nikki Turner, Chunichi, and Roy Glenn.
The setting of the short story written by NIkki Turner was Richmond, the streets and the ghettos where people were hitting licks to pay off the bills and debt, and where others were addicted to drugs trying to find their way to their next fix. The main characters of the story are Unique and her boyfriend Took. Took was one of the most well known and also one of the most feared guys around the streets, a true hustler. Unique definitely wasn’t loyal, stabbing those closest to her in the back, just to get a little cash.
While Took was in jail and waiting to stand trial, Unique was out spending all of his hard earned cash. After she had blown through all the money Took had saved up for them, Unique was no longer able to support herself financially. She couldn’t afford to put food in the fridge, or to pay the bills that were constantly stacking up, and she couldn’t afford to pay the phone bill. After she had gone to Took’s most trusted friends to help her out, and they refused, she had to take it upon herself to get the money. She winded up sleeping around and setting people up to rob them and getting her cash that way. Unique ended up being turned in to the police by a guy she ended up messing with, named Baby Jon’s baby mama, she was arrested and sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. But not even that stopped her, she continued her manipulative ways even behind prison walls. No remorse, regret, humiliation or shame for anything she had done.
I think this is a really good book, the kind of story where you just can’t seem to put it down cause you want to know what happens next. I think the intended audience is anyone who is into the urban, hustler way of life type stories. I think people would enjoy it because it’s so realistic, so possible to happen in real life to so many people, I think people enjoy reading about things that can really happen.

So I forced myself through this book. The stories were umm meh! I only looked at this book because Ashley Antoinette wrote books 2 and 4 but I probably won’t be reading anymore of the others. This is not for me, I tried but again it was a forced read to get through. The stories and style of writing just don’t work. 2 1/2⭐️

This book is an experience, but one worth undertaking for sheer humor. It is iconic in its cheesiness and I do not regret the less-than-half a day I spent reading it.

That girl really was something else. At first I wanted things to work for her but her hood booger ass wouldn't stop the foolery !! I'm glad Took was over her.

This book in my opinion was pretty good . I gave it 3 stars because it was kind of remedial to me ..
Unique was a little hoodrat who went around fuckingg multiple men to make ends meet after her dude got locked up .
Nina: She was accompanied by her drug dealing high school love who ended up getting locked up after killing a cop . So he convinces her to sell drugs and she thinks she has the right people around her but she ends up learning differently , she decided to fuck with other men emotions && that resulted in almost her life and another individual
Aneyah: that was probably the most interesting she owed debt to one of her old team mates & it was either her life or a great King pins .

I have to say this book was good. I loved Nikki Turner and Roy Glenn. They short stories caught my eyes and I hated that it ended way to early. But, they short stories was good. They kept my eyes glued to the book. Chunichi short story wasn't wanted I expected thought she came come better then what she did. But, over all loved Nikki Turner charater Unique that was trying to make it big while her man Took was locked up but, she end up stuffing. Roy character Nina was a alright character that became a big time drug dealer trying to live the game.

Loved it, Unique was a hot ass mess who went way too far with her shit for the sake of the dollar and I'm home she thought she got Brittany, she needed up getting got, Nina has to make some decisions and she will probably have to suffer consequences for them too, Anyeh may have bit off more than she can chew, while her intentions was to bring Diablo down but never intended to fall for him at the same time, All three authors did a good job
