A classic tale of unlikely friendship featuring two lovable new characters.
Every Monday, Professor Bumble and his fishy friend Beluga go swimming at the lake. One day, Otter warns them of a mysterious creature lurking in the depths— a beast that “could swallow a bear in one bite!” The ever-cautious Professor Bumble resigns himself to the safety of the shore, while bold Beluga decides to brave the water. But when Beluga’s bowl suddenly tips and he disappears into the lake, it is up to Professor Bumble to save his buddy and face the Monster of the Deep.
This charming picture book features a comic friendship that will remind readers of such odd couples as Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet or Frog and Toad, and leave them wishing for more adventures with Bumble and Beluga.
I enjoyed reading this book to Alena. I would really like to read more books about Professor Bumble. When I clicked on the author's name, I saw that more Professor Bumble books have been written but they are not in English. I hope more are translated soon!
Read as a bedtime story but ended to laughter when we returned to look at details of the horrible monster. The plot is not complicated, but with the pictures adding to the words, it was a pleasure to read.
This book tells the story of a bear an dhis best friend Beluga. Everyday they go swimming and fishing in the lake but on this particular day, Otter warned them of the monster that lived in the deep. Beluga does not listen to Otter's warning and decides to go swimming anyway while bear decided to "stay on the safe side" and sit this one out on the shore. As bear sat and watched Beluga, Beluga diappeared, immediately Bear jumped into the water and saved Beluga from the monster. They both learned a valuable lesson about listening for danger. THis would be an ideal book to read for a lesson on safety and the importance of listening.
I was drawn to this book by the cover. I love books about bears and a bear wearing swimming trunks, floaties and a snorkel was to cute to pass up. This book was originally written in German and translated in 2008 to English. The story is about Professor Bumble who takes his fish Beluga swimming in the lake every Monday until they run into Otter. What follows is a humorous story. My son just loved the twist at the end.
How hysterical this book is..a story of a bear who goes swimming with his pet fish until a fisherman tricks them into silly antics from fear. Not sure if I would share with group in case there were some faint of heart present.
This is one of those annoying books that is difficult to read because the words and sentences are cumbersome, but at least the pictures are funny. My 3 1/2 year old was attracted to this book because of the cover, but drifted away by page three. Compelling it is not.
A fun story, awesome pictures, but the plot is pretty straight-forward. The part that totally tickled my funny-bone was the goldfish swimming. In his goldfish bowl. In the lake. It made me laugh out load on every page.
A funny story about a bear and his fish going swimming in the lake only to be warned away by Otter that there's monster. (But could it be Otter just has sour grapes because the ruined his fishing by wanting to swim?)
