Telescope Handbook and Star Atlas

Rate this book
Recent explorations of outer space by probes, satellites, and radio telescopes have greatly expanded our knowledge of the stars and planets, often with information and pictures that have exploded long-held beliefs and theories. These new data, and some striking new photographs, have been incorporated into the updated edition of The Telescope Handbook and Star Atlas .This unusually complete and convenient introduction to stargazing combines a comprehensive discussion of telescopes with a unique star atlas featuring transparent map overlays. The amateur astronomer whose telescope is from two to twelve inches in diameter will find this book an indispensable guide to both this instrument and the night sky.

I used this book (and another titled Star Names) countless nights sky-watching in Maryland suburbia in the 1970’s. I still compulsively speak aloud the seven brightest stars comprising the main part of Orion as it looms in the cold, clear sky. The only book that may have seen more use during those years was my Boy Scout Handbook (1965).
