Story of a boy who spends the summer with his grandmother at the beach. Wish when I was younger that I had a similar place . There is a part where the boy goes out to the garage and discovers a green glass fishing ball. When I lived in Japan, we would find these on the beach. I brought many home that I still need to do something, perhaps hang them on the porch. This books brings back many memories of that time. Each summer for the past 12 years, I have been spending a week at the Outer Banks with my friends. Every time we cross the bridge, all the tension just evaporates and I am so relaxed while there. Plan on going for many years to come.

Certainly a fantastic story to share with young children, but I picked it up to look at the amazing watercolor pictures. At first glance the pictures appear very simple, but look closer and you will see amazing pattern and detail. Of course one of my favorite pages has a quilt design. I'm reading an adult non-fiction book with interviews of some outstanding children's book illustrators and it's helping me appreciate the artistic talent these people possess.

This is one of those children’s books that sticks with you over the years. Me and my sister were reminiscing on vacation about it and realized it was a shared memory. Great Children’s Book
